  • my boyfriend just bought me tickets for my 20th birthday to go and see this in London performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, along with Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no. 2. Best present ever :)

  • I heard this live form the eroica esemble in memphis last night and I sat directly behind the double basses and brass section. It was so powerful that it shook my seat and vibrated my whole body! I was stunned and impressed

  • i love this piece! :)))))

  • Golliwogg says: "This is the only one of Brahms' symphonies which I haven't heard. I'm listening to it now for the first time, and so far am liking it a lot."

  • The 1st theme is both an individual theme, and a transition. Brilliant!

  • is there a place i can look for the recording info on this? i.e. engineers, label, studio..

    thanks!

  • fwiw, the spot at 2:35 - letter C in the old B&H edition - has the cellos and violas in thirds, but with the cellos above the violas.

  • favoloso...

  • Viola <3 @2:35

  • @ishcorinne Sorry to say, but cellos have the melody there and they're playing at a higher register than violas :D

  • @yongrenjie No, I'm sorry to say that I have the viola part in front of my face, and happen to know that that's what instrument is playing there.

  • @ishcorinne I have the conductor's score o.o perhaps i'm wrong, lemme check

  • @ishcorinne ...and it's cellos.

  • @yongrenjie well maybe you have a different arrangement. my music came from the FOA Allstate. why would they give the violas the cello part

  • @ishcorinne haha weird! nvm doesnt matter, just have to agree that 2:35 owns

  • @yongrenjie yes it's pretty...yay Brahms =]

  • @ishcorinne Actually, the cellos have the melody. The Violas are under the cellos providing basis for the chord.

{I'm playing it in a youth orchestra with a conductor who analysis really well} And I'm a violist as well.

  • @DhAoS1020 it's good to hear from another violist after being asked 4 times in the last week what a viola is...o_O

  • @chocolateandbroadway Hyuckhyuckhyuck. That's funny. To be honest I had no clue what it was when I started. I had never heard of it before. I'm so glad I started playing.

  • 2:35 is fabulous.

  • @llyranor yeah i like that theme. quite graceful.

  • @llyranor I am playing this in my orchestra and that is my favourite part too :)

  • @llyranor cellos rock

    I love playing this part

  • So...is it just coincidence, or did you purposely line up the pictures to change at the thematic points of the piece (A theme, B theme, Exposition, Development, Recapitulation, and Coda)? If you did, that's awesome. I love it. Thanks for sharing.

  • From 3:18 to 3:31 it is just beautiful..It reminds me of something i've heard before but cant quite put my finger on it...

  • @CharliL909225

Most likely it is the theme from one of Brahm's Wiegenlied, AKA Brahm's Lulliby.

  • Oh the Man was truly a genius indeed by looking at those pictures as the music plays i can see someone that poured his Heart and Soul into every Symphony he ever did <3 soooo BEAUTIFUL ^.^ such wonderful poetic passion.

  • This is the most gorgeous orchestra recording that I have ever heard, and I have heard many.

  • Hermosa sinfonía, y en particular este movimiento una hermosa representación del paisaje idílico en que se encontraba Brahms cuando compuso esta obra.
