  • 30 pence for a comic? Christ the DC monthlies are 3 bucks now.

  • 6 people are tories

  • Perfect way to end the video lol.

  • 1:13 My number one fan 1:13 myself LOL

  • 7:07 is just pure poetry... amazingly beautiful choice of words, imagery, even rhythm.

  • brilliant documentary

  • Do you realise Alanmoorevids / Alan, that I use this docu as an anti-writers block motivational tool? People like you are the reason we are respected around the world for the RIGHT reasons rather than just how prolific we are in sport. There isn't money enough to pay for the remedy the opening lines of Watchmen provide.

  • @AtticusStount Are you supposed to be a writer? Nice comment...

  • fuck it's gandalf's younger brother

  • @reasland You sure it's not actually him, reincarnated?

  • @WowbaggerGriffin YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!! lol

  • Moore looks like he`s homeless, but is the guy behind Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Swamp Thing, LXD, Lost Girls, and The Killing Joke.

    And he sounds like Einstein.

  • How did Alan Moore supposedly have a problem with Grant Morrison possibly taking over Marvelman because he was a "green" writer when he said all of this stuff about nature? Was that bad info, or....?

  • @MaLLinz289 The new 'green' movement is complete bullshit. It's essentially an ad campaign designed to make people feel good about their old-style consumerism. The only difference is that they added the word 'green' to the word consumer. The net result is the same: take, make and throw away. But now it's called 'green.'

Examine how a Prius is built, where it's manufactured and what powers it. You'll see very quickly that it's total bullshit. A person who is truly 'green' would not say so.

  • @MaLLinz289 the term "green" can also mean inexperienced or someone who is a rookie.

  • Haha this one's more wacky and playful, he's doing a talking to himself bit like the one in Alice in Sunderland by Bryan Talbot. Or Bryan Talbot was inspired by this. Or neither, they just happened to have the same idea, maybe.

  • Jesus Christ he's young in this one.

  • Alan Moore "hates doing interviews" my ass.

  • Hmm, just wondering, is this a standalone documentary, or is it a series of documentaries?

  • northampton northampton northampton

  • Oh man Alan Moore and Tears for Fears! Gotta love the English they understand suffering, what is it about rainy countries XD

  • he is so handsom and single but he is a father naneedj.info

  • Things to do before I die:

1# Become friends with Alan Moore

  • PROMETHEA is really great, if you want to learn what Alan Moore means by "magic"...

  • I was just thinking, maybe the reason we seem to be so willing to expect that nature will always be there, and will always serve us, is because that's the relationship many children have with their parent. To a relative helpless child, the parent has illimitable powers, and always takes responsibility for the child's well-being.

I wonder, if parents let their children have more responsibility for themselves, if the populace would be more ecologically responsible as adults.

  • You know what I like best about Alan Moore? He would never give you any of the 'trust your story, follow your heart' BS Neil Gaiman gives you.

  • Alan Moore talking (and insulting) to himself should really have been a lot more trippy than it is.

  • @JenxRodwell listen to it with sound only.... and let ur mind to the rest

  • he inspires me to want to write a comic-always wanted to, but he's ramped things up to the next level...

  • 9:21 - "Television, Movies, Comics". Always wondered where the Poppies got that.

  • Perhaps the most entertaining speaker I've heard, and surely the greatest comic book author of our times. His monologues are great and a delight to watch.

  • It's weird to see him this young again. You can observe the way age has taken toll on him over the years. He talks much slower and monotone now, whereas in this video his voice is much more expressive.

  • i really like swamp thing but was kinda iffy on it at first but i'm starting to appreciate the horror anthology aspect of it. read while on drugs

  • 2:15 - 2:33 Very well said Mr. Moore.

  • The problem with moore is that he thinks he's some messiah or genius of story-telling. I find his work to be good in places but overall very preachy and sometime even boring. It's nowhere near as good as so many people comment on.

It's like when Godfather wins best movie polls, they only win because people think that's what critics rate as the best films ever. If more people actually talked about what they liked and not what they thought others liked we'd have a more varied opinion.

  • @Jammsbro1 True, but The Godfather is pretty awesome.

  • Alan Moore took a shite one day and Grant Morrison was born.

  • "My name is Alan Moore, I sing heavy metal songs" XD

  • My most recent VtM character is influenced by your work. And much more besides.

  • check out Alan's garbage at 8:48

  • its hard not to respect this man after you hear him speak.

  • @HamerLamer But it's also hard to not think of him as a bit of a jerk as well. While I love his work he doesn't seem like someone I would get along with.

  • Was I the only person who laughed when Alan Moore said you don't need schooling in the classics to read comics. Maybe you don't need it, but with his comics at least it really helps.

  • @MavsWorld yeah and that's why mainstream comics suck a lot of the times because they're built up so much on backstory that artists and writers never do anything new.

  • @MavsWorld Haha, excellent point. Moore is an avid reader and an intellectual, and his writing indicates that. In what I've read of Alan Moore so far, however, at least he educates the reader as the story progresses, so that the reader isn't left in the dark wondering "What in God's name is he talking about?" It's all really thought provoking, which is why I love his work.

  • Alan Moore scares me, if you've read his stuff you know why. He's brilliant and an amazing writer, but bat-shit crazy.

  • Wow, I found this my serendipity.

  • eu nao sou americano

  • great documentary. im reading swamp thing now it's so fucking wierd

  • @THEHITPACK Alan's run on the series was brilliant.

  • A modern day sage no doubt... Alan Moore, thrive on.

  • I'm with zeppelin8! Moore for Nobel Prize in Literature!

We should start a group on facebook or mail the jury or whatever the fuck we can to make an influence.

  • '...Would you say you have sort of a messiah complex?'

'Well i wouldn't cut my hair this way if i didn't.' XD

    Great stuff!

  • Esse cara é muito loco, ele é o cara!

  • I dream that in my life time, Alan Moore will be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

  • @zeppelin8 are you a retard? alan is good but he not deserves a NOBEL PRIZE nobel its too much for aa writter like him.

  • @kriahambul Hahaha, I can assure you, I suffer from no mental illness. But Alan has introduced a deeper literary element to the medium of comics, and has made it accessible for people of all ages world wide. I think that is definitely commendable, especially looking at all the topics he has covered (anarchism/government, environmentalism, nuclear war and British colonialism).

  • @zeppelin8 I think he'll get A LOT of world wide attention from his "Jerusalem" book he's writing. Maybe then he'll get his prizes.

  • @zeppelin8 AND THE PULITZER

  • @zeppelin8 of all people, especially alan moore does not care about a crappy prize.

  • @zeppelin8 oh shut up you poser, what do you know about comic books and its story and literature

  • @CAZPERsayz A poser!? I just made a comment that I think Alan Moore is a great writer. I know plenty about his works, you condescending prat. "What do you know about comic books and its story and literature". That question is badly phrased to the point where I question your literacy.

  • LSD is a hell of a drug..

  • he sounds so intelligent and genuine because he's very passionate about the things he's talking about, it has nothing to do with education we're all experts in something usually the things we're interested in. gotta love this guy :)

  • I love how Allan is so dark. I feel like his view and my view on the world are one in the same.

  • Hang on, is the Alan Moore before the dispair and the hate set in? Is this the... dare I say it... Cuddly Alan Moore?

  • i love these series of videos, Alan Moore is a wonderful individual.

  • he is such a great writer and he did such an amazing job on from hell much better then watchmen. watchmen is a great book but i think from hell was way better he is such a great comic writer probly one of the best

  • i thought alan moore hated hollywood.. whats with all this chessy acting stuff?

  • this was before his work was ruined by hollywood

  • Because everyone knows acting is unpractised outside the small section of LA called Hollywood...

  • one answer....it's subjecitve.

  • Alan Moore!!!

    All day, every day!!!

  • Love the old-school production.

Alan Moore is such a legend.

  • he looks like he wants some Cuppasoups.

Get down and get with it!

  • He's not the 1990's comic book messiah. He's a very naughty boy.

  • We're all individual, we're all different.

    Except me, I'm not.

  • Heh.

His package is pretty sweet at 9:03

  • wizard beaver

  • this guy sounds like hes smart as hell must have made good grades in school too

  • Actually, he was expelled for dealing LSD! Doesn't stop him from being brilliant, mind.

  • not in school :)

  • Alan Moore was 34 at the time of this tv special. He still has his trademark beard and long hair.

  • I havent read watchmen, so could somebody tell me if the movie fucks the comic in the ass as much as the Vendetta-movie did? :(

  • actully no the movie watchmen is great i think they only change a few things around like the ending for one but it keeps 95 % to the comic book

  • I thought the movie version of Watchmen was wonderful. Say 80%+ successful.

I would suggest that you read the graphic novel first -- it's considered a classic. And you'll pick up on little details in the movie. A bit of a flaw of the movie, is that is has to condense so much info, that it is very hard for some people to digest the first time, if they are not familiar with the comic book world it presents. I look forward to the Director's Cut.

  • Yeah, Watchmen was pretty horrible if you ask me. Read the graphic novel anyways. It's pretty amazing.

  • The Movie is good but the comic is even better, so read IT NOW !!!!!! :P

  • Story wise, it's actually fairly faithful. Unfortunately it's got Zack Snyder's greasy fingerprint all over it in the form of Slow-Motion fight scenes and generally overly graphic violence. The book isn't actually all that violent. But I'm a hardcore fanboy of the book and I'd rate the theatrical cut (haven't seen the directors cut yet) a good 7.5/10. I'd recommend it actually.

  • The only time there's a fight in the movie that wasn't in the source material was the end. You kind of have to give your average cinema-goer a bit of a rest.

  • Yeah, but what there IS, is way too much liberty with the amount of gore. The book isn't very graphic, so the fact that they've added all this gore that wasn't in the book annoys me. And the slow-motion is just Zack Snyder indulging himself like a fat kid indulges in cake. Can't keep his fucking hands off for the life of him.

  • Alan Moore is the God. Even better than Chuck Norris:D

  • Nah, I think Chuck Norris could punch Alan Moore out. But I'll rather be Alan Moore than Chuck Norris.

  • I think that every one would like to bee rather Alan moore:D

  • Alan Moore would be able to implode Morris' mind with his magick. I'd love to see that fight played out in a comic mini-series though.

  • ...Damn, this guys good. This video on its own has opened my eyes to more tragic flaws in humanity

  • You think the video is good, read some of his work.

  • Love this man. Incredible writer.

  • At roughly 9:00 Alan remarks something similar to that in the future, kids would not get their information from 'traditional' sources but from more 'vulgar' ones. With the newspapers dying and the internet dominating everything else, it's interesting to see Moore be a prophet once again.

  • I love the part where Alan reads the excerpt from "Swamp Thing"

  • would i have a hair cut like this if i didn't....

    lol

  • AAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

It's the 80's! They're back! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

  • Comment removed

  • NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo they'l fuck it up or completey miss the point. My god, theyve taken every moore story and told it completey out of context without even a sense of irony. No No No. Please No

  • O_O

i retract my previous statement your right.

  • I so wish it wasnt like that and i could look forward to comic book adaptations that stay true to the comic.

They ruined From Hell,V, Watchmen,300,Sin City,Batman and not to forget the stinking pile of Elephant Turds that was the LOEG film.

  • Comment removed

  • Everything. sorry not to agree with you but i dont like adaptations. bit like moore here

  • Comment removed

  • I'll tell you your lucky not to have seen from hell, it stinks.

i wish they could just stay faithful to the actual story for once.

  • I love Alan Moore's work. Everything he does is amazing.

I never would of thought of superheroes as "older men who like to play dress up" had I not read Watchmen (I still love em' though.). V for Vendetta made us remember the 5th of November. Now I'm reading his DC Comics story fillers (DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore) and hope to read "Swamp Thing" in the future.

  • Moore's series, "Miracle Man" is wonderful, but hard to find as it's in a legal quagmire.

You might like his recent works, done for "America's Best Comics" -- a part of DC Comics: "Promethea" is a deep mix of Wonder Woman and Doctor Strange.

"Top Ten" presents a vast city, where everyone is a superhero. "Tom Strong" is a lighthearted look at a pulp character, like a Doc Savage. Great stuff! ^_^

Swamp Thing was his first DC series -- and he recreated the character as an Earth-elemental.

  • Genius...And amazing synthesizer

  • genius

  • beautiful human being.

  • youve gotta love alan moore and his work im proud to be from the city hes from(northampton)

  • I need the soundtrack to this stuff! Can anyone name the song at 0:12

  • Yeah, it's Tears for Fears, from the 'Songs from the big chair' album. The song is called 'Listen'

  • I love his sense of humour. Also the fact that he's a bit nutty. :)

  • These videos are great thanks. If you know somebody or can do it yourself you could run the audio through a cleaning tool to remove excess noise, it's not that hard. They can be a bit harsh on the ears. But again thanks for these.

  • reminds me of steve coogan's character Saxondale

  • Some what Nihilistic always awesome

  • No it's not. I recommend a dictionary...

  • Alan Moore believes Anarchy is the way to truly rule the world. that comes off as Nihilistic because that means if you want no ruling class that usually includes physical and spiritual

  • NEVER nihilistic. Always talks of creating something better. more Nietzschean

  • yeah that first requires requires tossing off Ideologies like I said both Physical and Spiritual thus meaning you don't believe the concept of god as it is right now and want a better concept

  • I absolutely respect Alan Moore & love his work. But he's a bit like Garth Marenghi.

  • U know Garth Marenghi isn't a real person, right? Maybe you meant it as a joke.

  • Many thanks. But Santa is still real right?

  • Its a shame really. He and Frank Miller did such true genius art in the 1980's, but then what happened?

Outside Sin City Frank just sort of parodied Batman, and Alan Moore seems to hate everything, and distances himself.

I mean they went to pass the baton and nobody picked it up...

  • if you look at frank miller before and after he hit hollywood success, you'll notice a change from humble garb to captain morgan mustache/beard and a cowboy hat. he may've become a little conceited

as for moore... it's probably a natural progression. he's gone from trying to make an impact to being fed up with the human race. poor guy- but who knows. he has a way of surprising us. maybe he's cooking something up.

  • brilliantly put. i never thought of it that way.

  • so Alan Moore is Doctor Manhatten?

  • no way-- the great thing about Moore is that he's innovative. Next thing he does will be something he hasn't done yet ;)

  • eh? What about Promethea? and the whole ABC project?

  • this video was made about 12 years before promethea was being published.

  • Alan Moore is not the 90's comic book messiah, he is the comic book messiah of entire history.

  • He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

  • lmao

  • where did you find his documentry ?

can i buy it one dvd ?

  • i love his writing. his writing nobodty will ever do. his writing is almost like potery. it makes since when you read it its not like frank miller who gives you one sotry. alan moore gives you something realstic and makes since out of and aslo adds a litle bit of whats goging on in real life.

  • Does anybody which swamp thing Moore is reading all that great stuff from? I'd really like to get it...

  • i think it was swamp thing 1 or 2 you can find them on amazon. swamp thing 2 is out of print. so that one is gonna be hard. iam having turble find that one.

  • This is clearly from the 80's listen to the sweet sound of electric piano.

  • swamp thing is my favorite right now

  • alan is simply the best.

    v for vendetta

    watchmen

    swamp thing

    from hell

    lost girls

    NUFF SAID

  • Damn right!

  • Man, listen to that sweet 80's synthesizer.

  • Cor. Them days when you could pay around thirty pence for a comic, eh? I can remember the Beano being forty pence when I was about nine...no doubt it's some ridiculous price now, and comes with ASBO hoodie ipod ringtones as a free gift.

    (Christ alive, I sound old)

  • is this the documentary thats mentioned in the first The Moon And Serpent Grand Egyptian Theatre Of Marvels recording?

  • Which comic book, or volume of Swamp thing is at 6:20?

And also for 3:42, where he's talking about a tiger in the cosmetic department, and at about 8:12 when he says ''Is this then, what it is to be a god?'' ....

I want to get them, but I don't know from which books their from.

  • I've been looking for a collection of his works on Swamp Thing, and havent had any luck.

  • i know the scene from 3:42 is from swamp thing earth to earth. The books arent hard to find, it's carried in most comic book stores and you can order them online from any book store with a comic book section usually.

  • Would I have to pick up a bunch of seperate comics, or is there a Watchmen-esque graphic novel version?

  • There is a series of 6 graphic novels.

  • alan moore is such a genuis he may look like a emo type heavey meatal person but he is such a genuis he is so smart probly the best comic wrtier in histroy period end of story ALAN MOORE IS THE BEST.

  • do you think you have a touch of a Messiah complex? " would i have a hair cut like this if i didn't."

    Genius

  • This. Is. Brilliant.

Thank you so much for uploading.

  • Amazing how relevant the things he talks about still are. Maybe even moreso. This is 21years ago, and we're still dealing with the problems he speaks of.

  • "Underneath our feet... nature is still there. The wilderness is still there... and though man man might boast of having conquered nature, that's not the case, for if nature were to shrug or to merely raise its eyebrow, then we should all be gone."

    Awesome.

  • Many of the readings made this here hardened comic reader cry like a fucking baby. Thank you Alan, you are an inspiration.

  • in many ways Swamp Thing is an extraordinarily powerful, supernatural entity - but comics, like film, exist to provide tools for living and of what use are they if they can't help us relate to our own lives? Swamp thing, Superman, and other heroes are above men but in many ways they exist to act as a reflection of ourselves. we are all superman, we are all swamp thing - we all have the power to save and reshape the world as we see fit

  • i love this channel very interesting

  • Alan moore is a genius

  • Alan Moore is god

  • No, he's the Messiah of comic books...

    not much difference really though

  • thanks for uploading this!

  • I only wish to have your powers Sr.

  • Alan Moore: comic book artist, humorous genius, and philosopher. Alan Moore, your fans salute you!

  • "why would i have a haircut like this if I didn't"

  • AWESOME LINE.

  • This documentary is just fantastic. Thank you so much for uploading it!

  • I love how he just berates, heckles and questions himself. I mean even he realizes what he does for a living and he makes the most of it. Whether you believe he's overrated on not you have to agree he's a very intelligent man

  • He reminds me of the steve coogan character, saxondale !!!

  • If you spit upon the earth, you spit upon mankind.

  • The Stravinsky comparison near the beginning was great!

Having read Watchmen, I had already imagined Alan
