  • I heard Steven Sondheim on bbc radio 2, and he said that the jukebox musical as they are known. Are killing Broadway and the West End, in as much as creation, creativity and quality. To put a brand new original musical it can cost 50m or even more. And most of that money they will never see returned. And about 3 times that if your musical is called Spiderman and being put on Broadway.

  • nice falsetto

  • I was watching "Happy Feet" the other day and wondering why no one had made THAT into a musical yet. It's got singing, dancing and music we already know! And most of the actors are wearing tuxes! Why has nobody picked up on that?

  • Love it!

  • "Wait i'm in the wrong key, aren't i?... yeah i am that sucks" haha that made me laugh so hard, before he even starts the song. Geez.

  • this is such a wonderful song ^^ so true, too. i get this song stuck in my head all the time, no matter how long it's been since i've watched the vid.

  • Did this guy really tour with Carlin?

  • the message is damn straight :D

  • @kdfljgfldghldfgshdfl Douchebag

  • wow the crowd was so unmoved at the beginning...

  • theyre too fixed on him

  • Did he just fid someone to sing a harmony note with him around 2:06?!

  • find*

  • Yeah, I can hear it too :P.

  • hes pretty funny but stephen lynch is the king of music comedy!!!

  • yeah, but this guy is clean

  • I love Stephen Lynch but you can't compare every guitar comic to him. :)

  • Oh that Rob... he so funny. ;)

  • This goes for everything from TV to Movies. Nothing seems original any more, just look at the recent movies that came out. Star Trek, New Bond Film, Wolverine, and Angels and Demons.

  • Thank God for District 9 and Moon: Actual ORIGINAL sci-fi movies! I'm sick of things based off franchises.

  • Sad thing is that most cult films are based on books. 2001 Space Odessy, Dune.

  • Haha yeah man, that's true. I did thoroughly enjoy Moon though, and District 9 is completely original :D

  • Original yes - but its a mix between halo and a more honest dipiction of the Apartheid

  • actually, 2001 the novel was written at the same time as the screenplay - with ideas developed on one often being incorporated into the other.

  • Panam definitely survived to 2001. LoL

    Didnt know that

  • Books are so depressing. Wait, what?

  • Musicals always have a theme that just doesn't help anyone and that everyone knows about. Like "drugs are bad!"... Then I think "thank you, Captain Obvious!" I thought that was what he was gonna be what he would talk about, but that doesn't seem to be it.

  • =D I love this guy. RobP rocks.

  • sad, but true

  • LOL this is SO true! Seeing "Rock of Ages" tonight (Off Broadway 80s jukebox musical), but everything on Broadway is derivative of something else (Grease, anyone?). Even Spring Awakening and The Heights are just Rent updates.

  • Yeah, In The Heights and Spring Awakening have nothing to do with Rent. Pretty much everything is different about the those shows.

And Spring Awakening was a play first, so if anything, Rent is an update on Spring Awakening.

  • Actually, Rent was an adaptation of La Boheme, which is older than Spring Awakening the play. And Spring Awakening the play is farrrr darker than the musical. But no, they actually are all the same - musical "identities" of cultural subsets of NYC, and the angsty little kids who inhabit those subets.

  • Spring Awakening is set in Germany. Not NYC.

  • But it is based off of the same basic set of principles, which is what I think haynespeterson is getting at

  • Thanks for posting this! Hopefully I'll get to see him live one day.

  • @BlueNight134: I lol'd...then I felt bad.

  • i dont care much for broadway turned movies. i think they are a waste of money. they should be a straight to dvd thing not show in movie theaters.

  • Well maybe YOU don't like broadway movie, but plenty of people do, and I'm one of them. I love seeing them in theaters.

  • So true, I'm sick of Broadway musicals based on movies.

  • ....

and what about all the movies based on broadway musicals?

  • I ♥ OLD STUFF xD

    New stuff scare people LOL

  • i thought immediately about the musical 'we will rock you' that uses all the songs from queen.

  • plot ya thats the word for you

  • I have to say, besides the Pachelbel Rant, I really prefer your monologues and mini films about your life on the road over your songs.

  • "prefer your"

why do you people think that you're actually watching a video that the artist himself has uploaded? it is obviously some random person who uploaded this, you're not actually talking to the artist -.-

  • I hadn't noticed that someone else had put this up, he has posted a varied sampling of his works willingly and I was foolish to think that this was yet another non-stolen view into his genius.
