    Juanita

  • Oh, the hours and hours and hours of practice...

  • what if a small one broke then all of them shattered? O.o

  • I think this might be the hardest thing ever

  • It is anitras dance from edvar greig from peer gynt

  • *sniffs* T_T. It's so beautiful.

  • What song title? Composer? Thx

  • Edvard Grieg: Anitra's Dance

  • You cannot do this with a glass made from glass. It MUST be done with lead crystal and it's more expensive. It will also annoy everyone around you really quickly.

  • You cannot do this with a glass made from glass. It MUST be made from lead crystal. More expensive, but it will work all the time, and get annoying really fast to everyone around you.

  • No matter how much I try I can't make a glass sound!!

  • It's not true, that you need some special glass. ANY glass works, but you need to wet your finger. Hold the glass by the stem, and move your finger around the rim.

  • should play some danny elfman tunes sounds kinda like it.

  • So beautiful! Sounds like from some enchanted place. Bravo!

  • I'll raise a glass to this!

  • SIMPLY HEAVEN!!!

  • :D such an amazing talent.

  • Bloody hell, how cool is that. Thanks for sharing Brian :-)

    Remember, keep it wet....LOL.

  • It's like they're dancing to the music as they jump from note to note.

  • i could watch this all day, it's so beautifully done. And their control over the dynamics is astounding

  • oh my god!it's so...faboulous.absolutely gorgeous!

  • man, anitra's dance on glass harp is simply heaven . :)

  • holy sweet jesus mother and god...... i lost the use of my foot.

  • Glasses are mounted to a sounding board - similar idea as a guitar top -

Watch their hands you see they have a hidden water dish to constatnly wet their fingers - No need for water in each glass as each crystal glass is tuned on it's own - just add friction - and a load of style - inspiration and imperturbable self-possession poise and assurance

  • wow, cool, i love it

  • It funny, I only thought to look for wine glass music on youtube because I remembered an episode of The Powerpuff Girls where the Mayor was playing music on wine glasses. I'm glad I looked for this.

  • wow! wonderful coordinated, no water in the glasses, must be some special kind of glasses

  • nah not really, you dont need water.. u just get the lowest note of the glass without water - so with no water you just need different sized glasses..

  • What is the name of this performers? please

  • i just want to know how they get the glasses to stand they always fall for me unless i hold the bottom

  • They're usually braced with rubber bands at the base.

  • But they play only with 53 or 57 of them. I don't know exactly.

  • I was on their concert in Olsztyn yesterday. I think that they're really awesome. ^^'

  • *twitch* Amazing. I can't even do that with one glass ;-;

  • normally the glasses we have are cheap thats why...lol

  • great! i once played it in a guitar quartett and now i'm very fascenated that it's also possible to play it in that way!

  • FElicitaciones. increible!

  • I think it's amazing that they can remember which glass is which pitch.

  • They don't need to remember - the glasses are arranged like the keyboard of a piano.

  • yeah...but let's see 'em do "Chop Sticks"....

  • It really has all the charms!

The glass harp was en vogue at the time when Mozart was in Paris. It was thought to mesmerize people. Mozart composed several pieces of music especially for glass harp. The scala depends on the amount of water in the glasses.

  • its the size and shape of the glass

  • no water...

  • It looks like they dont have any water in them at all...

  • on second thought ... the sound is pretty good compared to other vids (not this one) ... i might upload them :)

  • i heard these two live when they were touring around europe :D it was awesome! got an autographed cd too :D ... i did record almost the whole concert but the sound quality could be better :|

  • Wow! What a beautiful, haunting melody it makes! o.o

  • check out the 'Armonica', or 'Glass Harmonica' as it's sometimes called.. it's basically a mechanical wine glass orchestra invented by Benjamin Franklin. It really is a rather amazing invention indeed, and the sound is beautiful.

  • Je suis impressionné par la qualité et la justesse de l'interprétation. Félicitations et merci !

  • Wow!

    Haha. Anitra's Dance.

Totally played that in orchestra before!

  • so this is basically a tamberine roll on glasses?

  • Awesome! Only... The pitch has always lowered as I added more water (or mass). No?

  • yeah more water makes a lower soung. like if you blow over a bottle more air makes more sound. so yeah your right

  • unbelieveble

  • crazy

  • Its weird, theres some people jamming the shit outa some glasses, but its beautiful

  • So... the tone is generated by the resonance of the glass against the air right? So how is the pitch changed? By the putting varying amounts of water in the cups (which I don't see here) or by the size of the cups alone?

    Obliged to anyone with knowledge.

  • wolfpack1980,

Yes, running your fingers over the tops of the glasses causes them to resonate, which produces sound. The pitch can be varied by the both size of the glasses and how much water is put in them. The thickness of the glass and the shape will also change the pitch. Assuming the glass thickness and shape are the same, the smaller the glass, the higher the pitch. Also, the more water you put in the glass, the higher the pitch will be relative to the glass if it had no water in it.

  • Thank you for your great performance! I really love the sound of the glass.

  • Thank you for posting :)

  • like you?

  • Bam!

  • Awesome!!

  • maravilloso!!!

  • sound like something off of harry potta

  • That's not a bad call, the musical piece they play, is written for celesta and the theme of harry potter is played on the celesta so it is in the same ballpark.

  • its good but its def not the best, theres alot more on youtube that own this

  • theyre a bit over the top

  • im now going to learn this :)

  • When I get stressed out at school i just sit back and listen to this music and all the stress melts away on a river of resonating

    beauty.

  • dickheads much?

  • Welcome to YouTube.

  • Welcome to the Internet.

  • anitra dance (peer gynt) de Grieg

  • non c'est pas Bach.

C'est "anitra dance" (dans Peer Gynt) de Grieg.

    Sublime !

  • Could you let me know what the piece of music is

    sounds 19c

    You are both Marvelous

    I really enjoyed your playing

  • That's Bach, right?

  • Great instrument and players indeed. I have found many other nice videos on Youtube with a close instrument called glassharmonica played by a french musician called Thomas Bloch (write his name and search on Youtube). This guy also plays another ethereal instrument called onde Martenot (also on Youtube).

  • woa

  • do you think they set it up like a keyboard? that's alot of jumping around to know where each pitch is...

  • Meu Deus..que som maravilhoso

    Parabéns!!!!!

    Wilson (Brazil)

  • I wonder how long setting the Glass Harp UP took.

  • Hmmm... to do this, don't your fingers need to be slightly wet? I don't see them taking any time to moisten their fingers.

  • I'd imagine some may use oils of some kind. When trying to produce a full song, it would be too tedious to have to continuously dip your fingers, so it wouldn't surprise me.

  • it wouldn't surprise me if they do take time to moisten their fingers. given the way this is filmed, it could be cut so that those moments aren't seen.

  • You can see them sometimes put there hands behind the table and when they dampen their fingers. That answers your question. It reminds me of someone taking a breath for an instrument. don't see it normally but if you concentrate you can spot it.

  • Wow, beautiful!

  • freakysssssss!!!!! ¬¬

  • damn it looks sped up o.o

and if they were going that fast, they must have glued the glasses down or something so they didnt knock them over from going to fast lol

  • they tie them down.

  • eeeexxxeeellleeenntt!!!

  • sp: excellent

    sorry. im a nerd

  • Strangely, I like this version way more than the original orchestrated version. Pretty freaking neat stuff. :3

  • awe...some...awesome...just, awesome...

  • Wow....that's so....just wow. Holy wow. I envy them and their talent so much.

  • its like if the music trapped my soul

  • Wow, that's truly remarkable. But was there any water in the glasses? Or was it just the sizes of the glasses that causes the different notes? As far as I could see, the glasses were empty.

  • omg, how cool! lol, i did that at a wedding once, but I had to stop, it was too loud. XD

  • Squeaky clean glasses! Sounds fantastic! I love it!

  • epehemeral is the word that comes to mind.

  • beautiful

  • BBBOOOOOoAAAAA WOOOOOOOOOO hoooo coool stufff

  • Abgesehen vom Reiz des Ungewöhnlichen und der faszinierenden Technik kenne ich keinen vergleichbaren Klang; Elfen müßten sich so anhören.

  • Saw a remarkable demonstration of the wine glass music in Venice a year ago. There is something enchanting about the sound don't you all think ?

  • Yes, haunting indeed

  • LOL, that has to be the funniest comment I've seen on youtube , thanks it made me laugh out loud.

  • glassduo com

  • AMAZING!! Does anyone know who these people are? I also know that there is a Christmas album out, of someone playing the glass harp. I've looked for ages, and still haven't found anything. Any help would be appreciated.:)

  • excellent ...

  • The glass's seem to be fixed on the table... right.

One way or an other, amazing!!!

  • it doesnt even sound real, thats how good it is

  • A short synopsis of the situation:

Peer wanders the Moroccan desert, and acquires the emperors horse and cape. He arrives at an oasis, where the beduins are camped. He's welcomed, treated as a prophet, and gets to meet the chief's daughter; the beautiful Anitra, who dances for him.

  • Anitra's Dance, correct?

  • The title at 00:28 is in some funny language.

The original title is "Anitras Dans", in english: "Anitra's Dance".

It's one part of Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1" (opus 46), one of two suites Grieg composed to Henrik Ibsen's play "Peer Gynt".

Google for it, and you should find the script. It's Act 4; scenes 6 (The Prophet), 7 (Anitra I) and 8 (Anitra II).

    Enjoy.

PS! It's Edvard with a regular v, NOT Edward.

  • 0:28 "Taniec Anitry" It must be some Slavic language.. My tip is Polish.. or Czech

  • Wow, this is strangely relaxing.

  • whoa, cool!

  • O.......MY......GOD...!!!

  • Wicked cool :*)

  • Edward Grieg - whats the title of this song?

  • whoa man, galss music is always extremyl imrpessive.

  • what the song theyre playing?

  • it's a piece from composer Edward Grieg (see 00.28 min.)Beautiful!

  • Exquisite!

  • XxX.. WOW! dat is amazzzzinnnggg!! I dunno how you could memorize where each glass was for each note!! Brillant! It sounded like an orchestra! .. XxX

  • Beautiful. I think it's a movement from Edward Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King.

  • wow!!!!!!!

  • ....that is a real instrument, you dumb ass.

  • water

  • What is used on their fingers to make the glasses ring like that?

  • I find making music with wine glasses 2 b very interesting.

  • Here's an idea idiots. Get some real instruments

  • remove yourself from the gene pool.

  • out?

  • How is that not an instrument? You are the idiot.

  • You're the idiot! This is an instrument!

  • Heres an idea moron, get a real LIFE and quit bitching about everyone elses talents.

  • sounds like Harry potter

  • Hope I don't come off as trolling, but actually, to be precise it would be Harry Potter that sounds like Edvard Grieg.

He lived from 1843 to 1907, so he wins the time race :)

  • I want to go to one of their concerts!!! come to Chicago

  • wonder if they ever knock into each other?

  • It's grieg anitra's dance?

  • yes it is

  • If you're really interested in how it actually works, try this YouTube video -->

ABJzzYSw3fs (How to play wine glass music)

It shows how adding more water lowers the pitch of the glass. Remember, your fingertips have to be wet!

  • Bigger glasses make lower pitches, and I think to some degree it's controlled by how much water is in the glass itself. In order to make certain tones, or notes, you would need a wide array of glasses and you'd have to "tune" them by filling with water and listening or using an electronic tuner to find the notes. Try it with a wine glass and see what happens :) Just be careful that you're gentle, the glass "stem" (that's the thin piece" might snap if you're too rough.

  • Wow its just like there touching and with magic it plays beautiful melody T.T soo beautiful encore

  • Mesmerizing!

  • shit, doesnt even look like they are playing but who am i to judge?

  • Can anyone tell me how to learn to play the Glass Harp?! @.@ I desperately want to learn it!!!!

    I've been trying for ages!

I'm 16 and self taught at the Piccolo as a first for 2 years, and the Flute for nearly one.

I want to learn these BADLY!!! ='(

  • See if you can find a wine glass, and fill it about halfway with water. Dip your finger in the water and run it around the rim of the glass. The friction from your finger creates the sound that you hear on the glass harp. It takes some practice to know how much pressure to put on the rim of the glass, but try it out and see how it works :) This works best with wine glasses of varying sizes. Wal-mart has those giant ones you can use to make the really loooow notes. Have fun!

  • So how do you learn what glass makes certain tones to be able to play music like this?!

    =(

  • i thought that was anita's dance by edward Greig

  • You're right, it is.

  • The music is from 'danza della fata confetto' of Tchaikovsky

  • its actualy anitra's dance

  • ummm what song were they playing....if anyone knows...

  • O.O

  • This can't be easy. I saw it live in Europe on the streets, and it is magical to hear and watch. Thanks for posting this!!
