  • how much louder did the vance and hindes make it?

  • @durbunk A lot. Sounds 100% different than the stock exhaust. I actually bought and installed the quiet baffles after about a year w/out them. They improve back pressure and sound a bit better I think. And about 5-10db quieter.

  • put forward control much...much better

  • @asyarifuddin66 nah... all depends on how you ride. You have far more control of your bike with mid-controls. I do have hwy pegs on it now though for kicking them out on the long straights, but typically I like to ride more spirited and mids are more my style.

  • I'm gettin ready to put on the same set of pipes on my 1200C. Where'd you find room to put the V&H fuel pak?

  • @gemerson14 No V&H Fuelpak, I have the SE Heavy Breather and the SE Race Tuner, professionally dyno tuned by HD Dealer.

  • whats the effective milage to expect on one of these until they get bad. i.e around 170000 miles on a car.

  • @KJR8910 not sure how to really answer a question like that. All depends on how you take care of it and how it's ridden. 170K on many cars is nothing. My GTI has 176K on it now and runs like new. According to Blue Book, this bike's average accumulated mileage would be 11,270 right now and I have about 8000 on her. She's for sale by the way.

  • @dgmphotography I wish I could buy that right now haha. Thanks though ;D

  • holy crap i want that bike and i have a whithe gti 2 lol

  • @Kno63 This bike is for sale man. Let me know if you're interested.

  • @Kno63 This bike is for sale man. Let me know if you're interested.

  • Sick!!! The best lookin Harley by far!!

  • @DJMugl Thanks man. It's been modified quite a bit since this video. It's also for sale now.

  • This bike is now for sale. Search eBay for: "2009 Harley-Davidson 883N Customized"

  • im 15 and i would fucking kill for one of those

  • @jayguy508 This bike is now for sale. Search eBay for: "2009 Harley-Davidson 883N Customized"

  • @jayguy508 my thoughts exactly haha can't wait to get my permit

  • Зверь!

  • Nice bike! pickin my 2011 Iron up next week... cant wait to get it. like a kid at christmas time

  • I am going to be taking a rider course to get my license in june and was wondering if you would recommend this for a begginer bike?? btw I am 6'2" ~ 260lbs....NICE BIKE!

  • @03LancerDude I don't necessarily think this is either a great or a terrible choice for a first bike. It's fairly heavy and even though it's a small harley, it still has a lot of power for a first bike, in my opinion. That said, a responsible first time rider with skills would have no problem with this bike. It's a great bike. You might feel a little cramped on her at your size. Sit on some and see. Don't let the salesman talk you into anything. Of course, they want to sell bigger/expen

  • @03LancerDude

your size I would say you need something a little bigger like a dyna

  • @03LancerDude if I were you id go with something like a suzuki DR650SE for a first bike...

  • I have a novice question. I'm new to the H-D brand owning a '10 Fatbob. I'm considering getting a Nightster or Iron too but really don't care much for the rubber fork boots. Is that something that can be removed or is it integral to the operation of the suspension? Nice bike.Thanx for the post.

  • @ImGrampy The Fatbob is a nice bike! I don't think the fork gators are essential to the suspension at all, but they were deliberately put there on these bikes to establish a particular look. I don't see why you couldn't remove them if you really wanted to. I like them.

  • Thanks for the video - one of the best looking bikes I've ever seen. Just out of curiosity, and maybe this question has already been answered, but what do you think of the Night Rod? I am new to HD, having ridden sport bikes, and have narrowed it down to maybe an Iron 883 Dark Series or a Night Rod Black. Cheers!

  • @tejumo7 Thank you. You should check out my newer vid of the Iron with more mods. this was just the beginning. The NightRod is a completely different bike. About $10K more, 20CI more motor, liquid cooled, 15-20 more lbs torque, about 100lbs heavier, just a very different machine. I like the nightrod, but wouldn't even compare the two. Two different animals.

  • @dgmphotography Thanks for your insight...I stopped in at one of my local HD dealers and definitely see what you mean about two completely different animals. Actually, the Dark Custom Forty-Eight sort of resonated with me. Your beast is still ridiculously cool looking, though. Thanks again!

  • @tejumo7 Yeah... I love the '48. Very cool bike. for me it wasn't worth the extra money they wanted over the iron, when what I really wanted to do was customize it anyway. you'll like the '48 though! post some vids

  • @dgmphotography Thanks again. Are you a long-time HD owner? I'm still doing my research and may even try to find an interesting clean vintage bike to make my own. I know that it's not a HD, but I sort of fell in love with the bike on Krogi72's vid called "Bmw Cafe Racer R75/5 1971". It will just be me riding to and from work and on weekends (no 1000-milers), so something like this looks like a lot of fun. Cheers!

  • @tejumo7 No, I'm fairly new to owning HD's (last 2 years or so). I think an older bike that I will turn into a Cafe will likely be my next one. I also have a Ducati Monster. check my other videos if you want to see that. I'm not sure I'd make a vintage bike my commuter to/from work though unless I really knew that bike inside and out. Sooner or later, you're going to have problems with it.

  • @tejumo7 This bike is now for sale. Search eBay for: "2009 Harley-Davidson 883N Customized"

  • How much cash did all your modifications cost? Worth it?

  • @MrJtr1888 I'm not sure to be honest. I can tell you that the pipes, breather and ECU were all included as part of the deal when I bought the bike. On top of that, I've spent maybe $1100. Definitely worth it. I've spent way more on mods to my other bike

  • Visually, the Iron looks better than the Nightster. But that engine will make you wantin a 1200 after a few hours.

  • @MrJtr1888 You think? I've got over 7000mi on my Iron in a year and a half. Haven't come across a 1200 or a BT that I couldn't hang with. I'm quite happy with it. If I feel a need to go faster, I'll hop on my Ducati. ;)

  • @dgmphotography The onlt 883 i have ridden was an older standard. I have been on a Nightster. So maybe that is a bad comparison.

  • @MrJtr1888 I am quite happy with my 883. Granted, it's got pipes, intake, ecu and dyno tuning amongst other mods, AND I'm pretty light on her back, BUT I've ridden 1200 nightsters, 88CI Dyna's and StreetGlides (all VERY nice bikes) but I wasn't blown away by the performance over my 883 at all, by any of them. Maybe someday I'll put a 1250 upgrade in there, but I doubt it.

  • @dgmphotography the good thing is that you have the choice to upgrade your engine for an ok price.

  • why would you buy an 883 instead of a 1200? i dont get it?

  • @MrCoffeeandWine why not? They don't make the iron in 1200. 1200 is more expensive, insurance is more, uses more gas, reg. is more and the black iron was what I wanted. The ability to say I ride a 1200 isn't important to me. I've ridden the 1200 nightster and street glide extensively and even though great bikes, I wouldn't trade my iron straight up.

  • Beautiful bike. Bravo!

  • good video! love the black iron

  • Did you just flip the mirrors and move the turn signals over or did you need different mirror stems?

  • @MrJtr1888 yes, just flipped the mirrors. Someday I'll replace them with something smaller.

  • @dgmphotography Check out the newer vid with drag bars. The mirros look better with the new bars.

  • @dgmphotography

wow. that's impressive. :) your the owner of two of my favorite things in the world.

  • @DrobertsPB Two of mine too! :)

  • you have a Vdub and a harley?, im so jealous.

  • @DrobertsPB Yep. 2007 VW GTI. I bought it new in '07 and have already driven 140,000 miles on it! :)

  • I got my iron 2010 model and have to ride 1600km till the first service(dealer advice) to fix V&H exhaust with the SE Hight flow filter....

by the way, brown leather seat on your new post looks great!!!

  • @elenagym Thanks! I love the seat. SO much more comfy than the stock and looks just like I wanted it to.

  • Same bike also but I sold my triumph street triple for it. Going to do much the same but with z bars.

  • Great video. Amazing depth of field. Would love to see it in all 1080p glory. I have same bike, sold my R6 for it, like the other dude in your post. Also have same pipes and SE High flow filter. Haha. did you use quiet baffles? I did, just curious about sound difference. I believe baffles lowers the bass register and adds a little more kick due to back pressure in the HP and Torque dept. As for Dyno. I've read that EFi can handle change without remapping.

  • @tomtchoi why did you feel the need to post this, literally, 35 times? Just curious. Obviously, I deleted the other 34. So, are you saying that by adding the quiet baffles to the V&H shorties you gain HP & torque and there's no need to remap? how difficult is it to install afterward? I'd almost try it, as they are cheap, just to see if I can feel a difference. ...IF, installation & remap wasn't a big deal. (I've also got the SE race tuner, which I'm guessing might need to be recal).

  • quiet baffles? If so, are the stock baffles too loud?

  • @chdvndsn I have same bike and same pipes. I have quiet baffles. What they do is lower the bass register, which makes it less tinny, and adds more compression feedback for the engine to utilize resulting in more torque and HP. Plus its less annoying. Although from what I've heard and seen, not by much. Someone actually posted the decible difference and it was only a couple different. but worth using for sound quality and performance.

  • That's the best sound that I've ever heard!! nice iron, I hope some day I can buy one... unfortunately in chile an Iron costs about USD 13.900, that is pretty expensive! :-(

Congratulations for your pipes and Best Regards from Chile

  • do you have the stock mirrors inverted? did you have to adjust your turn signals to get them to fit?

  • yes, they are inverted. I did adjust the turn signal bullets a little bit, but mostly because I wanted to; didn't really have to. The mirrors work a lot better flipped down. With them in the stock position, all I was was my own shoulders in them!

  • Just got mine 2010 Iron Just waitiing for the new V&H pipes I went with the sideshots and heavy breather to be added.. I'm sure I'll be posting some videos soon!!!

  • cool. I do like those side shots too. Check out my newest mods to this bike here if you're interested in another video. Just shot it last week.

  • Man nice ride! I am in process of installing same setup but i have super tuner. Do you have any number from the dyno thaT WOULD help? Thanks eather way ! You take care ride safe. Only dif in our bikes is my bike is denim silver.

  • nice... i like that silver a lot too. My bike actually looks a bit different than this video now. I've added drag bars, a new seat, smoked lenses and a tool bag since this video. I guess I should shoot a new video this Spring.

  • Well the R6 was a ticket waiting to happen! I just decided i am a harley man all the way you just get more attention on a harley especially these little sportsters. I have tons of people who thing mine is a classic restored they are amazed that its a 2009

  • Hello i have the exact same bike except i got the denim silver due to the fact that the 2008 R6 i sold to get it was black. I am putting the same setup that you have have the super tuner and short shots on the way and going to put the breather on when i take it to be dynoed (if i can find a place near Galax Virginia to have it done. Did they give you any info or numbers? Thanks nice ride!

  • Cool... so what made you decide it was time to go from an R6 to a Harley Iron? They did give me the dyno sheets, but they are filed away somewhere. I think I gained something like 10hp and 10 ft-lbs.... something like that.

  • hey man how much is the race tuner?? or is it the same as the ignition system?

  • not sure how much for just the race tuner. I want to say it was in the $300-$400 dollar range, but then you also need to pay for some dyno/tuning time. I know that I got $1500 in free accessories with my new bike. I spent that all on pipes, intake and computer and dyno/tuning. So, I'm not real sure what all the separate components would cost individually. Sorry!

  • nice bike dude ... wat camera did u use for the vid ??

  • Thanks! The camera is a 5D MkII with the 16-35L lens on it.

  • thats awesome. i put a deposit down for an iron 883 yesterday. im in australia, and have to wait until may until i get it :( they're quite limited over here.

i love your pipes. do you need the intake to have the pipes?

  • no, you don't need an intake with the pipes, but you really dont gain anything with just doing the pipes, other than the sound and look... If you do the intake though, then you also really should do the computer, or it could run way too lean.

  • I'll be getting one of these soon, boring out the jugs, and converting to 1250. Can't wait.

  • Nice. Let me know how that conversion to 1250 works out and what you think of it afterwards, performance-wise, compared to the 883. I'll be curious to hear. Thanks!

  • nice bike and nice camera!!!

  • Can you put forward controls with the Vans and Hines on? on the video it looks like the forward pipe is coming down right where the forward controls need to be?

  • not sure to be honest. I actually quite like mid controls. there are times when forward controls would be nice, but I've never really looked into them enough to even know where I'd mount them. Sorry man.

  • yes, you can. I do not have them on my Iron, but I do have the highway pegs that mount in the same spot on the bike. I also have the V&H shorshots. As DGM said, I would not get rid of my mid-mounts, but love having the option. The highway pegs only come in chrome from Harley, and are $200, so just get a used set off e-bay for 50-60 bucks and have them powder coated (only 30 -40 bucks).

  • Nice bike brother.i've got the 1200 nightster with the same pipoes and heavy breather.also just wondering what is the name of the band thats playing in the background?

  • thanks man... no band... just a quick garageband creation :) did you also race tune your nightster with the intake and exhaust?

  • i like that music you put together for your footage :-) and yeah i race tuned my nightster with the intake and exhaust.

  • what a great looking bike and the mods done to it just perfect ..... very impressive .... love it

  • Sounds awesome, what kind of power did you make after the dyno tune?

  • I'll have to find the sheet, but it was an increase of 8HP and 10lbs I think. ...something like that.

  • if you dont mind which state and dealer did you use?>

  • Brandts HD, Indiana.

  • well gratz on the bike and the deal. i wish i could get into a promo that sweet. hey are those shortshots really loud??? i saw a guy with side shots and they sounded beastly, but he said something about them burning his leg all the time.

  • I think my dealer is still offering this deal. they are smart doing it too, because they are selling bikes, while other dealers are "waiting for the economy to improve."

Yeah, the pipes are loud. They are about 1 notch below obnoxious I'd estimate. I like 'em! I've had no problems with burning my leg though at all.

  • when you say it was included with the bike at no charge does that mean you just added the cost onto your loan? sorry for the n00b questions im just looking to buy this soon and want upgrades but dont want to let the dealership wank me. thank you and great bike.

  • What I mean is that the dealer was offering $1500 in free accessories with any new bike. I chose to spend my $1500 on intake, exhaust and tuner.

  • Just wondering, is stuff like the air filter cover, the front and read fender made of steel or metal, or a plastic fiberglass? Always wondered that about harley.

  • Are you asking about the stock air cleaner cover or this heavy breather? The fenders are metal.

  • love it :)

  • Scratching my head reading forums and surfing youtube all week. You seem to have the best three mods, short of taking the big step to 1200cc. I'm taking my Iron in for it's first 1k. What price did your dealer quote for the 3 mods and dyno time? After riding on it for a while, and noticeable changes in performance? Great video, sick bike. Sorry to rip off the mods, but you nailed it.

  • thanks. All said and done, I think the 3 parts, labor and dyno time was about $1700. However, $1500 of that was included with my bike at no charge. So, it cost me about $200. Yes, there was a noticeable improvement in performance. It's not going to be mind blowing, but it was certainly noticeable. I think I gained something like 8HP and 10ftlbs, or something like that. I've got the dyno sheet somewhere.

  • hey man how much did the SE Breather cost for parts and labor?

  • not sure. It was all rolled into the one price for me and included with my bike for msrp. I'm guessing it was $300-$400 for the part by itself. Not sure on labor for just that part. I doubt, that part alone would make much performance improvement though.

  • what's the top speed on the stock 883 (and with the screamin' eagle, if that makes a difference)?

  • ...couldn't tell ya. I can tell you that it goes plenty fast to get me into more trouble than I need. Top speed isn't a big concern for me.

  • this is probably the best looking and sounding sportster I've ever seen... it's looks and sounds like a raging beast.. nice bike man

  • Thanks man.

  • thanks Thelron883. Lens is actually 16mm wide. It's the 16-35L on a 5DMkII body. :) I think I shot that at f/4 too... could have gone to f/2.8 for even shallower depth of field! :) I'm a photographer, not a videographer, but it's a ton of fun to play around with.

  • that camera is AWESOME, i wish i could get that camera. im into videography, but also like photography. Use to have a 40D but sold it....wish i didnt.

  • thanks. I've been quite happy with the body. don't worry about selling your 40D too much...I've not been impressed with it at all. Go 30D or 50D and skip the 40 if you're going to stay with a 1.6X sensor. Otherwise, yeah the 5DII is a real nice tool.

  • that zoom lens gets crazy wide, is it a 28mm? Also crazy shallow depth, nice footage....oh yea, nice bike too haha, I want to get that heavy breather for mine, looks nice.

  • ... except that having a non-harley shop do a conversion voids my 2 year warranty on the bike, a power commander certainly voids the warranty, the parts I got were included in the deal I got from my dealer (cost me nothing), a 1200 would likely change my insurance rates and I like my dealer. I see no reason to void a great 24 month warranty on this bike from Harley at this point. Will keep in mind that 1200 conversion for the future though.

  • Didn't mean to come as a know it all and I understand where you are coming from with the warranty thing. I was just trying to pass along what I learned from performance manuals and forum. To each its own. Also your bike as it is look bitching. and that coming from a guy that has a big Suzuki Hayabusa, so not everybody piss on sportster, your looks my ideal one!

  • Yeah, you're right man. The 1200 conversion is certainly something I'll consider for the future. Just really don't have a good reason right now to do it. Thanks for the compliment on the bike too! I appreciate it.

  • nice bike! Just a few advices, go to xlforums and research 883/1200 conversion. You can get from NHRS a 883/1200 kit for around 500$ plus a power commander 300, that would have yield around 70 to 75hp. It is regarded pointless to mod/tune a 883 compare to the price of doing a simple 1200 conversion at a local perforamcne non harley shop.

  • thanks.. yeah, the sound totally changed with the pipes and breather. The Pipes, Breather, SE Race Tuner and required tuning time on the dyno was about $1700

  • Wow, the sound was really improved by those vance and hines, Im impressed by how much it changed! Im heading into the dealership next week to get one :) How much did it cost you to get those goodies?
