Very good video and I love the song. Barry Oakley (Allman Bros - Mountain Jam live solo) and Jon Camp (Renaissance - Ashes are Burning solo) are up there.
perhaps this list is missing some bass players but the best list I found, cliff and Harris are good, I like the style of Harris, but not enough to get into the best in the world.
perhaps this list is missing some bass players but the best list I found, cliff and Harris are good, I like the style of Harris, but not enough to get into the best in the world.
@picarochiloso Yeah plus John Entwistle was not only playing their style of Bass when theyr were still shitting their diapers but he also invented it at the same time.
you should appreciate the good art! nobody compares to anyone, much less a gene .... then I'll say that as been playing the bass ten years and play to be cliff burton!
@kriss894 I don't suck and I'd like to see you explain how I suck. I'll explain why Gene sucks, he can barely solo, most of his basslines just copy the guitarist he rarely starts a song with a bassline he wrote from scratch, I'm also pretty sure he can't play with his fingers at all. Cliff Burton is quit nasty, but if I went up in a Bass duel against Gene, I think I would win. Gene simmons is proabably the worst Bassist in rock history. Either him or the guy from AC/DC.
@CJbass420 I think if Gene was a bad bass player, had not madea good step in the history of rock. But Gene is a legend!! besides he is not one of the best musicians, but a good businessman and an excellent manager ...... if you do not like kiss does not matter, because I and thousands of thousands of people fascinated us! oh and thanks for your comments!
@kriss894 Exactly he's a BUSINESS man thats the only reason they took off, they wrote simple cathy tunes with no passion in them and dressed up to get peoples attention! Musically he and the others aren't very talented. Business and music should never go together, Music is an art and when you make it a business you have leaches like gene usurping it for money, and that is why music is dying, everyone only cares about getting rich and not the art they're creating.
@CJbass420 # 1 KISS is not the most talented musicians, is a registered trademark in the world of rock, which generates millions of dollars annually, that everybody knows. but we all love money! currently most metal bands do the same as kiss, even as it is not uncommon to see your photos in People magazine, we all have to survive one way and so do they!
@CJbass420 # 2 So do not tell me that KISS offends the art of good music, or that are in the world of rock just for the money, as the music also has to be paid. KISS and any band that is attached to this type of marketing all is forgiven when you get on the scenery, and sing these great hymns making you feel like a child or a teenager filling you with life and happiness. That my friend has no price!
@kriss894 Yeah everyone likes money, but they care more about the money than the art. Thats when it becomes problem, even Ace Frehely says Gene and Paul care mostly about the money which is part of why he can't jam with them anymore. They're money grubbing scumbags and Gene Simmons ios no where near being one of the best bassist of all time and now you've admitted it, which is what this whole convo was about!
@CJbass420 No problem! each person has a different opinion about metal and rock, and also each person has a different opinion about KISS. Many people who are inside or outside the heavy metal hate GENE SIMMONS. But too many people love it. You tell me I'm stupid for loving him, but there are more stupid people who love lady gaga
@kriss894 I never said you were stupid for loving him, I simply stated he's no where near being one of the best bassists of all time. As for Lady Gaga I don't think people are stupid for loving her, they just have a different taste in msuic then me. My only problem with Gaga is that she like Simmons cares more about the money then the art, did you know she originally intended to be a rock singer? She went to hip-hop because there was more money in it.
@CJbass420 ok no problem .. I know at one point it seemed stupid just think about gene simmons and kiss .... because your opinion will not change at all the love we feel the kiss armys. There is good music in the world and kiss a part of it. So you better change our conversation. that we are metalheads and we are not separated by small differences ... but we must unite for the good music and good metal
@CJbass420 ok I already knew that kiss is hard rock ... what's metalhead was just an expression. besides all the rock is family: the heavy metal, hard rock, trash and all that is the same spirit.
The best players are the one's in bands like Flea, Cliff Burton (R.I.P), Tim Commerford (RATM), Geddy Lee My Top 10 are : 1. Flea 2. Duff McKagan 3. Tim Commerford 4. Cliff Burton 5. Jared Followill (Kings Of Leon) 6. Chris Wolstenholme 7. John Entwistle 8. John Deacon 9. Krist Novoselic 10.John Paul Jones
Whose world is this? How can you leave James Jamerson and Jack Bruce Out (unless I missed them, but I'm not watching it again)? How about Mingus, Ray Brown, Rufus Reid, Bob Cranshaw, Alphonso Johnson, or Ron Carter, to name a few? Ditto Entwistel. I heard Miroslav Vitous is pretty good too, and Berry Oakley and Allen Woody didn't suck either.
Hold da fuck up, you got overrated ass Paul McCartney, but no Louis Johnson,Bootsy Collins,Rick James,Verdine White,Marc Adams,Nathanial Watts,Marvin Isley, & the greatest bassist that ever played "JAMES JAMERSON" ?! 1 day you all will see!
Victor Wooten next to last????? Are you serious? Im not a jazz guy but come on? Hes amazing! You have Gene Simmons, duff mckagan, ahead of him? i chuckle in dismay! Ryno from Mudvayne is way better than those guys & he's not even on the list! Give Vic some cred, geez!
yea Louis Johnson was overlooked, although I dig Entwistle, he's a great player but not in the same MOJO. Cliff Burton (LOL), come on now get real. Another one that should in on the list is Brian Bromberg. A true master, not only electric bass, but stand up, and midi bass synth.
How come everyone is admiring Cliff Burton? Type "fpe" in the search window and listen to As Blood Runs Black and u will hear a bassist least as good as Cliff.

In my opinion Mc Cartney is not a great bassist, but a great composer. By the way I would add Ray Shulman of Gentle Giant. Anyway, it´s always hard to say who´s the best, is a subjective matter.
En mi opinión, Mc Cartney no es un gran bajista sino un gran compositor. Por cierto yo agregaría a Ray Shulman de Gentle Giant. En fin, es difícil decir quién es el mejor, es un asunto subjetivo.

Burton and Harris are great for what they do but overall, nothing really special or unique. There are many bassists within their own genre who are far superior.
@mAuIsDiSc respectfully disagree. Burton, not to be underrated because of his genre, brought classical and wailing blues to the metal bass. and not emptily....just hitting notes...either. Burton was very unique.
@mcul2112 Oh there are some great bassists in the thrash metal genre, i would never make a statement against thrash bassists, but my point was there are many that smoke Cliff like a cheap cigarette even within his own genre, he was far from the best. He is always picked as the default bassist for thrash when there were many who put a lot more time, energy, heart and technique into it. That's always been my opinion anyway.
@mAuIsDiSc i think people point to him because he put in plenty of time and technique, did it a long time ago, and actually did way more with it. he wasn't a billy sheehan or whatever type technique note-wanker. he played really really good music unique to him. i think that's what resonates the most. but there is also the blind fannage...no doubt. but i think musically, he was head and shoulders. (i respect Harris, but never thought that much of him.)
I don't know why people keep saying "cliff?" because he was no where near these guys. Best bass players in the world is something he didn't achieve, sadly.
nice you have clark, geddy lee,and paul mac,i just wish the pic had his hofner violin bass on,i mean hes used it all the way through(and lol ive got a 1963 one as well)
