i have a catahoula deaf dog named deafy and he is soo cute and he dosent bite hes the perfect deaf dog when i put my hand in his mouth he pushes my hand away that shows he doesent bite hes like 8 months old
Main thing to remember about a Catahoula is that they are a very intelligent hound. They need to be challenged both mentally(diverse training) and physically(long runs or even longer walks) Provide these 2 things and you'll have THE best dog ever
We are about to adopt a 2 1/2 year old female Catahoula with an extremely sweet temperment. Can anyone tell me if there are any health conditions specific to this breed? She currently has a slight skin rash but I believe it is only related to the fact that she gave birth to 7 puppies several weeks ago and is simply undernourished right now. Anyone else have a skin rash issue?
@journeyexpress it depends on it's genetics i am the grandaughter of a catahoula breeder and i will take offer the kennel when i get old enough so from my experiance the dogs can somtimes experience blindness and deffness and when the get around 10-11 years of age tumors can be a posibillity
We have two catahoulas and both are trained therapy dogs for children. They are very loving and protective of small children. But you do have to work with them as they are very social dogs and require a lot of attention. Also very smart and can get into trouble entertaining themselves if you don't work with them. I just love them and plan on getting two more.
What began as the filming of an ordinary day in September of 2001 turns out to be the most complete chronicle of 9/11 attacks. New 9/11 movie on dvd: 'Tuesday Morning in September' 2011 For more information about how to get the dvd, please go to the channel that posted this. (special for veterans and spouses active and reserve - to be found-in radio interviews about the chronicle posted on blog, and facebook) I love Catahoulas; that's my favorite breed. Silent hunter..super-intelligent; devoted
Awesome video! We are on are third Catahoula and love them to death! Extremely intelligent and our oldest one knows what we are going to do before we do. Need lots of exercise and attention; very people oriented and intuitive. Out first was at least four before he stopped being a nut-job and destroying our house. Suddenly a different dog that everyone admires and comments on...
We have two currently and a Bengal cat that rules the house.
@1tical0@1tical0 It depends on where you live, and what sort of relationship you want with the dog; hunting, companionship, so on. It sounds like you want to get into agility courses, and these dogs would be ideal. There are links you can 'Google' to show you how to build an agility course without breaking the bank. Try "Googling" catahoularescue. If you can rescue a dog, I think it's the least we can do for the creatures. If not, there are breeders all over the place.
@TheGamer1131 My catahoula looks just like the very first picture and he is absolutely wonderful. I saved him from a shelter when he was 3 months old for my daughter who was almost 2. They play wonderfully together now that he is a year old. He was really hyper as a puppy but that is to be expected. He is a little protective of me especially when it is just us going for a walk. He gets along with all of my other animals(cat, chinchilla). I <3 him so much!!
@TheGamer1131 they can get pretty rough and crazy, but they do like to socialize. just make sure you dont put them alone with a small, vulnerable dog.
@TheGamer1131 My Catahoula loves to play, but she plays rough. It comes with the breed. They will do fine with strange dogs (ie: in the dog park) until they are about two...then, as the breed standard states, it's like someone throws a switch and they become an adult. Adult Catahoulas are dog aggressive. Personally, I think they aren't, it's just that they are aggressive players bred to corral wild boar, so they are in-your-face dogs. Most other dogs don't like that and will fight.
@TheGamer1131 As TubaGlider2 said, it depends upon how you raise and train them, or any dog for that matter. I think they are great. I have an older one and a new pup, I don't hunt and I live in a suburb, and they fit right in. They have a definite personality, they are protective but not aggressive. They learn easily and live to please you. My older one, Chloe, took right over as though she were Lucky's mother. I would bet that the pup has learned more from Chloe than she has from me.
@TheGamer1131 We have 2 in the house, along with a 3 year old and many younger kids that come to visit. Both dogs are great with kids, especially infants and toddlers. With other dogs it's very circumstantial. 1 was socialized the other wasn't, however they both can either be very aggressive or very passive. I think they make great family pets, but they can be rowdy at times. Which isn't always a bad thing.
@TheGamer1131 My catahoula plays with my 3 year old just fine... The dog can be a little rough with my lab but does great with my son.. although he does scratch him sometimes
@TheGamer1131 They are very good with other dogs and are not aggressive in the least bit as long as you teach them how to be from the very beginning. If you don't show them the way, they very easily find their own way. They are very independent, and require a lot of time. If you can't spend more of your time with the dog than away from it then don't bother getting one.
@TheGamer1131 My dog loves people and other dogs outside of our home. When were inside all it does is bark at any newcomer that comes inside. Nonstop I swear its driving me nuts. Great loyal loving dog. Kind of annoying.
@TheGamer1131 Our rescued Catahoula puppy loves to play and is excellent with our other dog, three cats, and our nine-year old daughter. She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle and give kisses. Catahoulas are very intelligent, alert and quick to learn, but you absolutely must spend time training them. They are active dogs and need exercise, but ours does fine in our suburban neighborhood. If you decide to get one, there are many purebred and mixed Catahoulas that need homes. Check Petfinder
Awwwww love the pics we have a catahoula called meisha and she is such a cool dog. The kids love her cept when she chews up their toys but oh so loyal. Love these dogs to bits!!!
CLDs are wonderful dogs with the right owners... They need exercised, socialized, and trained otherwise they can be very stubborn and sometimes aggressive with unfamiliar people. They were bred to be work dogs and excel in hog hunting. It's not a breed to be taken lightly, they aren't for everybody.
THESE ARE THE BEST DOGS EVER I DOG SIT FOR MY NEIGHBOR WHO HAVE ONE AND WE WENT FOR A WALK TO THE RIVER AND THERE WAS A BEAR THERE AND HE TURNED AND WENT THE OTHER WAY SO I FOLLOWED HE SAVED MY LIFE I REALLY WANT A CATAHOULA
@Court22132 yeah sheep doggin thats cool i use my cats for cow herd n and pig slammin haha i like the border collies as well i had and australian sheppard once but he turned out to be mean stick to my glass eyed perfectos
Thanks for posting these pictures. I love 'em all. A Catahoula is a mix by definition. Somehow the right dogs and wolves got together, and apparently that bloodline is pretty dominant. I think that they are more than a breed, they are a relationship, a partnership and a feeling of mutual respect. It takes a person who has gotten to know Catahoulas to bring out the best in them, just as they will bring out the best in people.
The sort of person you are begets the sort of dog they come to be.
@BREADSCATAHOULAS wow 6 catahoulas i want to b u i struggled for literily 3 years nerly 4 to get one dog i still hav her but i wud like a frend for her to keep her company i luv her to bitz i started cryin wit happyness wen mom and dad finally got me a dog shes a lakeland terrier called Lucy <3 =)
There was a pure bred catahoula that was a stray that wound up at the Humane Society that I volunteer at. She was so beautiful and just got adopted yesterday:)
awww im sad i used to have a catahoula with an eye patch a spot on his back and tail and he was all white and his spots were black his name was dook and we had him for a long time then he got stolen when we asked somone to take care of him the guy sold him to his mother and got cash i realy realy miss him i used to ride on his back when i was 3 and now im 11 good times oh dook.
@Court22132 He's 3-4 months old, all black and dark gray. One of the volunteers at the shelter ranted and raved how Catahoulas have to much energy and Thumper was already returned by one family. ;(
I'm doing that riight now. :P ...dogs are the one thing for which I'll always be passionate..the pup at 1:37 looks like it could have been her, she's always showing the submissive "half moon" whites of her eyes
An odd choice of song for this video....
