The lyric change to "Everything looks better in black and white" foreshadows the moment when mama did take his Kodachrome away years after this performance. Many former Kodachrome diehards are now reacquainting themselves with B&W film.
WHY DO MUSICIANS HAVE TO FUCK UP THERE OWN SONGS??????? THE VERSION THAT MADE IT A BIG EFFIN HIT, IS PROLLY THE VERSION EVERYONE WANTS TO HEAR!!!!!!! YA THINK!!!!!!! BOB DYLAN IS NOTORIOUS FOR THAT AS WELL!!!
if this was the original version it would never have been played on the radio. One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists turned into a horrible mess, yech
C'mon people - in America we pronounce it Nai-Kahn, but in Japan it would be pronounced Nee-Cone (like Ice Cream Cone). He's switching it up for the home audience.

This is a really bad version of this song. I think someone is playing out of key the whole time.At 1:45 the piano player hits the wrong chord entirely and Simon looks over and smiles, then the guy misses it again. Paul is trying to compensate for the band by messing with hesitations in the lyrics, it isn't working. Plus how many people are in this band? Too many in my opinion. That white guy on percussion IS pretty damn funny. The bass player is laying it down.
@kbodonne Nice observation, man. But i think the piano player, yeah, probably he hits a wrong chord. But you know? In my opinion i think that chord produces a nice tension to be resolved in the next beat. I LOVE THIS VERSION, is quite similar to the "Concert in The Park" version, PLUS that bass arrangement at 1:28 . Armand Sabal Lecco RULES! ;D
This is a really bad version of this song. It sounds like someone is playing the song out of key, maybe a guitar player. I think a lot of people, save for the bass player, were missing chord changes at this show. Simon seems to be trying to compensate for the quality with hesitations on the lyrics, but it isn't helping. Plus how many people are in this band? Too many.
This is a really bad version of this song, it sounds like some is playing out of key the entire time. Simon seems to be trying to make up for with hesitations on the lyrics and changing the pronunciation of Nikon, but it doesn't help.
usually I like it when artists change up the way they sing certain songs live, but this one isn't included in that exception.......the album version is better in my opinion
Maybe it's a tribute to Japanese fans, but he has Hungarian parents, and in Hungary it is also pronounced Ni-kon, so maybe if his mother did want to take it away, it was the pronunciation she would have understood:)
too ethnic??????????? i saw this tour...and out of the 50 or so concerts i've been in my life, this one was THE BEST........because of the band as much as pauls songs
I know it sounds bad, but I've got to be honest. Out of all the re-dos by the original artists I just don't dig this sound. I think he was letting himself be influenced by too many black musicians. Either that or his short man syndrome was doing something off the wall to him.
I know, he is a jack ass for ruining this song, but I still love Paul Simon on wax. I just found a record at the flea market with him and Art called "Tom and Jerry". One of their first recordings. They sounded a lot like the Everly Brothers then.
Come to think of it, are these not the same musicians he played with on "Graceland". That explains why he changed the sound then! My bad. He was using his songs to promote their sound. I thought I noticed him slipping up @ 2:11
The telling thing happens at at 2:04 into this recording, he changed the lyrics to "everything looks better in black & white," which is absolutely true. Not as realistic as color but better.
Yes, a period of significance in photography, especially in photo slide genre, where colors and forms are almost real and 3-dimensional is closing its doors. Thanks to George Eastman, with Kodak, photo and cinematography
came to as what they are with the advance of the digital tech. This Paul Simon song is a fitting tribute, indeed.
As someone who has always enjoyed processing my own slides, I'm even more distraught that they're taking my Ektachrome away. But I guess it's inevitable.
Sometimes these live performances can mess about with a track too much.
This is a fabulous track by a fantastic musician/singer but this version is awful. The original is an amazing track and Simon is such a talent but I hate this. Give me the original every time.
Have to agree with you Luke. I love Paul, but for me this version takes away from the way the original. It was simple, and just had a certain feel to it that gets lost in this version....for me anyway
Used to be that live musicians would change things all the time; from lyric to lyric, line to line, even feel and tempo, nothing was sacred. Now we have recordings that people listen to over and over, get used to, internalize; this is good for record producers, and may or may not pay the musician well, but it's terrible for a live performer. It's not fair that you've heard Kodachrome 8,000,000 times before this show. Your jury is biased, your judgement shallow. Get out of your box!
It's Paul's song and he can do whatever he likes with it - including ruin it, which he does in this performance. But, of course, that's just my opinion.
i saw him live a year or two ago. he messed with every song and made them more shitty then they needed to be. not only that but he was 45 minutes late getting on stage. worst show ever
@mikelheron20 Just going through my inbox.... You wrote a pretty off-topic reply. Care to try again? To the point: I put no one straight, just tried to crack the mo(u)ld a bit. I was abrasive, but surely not fascist.

As much as I like this song and Paul Simon, this version is GARBAGE. Nothing like completely butchering a classic.
