I liked the realism of your offering. I could 'hear' the room and, I think many people (listening) were auto-filling any sonic gaps left out while they smiled. Thanks
"these sessions catch Sarah Vaughan at her magnificent best. Classic standard or novelty tune, she had full command of the vocal art" Sarah Vaughan – vocals, Quincy Jones – arranger, conductor, Zoot Sims – saxophone, Ronnell Bright – piano, Richard Davis – double bass, Pierre Michelot, Kenny Clarke – drums Vaughan and Violins is a 1959 studio album by Sarah Vaughan, orchestrated and conducted by Quincy Jones.
@pinarellospeedracer Hi I love it when you guys in the know catch me. I did have a quality cartridge that was damaged, and this was an emergency replacement.until I decide on another cartridge. I am going to take your suggestion and check out that Ortofon 2M blue. A guy locally had an Ortofon moving coil MCA-76 that I was considering. I have an Ortofon 030 in the Dual turntable featured in my other videos. The B&O turntable has an MMC-5, made by Ortofon. They are great cartridges
Vaughan and Violins might be one of the greatest love record ever! I just ordered my original Stereo version LP on Ebay, can't wait to play it on my Conrad-Johnson system!
@Dorkdolph Hi Dorkdolph LOL!! I never thought I would get a comment on the phone. There are actually two of the rotary dial phones. This one by the stereo and there is a white 1957 phone on the desk. I have touch tone phones, but I hate their electronics rings and have them shut off I have the 1950's phones hooked up for the classic real bell sound, and both phones still work great.
@maynardcat - Wow, that's a great idea! I think I'm going to try and hunt down a rotary phone to use the same way. I've always hated the electronic rings on the new phones. A real bell would be so nice.
@VictorEmanuell when i first heard this song i thought it was ella singing it....then, i listen to some parts i've never ever heard ella doing.....it was such a bad thing to confuse them!!!! i'm in love with ella, but this woman really owns this song.
Great recording, no scratchy sounds at all. Johnny Mathis said he first heard this sung by Sarah, her recording is great. It's my favorite song in the world and I prefer to hear it sung by Johnny, Sarah puts her inprint on it, thanks for the upload.
Hello again, Maynard. Some McIntosh followers doesn't like triode and other tubes than KT88, but I've posted a Manley amp video "EL34 Manley Snapper..." and your comments will be very appreciated.
Wake up to "chemtrails". Search for it and "Dont talk about the weather". There's a secret aerosol spraying program going on worldwide. We're all affected. I filmed it myself! Tell others. The world needs you. Good luck, everybody
People don't realize that all these so-call digitally remastered songs are derived from old technology like records and tapes. Also, that the remaster is can not sound better that the original, but only just as good - at best !
That is very true, and sometimes I have been disappointed in some digital remasters and preferd the original. some warmth and quality of the original recording is sometimes lost.
That wonderful old technology. In my humble opinion, today's jsunk doesn't match. And if you want to get something comparable, you'd have to spend a considerable amount.
@jamesmaseobrown Simply not true. Any 10 year old has equipment capable of as good. I love old LP's and the equipment to play them, but I don't kid myself that the sound quality is better than CD's. It just ain't so.
a vocal performance so wonderful it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time. i can count the amount of songs that do that on one hand.
I first heard this in 1959 while at an all-night club in London. It was on the flip-side of her hit "Broken Hearted Melody". I much later heard the definitive Johnny Mathis version which was good too, but didn't think it could hold a candle to Sarah's. Johnny's is the one they always play on the radio -- you seldom hear Sarah's. I don't know which recording came out first. Thank God for YouTube.
Some critics have accused her of showing off at the expense of taste in her versions of Misty. Even if that were true, so what. Musicians do it and get plaudits for it.
when i hear this version of misty.i think of a rainy night in new york city in the 1960s.i dont why i just do. or driving over the 59th st bridge, on a rainy night- with all the neon lights on.
Wow! In 1982, I inherited a Luxman turntable, am., & tuner (w/ a set of KEF 3-way speakers) from my cousin,a Mentor who'd died of sickle-cell anemia. My Mother thought that I was too young to appreciate/care for the unit, and gave it to my older brother... who abused it gratuitously in his bachelor pad. After he married, his wife stowed it in the garage and eventually gave it away to another Party Animal relative. They thought I was acting 'in bad taste' when I requested it be returned.SAD.
You should have been allowed to keep the stereo, after all you were the person that your cousin gave it to, as he probably knew you would appreciate and take care of it. You were not acting in bad taste, they were, you were just trying to retrieve what was rightfully yours in the first place.
I know what you mean Schmedley, family are loozers my brother threw out Apogee speakers cause he "thouhjt I didn't want them". Loozer anyway, NICE system quiet too! Question for MAYNARDCAT what kind of carttridge is that and have you checked whether or not your system is in phase? There is a cheap devise you pyrchase from radioshack to mafe sure your plugs are grounded and check all you red and black cables are in their correct red and black places. THANK YOU for this post
Thanks for the nice comment, and no I am not familiar with the version with the male singer. I have a couple of other versions, Johnny Mathis and some instrumental. This is also one of my all time favorites.
Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you soooo much !!! I used to have an album with this track but I had to leave t behind when I left my husband. It´s part of who I am and it was gone. I haven´t been able to find the same album to buy or a different one with this track. I also had another album which had Misty sang live and a male singer joined Sarah. Do you know this version ??? It´s beautiful !!! It means a lot to me...
I always loved those old Luxman tables.
