I was thinking about it the other day when i heard something on a mises video about how democracy is very ill defined. Obviously we don't want 100% democracy because that would be mob rule. But we don't want 0% democracy because that would be receivership. So yes, a republic does have democratic qualities, because the representatives are popularly elected. However I think the misunderstanding of democracy has done us a lot of harm. We've completely ignored the rule of law part of a republic
that is to say that yes, we do want democraticly elected representatives, but they shouldn't be able to do anything they want. The constitution is supposed to limit legislation, but we've pretty much thrown that out the window. If you think about it the original intention was for them to regulate nearly nothing. This is the first English show I found that surpasses Steward and Colbert; where the interviewer actually isn't completely clueless and where the goal seems to be a healthy informative discussion.
This is what I call entertainment and hope it also reaches a younger audience.

I think that Vidal was refering to the massive amounts of crap the studios put out these days rather that the complete lack of a thinking person's film. After all, Vidal did write screenplays (as well as pulp fiction). Gore Vidal is one damn fascinating man.

I didn't know he was in that film. That's one I haven't seen. He was not so obviously being sarcastic. He's just a little too cynical for me. And if you look at his older predictions from back in the 60's, none of that came true. And his support for Mcarthy. He's been saying that the sun won't come up tomorrow for 60 years. That being said, I love his command of the English language, he's very funny and no doubt very smart. but a little bit disconnected from the real world.

As a foreigner I'm not really the target audience so I guess my opinion doesn't count... however after watching a couple of these "The Hour" interviews I gotta say that I'm positively surprised.
This is the first English show I found that surpasses Steward and Colbert; where the interviewer actually isn't completely clueless and where the goal seems to be a healthy informative discussion.
This is what I call entertainment and hope it also reaches a younger audience.
