Yep that audience is clueless, She could have got up there and sung merry had a little lam and they would have cheered! I give her full points for courage however, to get up there and sing a jazz standard that was owned by Ella Fitzgerald! not that the audience would even no who Ella Fitzgerald is anyway.
Ella didn't write the song. She actually did this wonderfully. It's absurd to suggest that one shouldn't try to perform a standard because a great has already done it.
@dannyinternetz I never said Ella "wrote" the song - I said she "owned" the song. And I did not say "one shouldn't try to perform a standard because a great has already done it" by that logic no person could ever perform a standard!

Natalie has an exceptionally clean vocal quality and great intonation (better than my expertly set up guitars O-o ) I like the tempo changes, which otherwise would be abrupt, but in her style she pulls it off!
Natalie is a great singer- too bad the ending was rushed and that change of tempo just before the final notes didn't seem to work. She should have just exploded at the end at the same upbeat pace. But she has great potential as a Big Band/jazz singer...Jim, USA

She did all of that, just to end the song in a pitiful, ameteurish, fall. I'm disappointed (not in the entire performance, just in her as a musician). THE END OF THE SONG IS NOT ANY LESS IMPORTANT THAN THE SCAT SECTION, NATALIE!
Good job! I've heard and played a lot of music in my 70 years and I think she's good. She has the "chops" and she knows how to sell the song. She'll get better and better in the coming years. Go Natalie, go girl.
that was great until she seriously blew the ending. i was super impressed until then. then it was just shit. too bad to end such a good performance like that...
Actually, I think Natalie is doing more of a Dianne Reeves in this performance. However, you are correct, in that Ms. Ella started this beautiful mess. :-) May God continue to hold her in his arms.
She can sing, for sure. Before the scat I wasn't sure she could pretend to be a jazz singer. Afterwards, I still think she's a pop singer who did well on a jazz song. Tempo, tempo... I'll listen to more of her and see if I change my mind.
Mmmm, yeah I'm not to sure about the scat bit either, it works ok but leave that to the likes of Ella. I think her voice suits the Big Band swing style ( its not Jazz is it really ). I like it better than the pop stuff.. I think shes got a great voice though..
that was terrible
