Dude i just smile watchin you. I wanted to say ive been sein a therapist now for a few weeks and i decided to do do ACT Therapy not CBT. Its not a fight, like fighting for peace doesnt work, to make peace we need to make peace you see. Anyway if you google actmindfully oR Acceptance therapy you will see. Its buddhist in nature and man you are so slow and that i think it will be a perfect match:0 Awoooo
Hey everyone, regarding bibliotherapy (i.e. book reading and self help on these sorts of issues), check out Dr. Aarron Beck's book (this is the dude who developed CBT decades ago). "Anxiety Disorders and Phobias… " Brilliant.
Very insightful and when you decided to do CBT with a therapist, you'll know the theoretical side, as well as some practical tools to use.
I can't think of anything worse to do for someone with sa than a job interview.. I dread the time I have one! And your job too, man that must be a nightmare! I can relate to you, I find it hard to answer the phone too.
I know how you feel. This probably won't help but...You're very attractive and speak intelligently too so when you start to worry about people looking at you or what people are thinking about you, that's probably it.
Thank you for this video! I'm unemployed for more than a year and I was never sure about what to say to employer asking "why" so long without working... i got some ideas from you..I hate lying, so i would say i had been ill or family issues... and of course i never thought about speaking i feel uncomfortable with people, i think they would think i was weird and incapable of performing the tasks required... That was helpful! Thanks!
Where have you been?!? Why can't I message you? You must have a new girlfriend? I know you have been signing in, I saw it! Make my day and respond to me!
Pills, therapy, books about the subconcious mind etc you name it. In my experience I can truly testify that only The Living GOD has healed me. Medications from doctors helped me a little and it was temporary. God's healing power is ETERNAL! Now Im not an antidepressant pill dependent. The cure for fear is FAITH! Fear limits you. FAITH ENABLES YOU! People, THE ALMIGHTY GOD IS YOUR ONLY HOPE. READ THE WORD OF GOD, HAVE FAITH AND OBEY! God loves you and He wants you to LET HIM...
Iam happy you're making progress mate; I can def relate and have found a lot of support through strong people like your self expressing them selves honestly. I recommend spirituality; Research Zen Buddhism it really helped me in many ways; in SA, life and friends.
Did you get the job? You do such a great job sharing yourself and your feelings on the video. I hope they saw all of your good qualities and wanted to hire you. Keep us posted. Best to you!
just wanted to wish you the best of luck, if you got the job, I am sure it will be the best opportunity for you to confront with your SA, keep on keeping on.
Two turtles go camping and pack a cooler with sandwiches and beer. After three days of walking, they arrive at a great spot, but they've forgotten a bottle opener. The first turns to the second and says, "You've gotta go back and get the opener or else we've got no beer.
"No way," says the second turtle. "By the time I get back, you'll have eaten all the food." "I promise I won't," replies the first. "Just hurry."
(...cont) Nine full days pass and still no sign of the second turtle. Finally, the other digs into the sandwiches. The second turtle pops out from behind a rock and yells, "I knew it! I'm not fucking going!"
Random, but I thought it was funny. LOL It reminds me of myself and the torture I go thru being indecisive about whether I should go out or not, and eventually I find some excuse and end up saying "I'm not fucking going" LOL...fudge. Anywho, you're doing great Mark, keep it up!!!
For me the job aspect of things is really what gets the nerves just overflowing. I suppose its because in terms of living life...via living no life...by just hanging at home and keeping myself social with my family and nothing besides that, its an unsastifying way to live but for me personally its a much better route to take than dealing with the pressure of living a standard life.
Getting job though obviously brakes that routine up soo thats defo gonna be my toughest challenge to overcome.
Housebound, no friends only family, and the thought of a job or going back to college just pushes my anxiety to an unbearable level. Not a life at all, just an existence. But a small proportion of hope keeps me going. Got to stay strong.
that's true i myself somehow can relate to you guys, but like u said you just goota keep moving forward and i guarantee you everything will work out :D
Hey Mark..good luck with the job outcome! I think you were right not to mention the SA as it does go against you in the long run. They should hire you on your strengths and not your weaknesses. ;-)
hey man, I hope you get the job!! Question-when you get nervous do you get really sweaty hands (cold & clammy)? I feel I can hide my anxiety fairly well at times but because my heart beats so fast my hands get REALLY sweaty and I constantly have to shake hands with people and I am so self concious about having a WET hand shake cause obviously that tells people that I'm anxious right away and people have made comments about it....soooo embarrasing!! I feel helpless though :(
what is really going to see you is your suppossed confidence---you only need to fool them, not yourself. its a little act. you could definitely pull it off with your appearance and your communication skills. they know everyone is nervous on an interview, so let them just think its your normal interview fear---no other explanations are needed. its already understood by interviewers. maybe lift weights the night before & the morning of the interview a bit to calm the anxiety too. hope you get
Good choice for not telling them---any medical condition should never be told to an employer--*maybe human resources when you take sick days, but never on an interview. they may seem understanding, but...they will not probably consider you for the job. what do you tell them the reason is for why you havent worked for 3 years. i hate interviews and they always ask why the break in employment (3 months, 6 months, etc.)? the questions feel like a conniving interrogation. but you got it right,,,
Talking on the phone is most of the time a breeze for me, i still have anxiety... but i never take anything personally if i think i sounded bad. Friends still talk to my the next day without mentioning anything about any phone conversations, same with people at work. In fact if i mispronounce a word on the PA, they laugh at it, lol its no big deal. Now job interviews are something i approach with a positive attitude, saying cheesy but true words about yourself is fine, it wont leave that room.
You are sooooooooo right on the challenge thingy!...SA sufferers must challenge themselves every day in some way...It's good self-therapy. BTW, nice tie...
Well done dude, your videos are really inspirational. Ive been working as a tech support person at a call centre now for 10 weeks, and suffer SA so I know what your feeling, I still feel like im "new" at the job, but my anxiety has slowly improved while being there. Dont think you have to become confident overnight in the job, just aim for progress, take it slow.
Good luck on the interview. Don't worry about actually getting the job... the first proper job I had was at a call centre for the welfare office. The anxiety was really bad the entire time (lasted 8 weeks), but now I'm working in a different kind of call centre (going on 8 months now) and it's been a place where I have made a lot of breakthroughs with my SA. Try to treat this whole thing as an opportunity to improve.
you should stop over thinking every situation that comes to you, little by little you will start to loose the stress you are currently getting before social meetings
Telling an employer about SA can be a terrifying thing, but can also be extremely positive. Employers are interested in people who are going to stay around and are honest. Telling somebody about your SA signifies your in for the long-haul and also gives a far more intimate honesty than other people can give. Employers are also very keen to see hard working people and they know if someone is overcoming SA then they must be extremely hard working.
Yes I'm concerned about this question also. What have I been doing while out of work . Can i ask you what reason you actually said to them if not that you've been dealing with SA ?
I think you're right in the assumption that a daily exposure on such a job will make it quite faster with the progress. oh and good luck , fingers crossed !
I told them a kind of truth...that I was learning web development and working on a web site and then doing a college course. I did do those things, but it wasnt full time....in fact most of the time I was sitting in my room feeling sorry for myself :P
What have I been doing while out of work or however the question is phrased is probably one of, if not the, biggest thing I'm concerned about.
There's a few places I'm going to look into and one I know I'm going to apply for. That one is a part time job working at night that I'd like to have. It's not exactly what I majored in, but at the moment (and all things considered), I'll be more than happy to take it until I'm able to do more.
Good work getting through. When will you know anything?
Yeah I was really worried about that question too. I was tempted to tell them the truth and say I was dealing with SA, but I have a feeling that would have been a bad idea.
Working at night, that sounds good. No people around :)
I'll know next week what the outcome was. Fingers crossed!
