Great lesson, Larry! I'm 66, saw The Beatles in Hamburg, Germany in '62 when I was in the U.S. Navy, then again in '63 in Liverpool. You're right about the simple chord progressions, and great sounds coming from them long before all the studio gizmoes they use today. Goerge Harrison was a genius when it came to writing solo riffs, etc. Oh...and...my last name is McCartney. And...I'm left handed. Go figure. :D)
thx 4 the help dude, we, the silent majority, learn and move on quietly, sometimes we forget to rate or leave a comment, but we're here and appreciate all the masters, ignore the turds and keep passing on the knowledge.
Thanks for the tips, very helpful. Don't worry about morons and their lame comments. I know I can speak for fellow new (and learning) players and thank you for your time and efforts. cheers.
@joeswan59 go fuck yourself. You can't find anything else to do...maybe you should get a job or something, assuming you are capable of holding a job instead of wanking yourself.
Hey Larry!!! It took me 30 yrs to learn the little solo of Ticket to Ride! Thans a bunch dude! You're great! I'll try hard and go for the Day Tripper solo!!!
Just wanted to say also that although what you say is true about The Beatles' lead parts not being difficult to play technically, they are almost all highly memorable, and like mini-compositions in their own right. That's a skill/creative ability which most technical wizzards don't possess.
you were realy good! you were also very intersting to listin to. oh almost forgot you had a great voice. wish i could play like you but thats how it goes sometimes i guess :). thanks again
the second part to the solo 4 day tripper when you put you finger on the b strin at the 12 fret is it the same notes as in the first part of the solo???
Obviously words is all YOU can produce as well because you have NOTHING posted on your profile...which probably means you are a typical no-talent youtube cruiser who only makes negative posts just to piss other people off at you because you have no concept of being a human being. Go back to the rock from which you crawled out from under and leave us real humans alone.
It doesn't appear that YOU play ANYTHING at all yourself, so why are you bitching at me? This is supposed to be an INSTRUCTIONAL "HOW TO PLAY IT" video which requires me to talk. Why don't you visit my video list and watch some of the other stuff I've done before you shoot off your mouth, DICK HEAD. Just remember, YOU will be an old man too someday...that is if your mouth doesn't get your ass killed first.
Hi, and you're welcome ;). I am glad this has helped you. I determine the key of the song from the original. I mostly play by ear and by watching the artists themselves play. These two songs weren't difficult to figure out by ear.
That's one way of doing it, yea. With me, I found that after I had played for a while I had developed the ability to recognize the sounds of particular guitar chords. Playing by ear involves a fair degree of trial & error until you are able to hear it and recognize it.
The Beatles early solos may be simple to play, but they're masterfully composed. I think that George's solos - as someone else said long ago, and as Jeff Beck said in an interview - are like little songs in themselves.
i used to play the keyboard / piono by ear and in music lessons in school told the teacher no need to read music and i hear it in my head and can play it - recorded, trumpet, saxophone, trombone kazoo i can get a tune out of everything but prefer just plain ol singing!! Thanks for the lesson i'll dust off my guitar and give it another go - only instrument i fail to master propperly by ear my gramdfather was exactly the same he could play the saw but not guitar.
i think ringo rocks yet he didn't get a lot of the credit macca the great john lennon george got the credit but ringo starr was and proberly still is the BEST drummer in the world
but now would you want ringo playing keyboards on one of your records? i'd much rather have paul play even though none of the beatles could read music
In all honesty, we really don't know the level of Ringo's expertise on the keyboards except that we know that he played the Hammond Organ on I'm Looking Through You, and the little piano jam he does with Paul in the movie Let It Be. He can probably play better than me...LOL...but that's no big feat in itself. LOL LC
Macca played the lead guitar bits on several Beatles songs in the studio. He was probably the most multi-talented musician of all of them...and I don't say that to offend anyone, it's just my opinion. LC
do you really though think the beatles wanted to be complex using being a jimi hendrix type of band? using all these complex techniques and effects? i dont think so, they were great musicians but i dont know if they were excellent, they could all play a variety of insturments accept maybe ringo
One of the beauties to the Beatles music is that it was NOT incredibly complex, yet straight-forward...that is until they began to confine themselves to the studio and began to utilize recording techniques which could never be replicated in a live setting...at least back then. I agree with you about the musicianship, I just feel Paul was the most tallented of all. Ringo plays keyboards by the way...LOL. LC
Paul was the best piano player of them all but on guitar he was just second best after George but still in front of John by far. Nice job man keep on playing!
actually in the beginning paul was much better than george, but he just decided to play bass because they didnt have one after. just listen to his killer riffs on songs like Rain or Drive my car...
I have never played the lead guitar bit on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. In fact, I've never played that song on guitar before, but I DO play it on piano.
Thanks for posting this lesson.
When you get a chance could you please explain something for me.
In the 'Ticket to Ride' riff after b10 bend b8 g9 slide b10 - b12 e10 do you play b10 g10 bend e10 and finally g12?
Cheers Brian

Ah I see, thanks.
Is there any trick? Like the first bass note of the song? I've heard before that you can find it out by that.

That's one way of doing it, yea. With me, I found that after I had played for a while I had developed the ability to recognize the sounds of particular guitar chords. Playing by ear involves a fair degree of trial & error until you are able to hear it and recognize it.
