the first serie hade the awsome opening, but Ova/ultimate hade the story well made. now with a small Nostalgia Episode coming up about before the Hellsing serie started is coming: ''Hellsing Dawn''

we will met Walter, Alucard and more known people (that died in Ultimate). both Hellsing Ultimate 8 and Hellsing Dawn episode 1 is now up and avalible to be seen, Hellsing Ultimate 9 is due to Early 2012 while we wait watch Hellsing Dawn(and its coming episodes).

The anime was a bit too fast paced.

And don't you dare think that I'm saying it needed more filler.

It was just moving along with everything so fast it forgot to explain some things is all. Like that Vatican assassin guy's resurrection ability. They hinted at some kind of sacrifice being made to have it, and that's all that was ever mentioned about it. Not how it even works or anything. They just completely forgot and moved on.

Still, as for the anime itself we can't really judge can we? No. The anime stopped production just a few months after it started, I think we can't really judge it because you can't have all the explanations in 13 episodes, can you? :)

@toxicitzi it has less explanation because the assumption, I think, is that anyone who watched it will have either watched the original (which of course had less explanation and had nothing but a small hint toward the end of Alucard's supposed past) or has probably read the manga already and wants to see the canon material animated this time around.

I don't know if you want to refuse that, but regardless of how much you deny it, that's how it is. Beyond that, comparing it doesn't just rely on completion - if they knew they weren't continuuing, they would have designed a conclusion finishing it. Hellsing 2003 explained very little, but then again, Ultimate hasn't been fully dubbed yet so I can't speak for 5-7.

You compare it based on - style, theme, pacing, animation, storyline, and character development.

They share the same theme. 2003 had a (I think) better style, this intro being a pure example. Ultimate obviously has better animation (2003 has better detail in static images, there's a difference, Ultimate moves a lot more). Ultimate has the more "epic" storyline compared to 2003 which was unfinished sadly. 2003 had more character development than 1-4 of Ultimate I've seen.

Just because it follows the manga canon doesn't make it automatically better which is the impression I seem to be getting from a majority of anime-viewing Youtubers who claim the new version is just better for being "canon". Hellsing-Anime had a nice touch to it, and while I like Ultimate better for the plot and characters, Hellsing-Anime had much better music.

It's just like FMA 2003, they led the story down the path they wanted. The ending served it's purpose, it's just annoying since there were so many unanswered questions: Who is Incognito, who hired Jun/Luke, and where did the Freak Chips come from? Being part of a different canon, it's possible another party was involved.

But hey, I even preferred Alucard's attitude in the older anime and the way he fights - instead of always going down to Lvl 1 he'd go to 2 and screw with people.

besides, no. I understood and watched perfectly the first 13 episodes of Hellsing 2001-2002 btw (end of 2003 was for the eng dub installment, not for the anime production.), the only thing wrong is that it couldn't continue the story so we could understand what exactly happened in that tower with Alucard v Incognito. that's a mystery for me as well, but again, it was cancelled / stopped / killed

Though one thing is always a pain in the ass in this series... when writers of the story try to put this pseudo-philosophical crap in Alucards mouth, so he starts to preach people at random moments, and then couple episodes later, acts exactly oposite his own ideals - what (if you pay attention to the series closely) makes him an enormous asshole that shows off with cheep slogans.

Del Anime (el intro actual pertenece a ese) son 13 capítulos. Buenos pero promedio porque no son apegados al manga y fueron muy "light" en cuanto a la sangre.

De las OVAS (mucho mejooooor que el anime) van 6 y se espera el estreno de la séptima. Éstas si van de acuerdo al manga y son mucho más emocionantes =).

Lo malo es que sale una o dos ovas por año solamente y le faltan otras 5 mínimo para acabar :'(
