Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS for uploading this delightful "blast from the past"! If Tom & the band were any cooler, they'd be frozen! You've MADE my day & my week! CHEERS, mate! :-)
it's a great arguement as to which is really the first rock and roll song , guitar boogie or rocket 88? most puritest dispell this as rock and label it as pop . YOU BE THE JUDGE. guitar boogie 1945 by auther smith or rocket 88. 1949.
When I first saw this concert it got me hooked on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as well as guitar playing. I've been addicted to both ever since! :)
When Tom Petty played the Superbowl Halftime Show in 2008, he didn't really play anything new, he just stuck to his old favorites. But it was cool to see young kids out there jamming along with the middle-aged folks like me. Some things sound just as good twenty years later.
Holy Underwear, Batman! This is strictly from coolsville, daddy-o! Love that boogie sound! THANK YOU so much for sharing this delightful tune with us! :)
One of the greatest guitar songs ever. Arthur Smith wrote it in the '40's, I think, and it's still being played. It's the first song I seriously tried to learn and I still use it for "warm-ups"
This is what I like about youtube. Where else would you be able to see or hear something like this? I am a big Tom Petty fan, but never heard him play anything like this before. Its cool to see these rock and rollers playing something out of the ordinary. Rock and roll can not be difined.
Wouldn't say they are unlikely to cover this song. They have quite a bit of a country and rockabilly flair to them. They've done plenty of covers of the like before such as Somethin' Else and Lonely Weekends and always do a hell of a job

What a shame that the bass player here, Howie Epstein would later die of a drug overdose.

This is called Guitar Boogie Shuffle. Tom Petty's guitarist is awesome. The same or better than the original Virtues version.

Mike Campbell is so underrated. He is as versatile as they come--and he's so modest.

Give that guy a frilly shirt -- he might think he`s a guitarist. Oh Christ no he`s shite.

Second rate rockabilly guitar play.
I myself am under-rated at hitting the guitar on the right bits. Damn sight better than that clown I am.
