  • Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS for uploading this delightful "blast from the past"! If Tom & the band were any cooler, they'd be frozen! You've MADE my day & my week! CHEERS, mate! :-)

  • He sure rocks my world. Great is an under statement.

  • awesome

  • it's a great arguement as to which is really the first rock and roll song , guitar boogie or rocket 88? most puritest dispell this as rock and label it as pop . YOU BE THE JUDGE. guitar boogie 1945 by auther smith or rocket 88. 1949.

  • When I first saw this concert it got me hooked on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as well as guitar playing. I've been addicted to both ever since! :)

  • this song is from 1959 by the Virtues

  • The original is alberto einstein the son of albert einstein

  • The original is actually by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith

  • Very Eddie Cochranesque - and that's gotta be Brian Setzer's influence on Mike Campbell y'know..

    Mikey xx

  • PURE CLASS!!!!!!!!

    And so RELAXED!!!

    Got to agree with Whitelinedrifter.

    Thanxs

    Steve/UK

  • What a shame that the bass player here, Howie Epstein would later die of a drug overdose.

  • The best version of "Guitar Boogie" i ever heard

    Mike Campell is great.

  • @len3jan Mike Campbell, Arthur Smith would be proud of you!

  • This is called Guitar Boogie Shuffle. Tom Petty's guitarist is awesome. The same or better than the original Virtues version.

  • When Tom Petty played the Superbowl Halftime Show in 2008, he didn't really play anything new, he just stuck to his old favorites. But it was cool to see young kids out there jamming along with the middle-aged folks like me. Some things sound just as good twenty years later.

  • This is superb rockin' boogie at the best !!

    Go, Mike and Tom, Go...

  • This is it why i like Rockpalast so much. You can hear very good players and bands there :-)

  • Band might should be called "Mike Campbell and The Heartbreakers".

    (...at least for this song.)

  • With Who he played Tom Petty?

  • Thank you so much for this

  • Mike Campbell is so underrated. He is as versatile as they come--and he's so modest.

  • Holy Underwear, Batman! This is strictly from coolsville, daddy-o! Love that boogie sound! THANK YOU so much for sharing this delightful tune with us! :)

  • Tom is just playing the rthym part.

  • Tom Petty is awesome. I have been playing guitar since I was 15, now 69 years old & still like the old originals. good job Tom

  • One of the greatest guitar songs ever. Arthur Smith wrote it in the '40's, I think, and it's still being played. It's the first song I seriously tried to learn and I still use it for "warm-ups"

  • Best guitar player ever. Mike can do it all.

    A real Guitar HERO.:)

  • i thought this guy did a very good job on a instrumental classic.

  • @Ronnza222 you are gaaayyyyy. And a queer homo.

  • This is what I like about youtube. Where else would you be able to see or hear something like this? I am a big Tom Petty fan, but never heard him play anything like this before. Its cool to see these rock and rollers playing something out of the ordinary. Rock and roll can not be difined.

  • @whitelinedrifter

This is the best version I have ever heard of Guitar Boogie Shuffle.

He is in the right key unlike everybody else who has a go at it

Good comment about youtube its a goldmine of hidden talent and performers..

  • Wow!!!

  • Tommy is the best

  • Not the most exciting guy to watch in concert but TP is the ShizNitz!!!!!

  • I beg to differ. Tom Petty IS the most exciting guy to watch in concert!

  • The most unlikely band to cover this song. Great version! True to the original!

  • Wouldn't say they are unlikely to cover this song. They have quite a bit of a country and rockabilly flair to them. They've done plenty of covers of the like before such as Somethin' Else and Lonely Weekends and always do a hell of a job

  • Petty's concerts are always a blast. Coolness defined.

  • you lucky bastard

  • Yea what a cool guy he is! tossed me his pick at the superbowl!

  • actually i saw neal schon walking in miami

  • If he really did I'd raid your house for it, just saying

  • Mike Rox

  • really?
