I missed Bette Bourne on stage recently and I am still kicking myself for it. Bette Bourne narrated a show in 1992, "A storm in a teacup", it was part of channel Four, Summers Out. Does anyone know where I could get a copy of this programme?
Get Hur with BB, Precious Pearl; Ivan absoulutely hilarious. I first saw Bette in a strange play at Hammersmith with Regina Fong which Neil Bartlett wrote and starred in. Bette sang a Cole Porter song and I was an instant fan.
I met Bette the year he was at Homotopia, having never seen Bloolips in action (my loss). I still feel honoured to have met the man. A great raconteur and excellent company.
Blulips were just magical and wonderful. I remember being at performances of theirs in the East Village in NYC in the 1980s and laughing so hard that I felt thankful to be alive at a period in history when I could experience something like that.
Madame Mao was genuis and Teenage Trash are the best theatre I have ever seen. Bette was easily the best in Funeral Games with Adam Ant. 'In the moonlight' has burnt itself on my brain!
Bette Bourne and his troupe Blooplips were fantastic. Each show got better and better. They had hysterical scripts and the song's eg: "Lets scream our tits off", "b.a.n.a.n.a.s-bananas!" and "I'd love to dance the tango, but my suit say's no" were wonderful and brilliantly staged. Totally camp and joyous. Their fun and gaiety are sorely missed.

I miss the Bloolips too. They were so much fun and clever.
My favorite line was:
until androgyny is was lonesome
from Lust in Space
which was their most hilarious show.
