Completely funny ~ listening to different versions of this, actually in the roundabout process of looking for this particular one - and recognized your name; I subscribe to your 'channel'. First time that has ever happened. What are the odds. : ) Thanks
love this song, and I do prefer Pete's demo. He made this demo using 1970s home audio equipment....tape recorders bouncing tracks kids. I doubt I could get lead vocal production as thick and rich and this even in my studio today. 256 tracks don't mean crap when the song is crap. it's just 256 tracks of crap.
it just goes to show that townsend knew so much about the human condition and this so called society that we live in ,it makes people leave comments like "i didnt know pete knew so much about me " and eddie vedder saying "i should have been sending pete fathers day cards ".its cos he knew that the system has us believeing we are individual but we all follow the path our rulers lay for us ,pete warned us for years about this ,and people still dont get it ..we pissed and shat in our own garden
I've seen all of Pete Townshend Demos (thanks DarthMurray) , and I think that the drumming in this one is the best of lal demos, and I think it might be even better than the studio version by The Who played by Keith. Great drumming by Pete.
Pete's not playing drums on this one. In the liner notes of the Scoop 3 album, it says:
"Recorded in 1975 by Dick Hayes at my Goring studio (the big one in the barn where I mixed Quadrophenia). Phil Chen played bass and brought his friends the brothers Andrew (drums) and Phillip Bailey (keyboards) along. They were a joy to play with."
WOW! Those to albums were like 20 years apart! But outside of a few songs from quadraphenia (it was in a leauge of its own) this is my all time favorite who song about me!LOL
Yeah your right! I must have been fucked up when i thought 20 years! LOL! Who By Numbers was ...what? 1975?... and Empty Glass was early 80's...so yeah your right! It just seemed like 20 years! LOL.. at least you werent an asshole about it! LOL! Thanx you dick! LOL
now, once ur done these... are there Who's Next ones that aren't on that W's N Deluxe Ed? Cause, the Scoop album has a different Behind Blue Eyes, so you'd figure eh?

CHEEEEEEZUS !
If any of the demos I ever had to listen to could have sounded like this one.
The more I listen to it, the more I'm amazed by the performance of Andrew Bailey.

Pete found out at 34 years old ( 7 years after this album ) that there was a way out .
Rehab !! Thumbs up Pete !!!! Very personal song , that's why he sings and not Roger !

This album (TWBN) is just plain unlike any other. He just put it all out there, brutally honest and beautifully expressed.

Great song! Didn't Pete knew so much about me!
"I should've been sending Peter Townshend Fathers Day cards" Eddie Vedder has been quoted as saying.

I think that Who's Next Delux Edition's bonus songs are discarded recording of songs played by The Who.
Anyway, i have the entire Lifehouse Chronicles Boxset with Townshend's demos. If you refer to them, yes, i'm planning to upload them.

yah?!!! oh man, jeez, thanks so much, I always wanted to hear what that was like, but I doubt I could ever buy that
