What a shame that such a precious piece of film should be accompanied by MOZART'S requiem! Thank you so much for the image but please change the sound track!
Verdi actually had an opera named "REQUIEM".....he also had some religious music and arias: "Messa da requiem", Laudi alla virgine Maria", Ave Maria"...I would not criticize, correct nor sugest anything to the good person that made this presentation, for fear of hurting his feeling; all the oposite, I profusely thank him for his good taste and good idea.
I wonder, were Verdi ever caught on film when he was still alive? The technique of filming was invented in 1894 and he died in 1901 so it could be possible.
The background music is obviously entirely good but maybe the "Lacrimosa" of Verdi's own Requiem would have been also good and "uncontroversial". Mozart would surely must have wanted to be in this memento. The two towering Requiems remembered in this clip!!
the first part is verdi requiem (till 13'') the 2nd is mozart's

@suzyqplacet what...mozart's requiem isn't also a precious piece? but true, it would be more appropriate to have the verdi requiem.

haha very appropriate! mozarts requiem, they should have stayed with his own messa da requiem! the dies irae is just engenious...
mortalfrog007 1 year ago
@mortalfrog007 I guess because it's too brutal for this.
but ... that was just the kind of men Verdi was and his music always powerfull!!!
so you're right he would have preferred something violent and powerful as his dies irae
