  • Thank you for posting. I saw one tonight at sunset over Belen, New Mexico. Wondered what it was. Thanks a bunch!

  • Those are the lines used to fill the envelope with gas. Weather balloons are sometimes a little odd in how they get filled, the old 'fill from the bottom' method won't work in some cases. I've even seen balloons that are filled from the top!

  • I've seen weather balloons, but none which look like that. What are all the "tentacles" hanging from beneath it? All weather balloons I've seen are just round balloons with a long tether on the bottom. The bottom of the tether is the radiosonde instrument, and th top of the tether is a red parachute which is carried already open, and which opens after the balloon bursts at high altitude.

  • Wow! I finally found out what that was! At least I'm guessing this must have been the same one I saw over Ahwatukee. Had the binoculars out and had a great view of that. Those tubes coming down really had me wondering though. Thanks for posting this!

  • fake! das ist ein ufo!

  • thanks for posting, I always wondered what a weather balloon looked like!

  • a wild drifloon appeared

  • The point in this video i thinks its because some poeple see strange things in the air and think its UFO...might be this ..i saw something like that floating in the air and it wasent moving at all,so i bet it was a weather baloon.

  • hmmm see throue weather balloons give me an idea

sort of a hot air balloon

  • lol can't imagine how many people called in a UFO for that

  • @Drewster327 A UFO is by definition supposed to mean "unidentified" not "extraterrestrial." So if they saw a weather balloon but could not identify it as such, it's a UFO. Yes?

  • Check out my channel to see a video I recorded of a weather balloon bursting in the upper atmosphere.

  • SondeHunter! Great work on your video! The exploding Balloon had great detail. You must have alot of patience though.

  • Coo .. I always wondered exactly how a weather balloon appears in the sky .. What is the frequency that weather balloons are used ??

  • 92 stations in the United States and its territories launch them twice per day.

  • Tweaking the exposure does wonders! Great Video.

  • Cool

  • i would have shot at it to make sure

  • was that on the same day in 2004 you caught an "ufo" on tape?

  • Ah, you know your the first one to notice. Congratulations! I was wonder if any one would take the time to see both clips. It took a while but it's nice to see that people would do that. And to answer your question, yes. Same day. The other clip is a lower quality image that was compressed a long time ago.

  • I see them from time to time. You can also tell it's a weather balloon too when you see a little string, and box used to record data.

  • Thanks. I hope this helps people out when they look to the sky and wonder what the heck that thing is up there. I'm going to add more information to the clip, like time and enviromental conditions.

  • Nice! Finally a video of a weatherballoon!

  • I've often wondered what a real weather balloon would look like. This is a good reference video for UFO watchers.

  • so its a weather balloon... whats the point of this video?

  • The point is that the video shows a weather balloon. It's not something you see every day, now is it?

  • Well you do have a good point, but it's also OBVIOUS the entire video and at every view that it's a balloon. I could post a video of myself thowing a frisbee and I would be making the same statement you are.

  • @johnkit I see weather balloons everyday. Then again, I believe in Leprechauns too. A bowl of Lucky Charms cereal anyone ?
