Usually a hole in the frame upfront somewhere or wrap it around the rear axle, what do you do if your friend is stuck in the snow, slid off the road, the car's to low to the ground to crawl under and wrap around the axle (you dont havve a jack) and you cant find a hole in the frame?

That is DUMB. Axle, frame, or anything is dumb. You would generally hook it to a tow hook, but if you don't have one, a receiver would be the best place.
