I still have a phobia of whales, and now I know why. I remember being scared as hell when I watched this when I was little. Also, as a side note, the whale's head and mouth expressions remind me of the Xenomorph from the movie "Alien". Maybe Giger was inspired by sperm whale heads? Along with the very phallic look, of course!

Holy crap... My whole adult life I've been a nervous wreck in deep water. When I can't see the bottom, I just imagine an enormous mouth looming out of the darkness to swallow me. Giant things in the water genuinely terrify me. And my wife asked me the other day what could possibly make me have such an irrational fear.

It was this scene. Without a doubt, a DISNEY MOVIE has scarred my mind forever. And from the comments I see I'm not alone. This is the reason I can never go diving or snorkeling.

What I don't understand is after Monstro destroyed their boat with his tail, why in the world did he go sooooooooooooo far away from them while under water then tried to charge them from such alooooooong distance on the surface of the water when he could have just came up under them after he destroyed their boat and ate them and ended it.

When I was a child, I peed my pants upon seeing Monstro's... monstrosity. And now, as an adult, I still do. Except now comes the added connotation of...

"SWEET MOTHER OF HOLY-!" Eh, but you get the idea. Pinocchio was probably my favorite movie as a child. And it still is.

heh... I always feared Monstro. One of the few disney "villains" (though thats not true, it's just an animal) to actually strike fear into me. But now looking back on it.. it wasn't monstro that scared me. It was his eyes.. anyone who can draw eyes like that honestly has psychological issues O_o;

But now that I look at this again, I have to laugh a bit. Look at how monstro is just "floating" on the water. It's just funny :).

Same here and I'm 18 too. He's so scary he makes Jaws look like a goldfish! Not too mention Stromboli or that whole Pleasure Island donkey sequence. Still I used to watch the movie all the time and sometimes it was just for this one scene alone. This was back when Disney was kid friendly yet mature enough make more intense scenes.
