@knowell2006 No, Eartha Kitt was not the original Catwoman, Julie Newmar was. Newmar played Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the first 2 seasons of the TV series until Selina finally said farewell to Batman in Comissioner Gordon's office before being taken into custody. In the third and final season, Selina is in prison and Eartha Kitt takes over as a completely different Catwoman, and is NOT Selina Kyle. Halle Berry and Lee Meriwether weren't playing Selina Kyle either. They were "alternate" Catwomen.

Meriwether's Catwoman was more like Marvel's Black Widow when you think about it.

The reason why Eartha Kitt was cast as Catwoman after Julie Newmar was because in the third season Batman was showing an interest in Batgirl, and ABC didn't want Batman to have two potential love interests, so they made Catwoman (Eartha Kitt) just pure evil. Kitt never tries to seduce Batman in that third and final season. Catwoman just views him as an enemy.
