  • what a way to wake up in the morning? Who needs coffee? The intro is just a jam.

  • Cannotgetenoughoftheintro!

  • the yankee bowie ....but more of a pioneer.

  • Lou is out of it ,the sound is shit , any one who thinks otherwise is as out of it as Lou was :)

  • @patthewoodboy that implys hes sometimes "in it"

  • as you can see lou allows no black people in his band

  • keyboards's riff is amazing

  • Hilarious!

  • WoW. Now that's a tight groove. The bass just melted my face off. Great band.

  • 強力ライヴ盤”ロックン・ロール・アニマル"と同時期、パリでの官能、ルー・リード、"トラスフォーマ"ーと"ベルリン"とのちょうど狭間期のヴェルヴェット"SweetJane"

  • Love the intro.

  • Anyone know what kind of neck pickup Danny was running?

  • I like "Sweet Jane" and I like early Lou Reed and early Velvet Underground but this performance is abysmal.

  • The village people band

  • thats a fuckin intro

  • That bass line almost swallowed Paris that night.

  • 117 people don't like men with moustaches

  • I think I just saw Lou Reed break into a rap. In 1974.

  • FUNKY!! AWESOME!!LULU RULES!!

  • What a freakin helluva band he had then huh?

  • SICK INTRO!!!!

  • sri-jblog.tumblr.com/post/13511097167/lou-reed

  • Here's the lineup:

    Danny Weiss on guitar,

    Michael Fonfara, keyboards

    Prakash John, bass

    Pentti “Whitey” Glan, drums

Lou's strategy at the time was to come out and have the band play something to hook the audience; then he'd come out and lay some Lou Reed on them :-)

  • Lou Reed's rock n roll animal period, though good for photo ops produced some fucking horrid music. I like the Velvet Underground stuff and Transformer is a good record, but when left to his own devices away from a good creative team, he just defaults to absolute shit, doesn't he?

  • @JeisonMylre , nope.

  • @JeisonMylre Nope.

  • @JeisonMylre Nope.

  • @JeisonMylre a little bit, and now hes doing some shit with Metallica, its completely terrible

  • yeah baby !!!!!!!!

  • SINGER SUCKS.

  • Damn. He was good lookin back then. Damn.

  • @bassist448 i dint mean anything by it lou reed is decent but i praticularly dont care for him i mean some of his music is good dont get me wrong but i just never got into his music

  • guy cant sing. should not sing. terrible.

  • The musicians look like "Captain Beefheart and The Tragic Band"....isn't it ?! Or is it just my imagination/hallucination ;)?

  • @xxLimbo85xx More like LSD and Cannabis. Heroin and Cocaine are what killed many musicians

  • nice

  • @xxLimbo85xx beatles didnt do heroin bro.

  • @cguitar100 Lennon did.

  • @hansjalv who is lennon? i thought we were talking about the beatles?

  • @cguitar100 Sorry, my bad.

  • @misterE2012 im srry i left out one of the best

  • @gutairdude1 And what are the other ones?

  • I wonder what kind of drugs that bassist it all fucked up on.

  • I simply dig this version so much I can't hear it enough right now...

  • FINE MUSIC NEVER DIES!!!...

  • Prakash John has been mentoring his very talented son Jordan. He's touring through Michigan and Ontario with his Lou Reed band mate Dick Wagner. Nov 20 Windsor Ontario. Saw his a few months ago - still sounding good.

  • hes gonna play with the best heavy metal band ever metallica i used to love metallica b4 this train wreck announced that he was gonna play with em

id rather listen to st. anger twice than listen to him and i hate st.anger

  • @gutairdude1 who gives a fuck.

  • @gutairdude1 Metallica is not the best heavy metal band ever.

  • @gutairdude1 That's very sad to hear. I mean, here you have Lou Reed, the king of New York, and one of the founders of Punk music. And you are insulting him, because Metallica did an album with him. I was disappointed too when I first heard about it. Mostly because I don't like metal music. I find it to be very stale and generic. It's very repetitive. And the album they made was not good at all. But it's not because of Lou Reed. It's because of Metallica sucking ass. Like always.

  • @bassist448 He isn't insulting Lou Reed because Metallica did an album with him.

He's insulting him (as am I) because Lou Reed did an album with Metallica.

It's a painfully-inconvenient truth for most of us, but Lou Reed hasn't given us anything worth a damn since the "Blue Mask".

  • @altroval New York is a terrific album

  • @xxLimbo85xx i dig that

  • Where is Prahash John these days? He was the best rock Bassist i have ever heard...

  • @terrryc OOOhhhhhh! That's who Prahash is!! He was credited on a Funkadelic album. I believe it was " America Eats It's Young".

  • Ostrich tuning sensation !

  • Now we know where MJ got his moves.

  • @xxLimbo85xx

    yeah, assholes!

  • @xxLimbo85xx What an ignorant, foolish, misanthropic thing to say.

  • The Indian bassist laid down some fucky shit right there. Best part of the video.

  • What is the name of the song from the begining to 1:50 secs. That is some funky shit.

  • @scorpiostrikes its called "Intro", theres no name to it. Lou Reeds band played the "Intro" everytime they played sweet jane.

  • this shit is flippin' crazy good -

  • everybody in this video looks fucking awesome.

  • Thumbs up if you love the bass line a the beginning

  • @pedrojojo29 What is the name of the song from the begining to 1:50 secs. That is some funky shit.

  • Personally I found all drugs diminished my mental fnction in some respect, even LSD which fulfills, some may say overly so, the neurochemical function of serotonin, but the guys playing here, man, they definitely overfulfill and BLOW MA MIND!!!

  • Those are Ian Hunter's shades!

  • cock dusters galore! Fantastic playing all round esp Prakash on bass!!

  • eminem the swagger jacker?

  • Well, it is certainly a pornstache. Me, I'll take the Dick Wagner intro over the fake reggae.

  • ECCELSI

  • the beging reminds me of gorilla radio - rage against machine

  • Maybe should play for Michael Jackson Jane feminine form of Jack God is Gracious

gra -ci-ous phonetic fun god c-i-ous there's that 'i' of mathematics again imaginary number with the 'c' light constant Lou Reed

  • i shot the sheriff hahaha

  • @xxLimbo85xx hahahahahahaha

  • good evening junkies

  • I just have to say this: I hate the original studio recording of this song, but it's always great to hear live.

  • @xxLimbo85xx Maybe not THOSE bands but drugs r certainly not essential to b a good songwriter or musician - I honestly think anyone who truly believes that they r lacks imagination. Drugs r way 2 overrated - their just a gimmick really or a fad, theres so much more 2 life & so much more 2 write about than substances that make u feel a bit different - so fuckin what . . . ? Goin for a jog lifts ur mood 2 (almost like cocaine) - u rarely hear ppl signin about that . . . . . .

  • @MissAshleyJClark

    some qualities of great artists

    - open minded

    - rebellious

    - inquisitive

    - sick of ones own reality

    some qualities of drug users

    -open minded

... oh wait its the same list

  • @Edwrath SOME ppl that take loads of drugs can b really narrow minded & chavvy 2 & not interested in gettin 2 know any1 whose not exactly like them - maybe things r different where ur frm & i'm not sayin it's drugs that make them like that, but alot of empty headed, sheepy, scummy ppl seem 2 b attracted 2 them 2 (at least in some places) - aswell as 'open minded, inquisitive' ppl etc. So just sayin drugs r not essential for an 'open mind' - nor do they nessesserally create 1. Do u c my point? ;)

  • @MissAshleyJClark true, drugs like opiates (heroin, oxy, morphine, dilaudid, and many others) actually close the mind in my opinion. Its mainly just a pleasure drug, not much insight into life on the stuff. Now, weed and some psychaedelics can be very "mind-expanding."

  • Thats what wud hav thought & I doubt cocaine gives ppl much 'insight in2 life' either - maybe e's do temporaily - but that creates fake feelings. I know LSD & magic mushrms can make ppl c & feel mad things & can temporaily make them think differently, but do u think the effects cud depend on the persons mind & how open mineded they r in the 1st place? Cos i've only ever seen thick bastards take it & it mite make them c things, but it certainly doesn't seem 2 'expand' their minds - wish it wud ;)

  • I AM THE TABLE!!!

  • I wish I were there :(

And yeah, fuck tube fighing comments, music is the best and speaks for itself.

  • the drugs did influence the music, but only because the music was about life, the drama of life, and drugs happened to be the lover of most of these guys at the time. but the message is universal. just happened to be a girl in the vein.

  • @xxLimbo85xx im not gonna get into a pissing match over who's lost more friends or pissed away their life for longer. im sorry to hear you got caught up for ten years, im sorry to hear about your friends, on both accounts i bet you feel the same as i do about mine. yes drugs did influence their songs, at some point in each of the stated bands careers. but to say without drugs, we wouldn't have those bands, is ridiculousness, youve got to agree with me about that.

  • @xxLimbo85xx bullshit. drugs were just what they ended up replacing love songs with until it destroyed thier careers. the drama made for a few good tunes but thats about it. you discredit great artists. i seriously doubt youve ever been a self sustained songwriter in rock and been on shit or you would not saying that.

  • @9thstreetbrandt I agree with u . . . . . .

  • Goddamn that opening bass is deep.

  • This isn't half bad. In fact, this is pretty goddamn cool. I guess it took Metallica to introduce me to the 70s Reed. Sad. But it'll be the one good thing that came out of "I am the table".

  • I Ain't got the words.

  • peace out man :) C

  • that fucker fucked metallicas mind................

  • Now he goes and fuck metallica's album

  • @XxTonyMetalxX stop bitching. Lou Reed is a rock and roll legend. Metallica sux now anyways.

  • @tdyyy1613 Whatever...

  • @XxTonyMetalxX he didnt fuck anyones album, Lulu is not a Metallica album.. Metallica is contributing music to Lou Reed's album

Metallica are still working/releasing their own album late this year/early next year

  • this is some crew!

  • i like the bassists ric

  • Love everyones comments! Xox!

  • Wow he was fukd up... So bad, I'll watch it again.

  • he sucks he cant sing simple as that

  • @leviathon18 Go watch some Mastodon videos or something.

  • That bassist is definitely on the look out for cops.

  • guitarist is like.. dude. not the tambourine.

  • Moustache's, funky bass lines, and lots and lots of cocaine. The 70's

  • What a shitty frontman.

  • I dont get why people like Lou Reed, his voice isnt that good, can someone explain?

  • @Jakekissfan Cuz he's a bad ass mofo and his band rocks the monster staches

  • see that funky white boy get down! Awesome alternative opening...wicked bass slapping! Does anyone else out there think his performance is sexually charged? It's almost like he's cruising or hustling. Work it girlfriend!

  • 99 people are scared of mighty mustaches.

  • Gotta love the potatoe filming of the 70's - 80's

  • Good lord. Uh, is the bassist slightly paranoid? Hahaha. Sure isn't stoned, perhaps coming off a bender of 4 days of coke right?

  • Love the bass-line they open with here. Trying to learn it, but I'm not great at picking stuff up by ear. Can anyone help me out with a bass tab?

  • @Eventsbyresonance

    Try getting stoned first

  • Looks like Sally can dance, if you ask me :)

  • Lou in the depth of Heroin, cocaine, you name it. Damn he looks bad, you have to see yourself 1st!

  • 6:40 - is that a young Bill Oddie plucking away?

  • Comment removed

  • Lou Reed as the Thin White Duke (yeah coke or speed....no doubt!)

  • intro is better than the song.

  • This crew of motley fools, I would party my beanbag off with them. They'e gooned as fuck here. Can't tell if it's a metric tonne of amphetamine or blow, not that it really matters (it's probably a cocktail of delectables in all reality). Great performance, luckily caught on celluloid.

  • And those, young kiddies, are what are known as "musicians".

  • guy on bass must be an indian porn star.

  • @whoarethebrainpigs The guy playing bass is Prakash John, he is one of the best bass players of all time (listen to the bass line on the Rock and Roll Animal version of White Light/White Heat, hot damn) He also played bass for Parliament Funkadelic AND Alice Cooper, don't be an ass.

  • @whoarethebrainpigs .....that is Prakash John....who went on to play on what many consider to be the greatest live album of all time, Lou Reed Rock and Roll Animal.....he and the other members of that band including Steve Hunter, Dick Wagner, Pentti Glan, and Ray Colcord are also considered by many to be one of the first "supergroups".....listen to Rock and Roll Animal from start to finish and I think you might agree with both....

  • @whoarethebrainpigs listen to the video Lou Reed-Sweet Jane from Rock and Roll Animal and during the intro you will here that Indian porn star play a bass line that is effing incredible.....if this one wasn't good enough for you...

  • @whoarethebrainpigs wow, you musta thought you'd get more love, but seriously a), they all have that look cuz it was THE 70'S. Funky people all had that look. Square people looked like that too! b) you listening to the PHAT bass this mofo playing? and that's your contribution? bet all your 12 year old buddies must think yer hilarious! keep up the inane and you'll get more replies like this to give you a little credit, at least u picked this song, Ive made more than my share of stupid comments

  • The bass sounds the best.

  • Lou is the only cool looking one there

  • I was there!

  • dear god this is like elton john fronting the vu post-loaded...

  • Lou Reed IS Rock N Roll

  • Apparently Jane's a clerk-uh.

  • Prakash is just diggin' in a funky butt crack on that bass line... F U N K Y.

  • I wonder if Lou has ever seen this footage. He is straddling Glam and Disco here, along with some other stuff.

  • Is that Freddy Mercury on the bas...???

  • @Concerttwin Prakash John..best bass player in the 70's. Played with Reed, Alice Cooper, and George Clinton

  • @martbook

He's good. Not the best though. Jerry Scheff was the best.

  • 70's hair is always so wig-like.

  • Apparently he and Metallica made an album!

    Why?

  • This was awesome until he started singing . . . he IS a great songwriter, but he really shouldn't be doing lead vocals on a regular basis.

  • ron jeremy on guitar

  • @gabbahey66 00xa0ax0ax0ax0ax0ax0ax0xx xxDDDD

  • 3:13 FTW

  • Trop top cette video, cultissime

  • Pretty sure there's no gum in the bassist's mouth, but he sure is chewing away. Any idea what that be from? :)

  • I never realized what a short scrawny faggot he is.

  • yum, yum, yummmmy. from a hot old school girl. xox

  • omg! I am not a drug user..cough cough..but these guys are wigged!
