"One of the most unique people in politics" - Rachel Maddow
If by unique, you mean the only person who will save Social Security for the "liberals," then yes, Ron Paul is "unique." He wants to cut the war mongering abroad to transition the Seniors and needy to a more sustainable system. Neither Obama, nor any other repulican (barring Huntsman) has the courage to do both. Unsustainable spending = debt crisis = dollar crisis.
Cut empire, save social security. Do the humane thing, votePaul.

The only difference is he has a suit and advocates for rich people. Anarchists are, for the most part, leftist. libertarianism is nothing but anarchism for conservatives and rich people.
@BigD1987 You have no idea what you are even saying. Ron Paul may identify as a libertarian but he doesn't advocate pure libertarianism just like democrats don't advocate pure democracy.
He simply wants to end the power of federal government that pays out billions to military dictators overseas and is practically owned by corporations and lobbyists like AIPAC at the expense of the tax payer. Not to mention they counterfeit trillions with the federal reserve and inflate the economy to shit.
I liked ron paul... for about a second. Then I realized his vision was too extreme and closer to anarchism than anything decent. He is extreme, wrong, and (possibly, since it's non confirmed) bigoted.

@BigD1987 You're obviously misinformed about his positions
Decentralization =/= anarchy. It implies more local state government control and less federal control.
Paul is and never was an anarchist. He recognizes how corrupt and corporate controlled federal government is and how it wields absurd amounts of unconstitutional power which it uses to benefit the special interests only.

why in hindsight is he ready to roll back the "significant changes" promulgated by youngsters in the 60s/70s, which include an increasing government role in protecting rights and security and almost led to communism.
She continuously pumps out bipartisanship. WAKE UP,,, Ron Paul said it best right then, it's a side show to the real issues. I still don't think he should have even address her stupid, again bipartisan, question about Dick Cheney. What the hell does that have anything to do with anything that's going on.
The very fact that this man is a member of the legislature, gives me hope for America.
I think the conflict in the Republican party though is more between the the rational side and the irrational side. The former are Republican bc/ they understand economics. The later are Republican bc/ of some religious belief they wish to see enforced on others. Ultimately these two can't coexist. One is libertarian and the other is authoritative
All of them are not friendly. But Ms. Maddow has really latched on to his foreign policy message. And I will never join forces with the 2nd Tea Party movement so long as they see Sarah Palin as the next candidate du jour.
@fuzzybekool Maybe it was to cozy up to Ron so she could gain his trust only to betray his son. It's honestly the first thing I thought when the Rand interview went down. She so admires Ron as a man of principle. Like I said above, this means she's a robot. She did the hit on Rand like a good stool pigeon!
@cacapoopoo2327 Rand should be more like his father. She treated him differently than Ron because Rand is an idiot and his dad is a respectful man full of vigor.
@MARCHERET We are all trying to return this Country to the Constitution. Why do you still shoot at friendly's? Divided Conservatives will lose in 2010. Find the things that unite us first, restore the Republic, and then lets talk about our differences, they gaps are not that wide.
Maddow is at least intellectually honest, and consistent with the major issues in grilling both sides of the spectrum. The 'color' issues, not so much, as this shows. She was clearly trying to get RP to hit out at either Graham or the Tea Partiers, and RP just doesn't work that way.
However, it was a good interview, and she let him speak his piece, which I appreciate. (as to her being gay, back at one comment, who cares?)
I'm a Ron Paul supporter and I watch Rachel Maddow sometimes. She's at least entertaining in her delivery and she gives the left a hard time a lot too. Her gayness means zero to me. At least she's not a total retard is alls I'm sayin...
Actually Maddow led a thoughtful discussion that allowed Ron Paul to state his ideas. This is a change from the yell happy idiots at fox who have repeatedly shouted down and marginalized Ron Paul when he criticized the Republican party. Your partisan attacks and ad hominem criticisms are not only sad they are indicative of your relative lack of thoughtful analysis of an intelligent interview.
not much time to get the word out.....Maitraya the false prophet or anti-christ is leading the way now with the New Age Movement (nazism in another word)......to be the one world religion.
Sustainable alternative energy feed in tarrifs are the only thing that will save America from the plutocrats military indust comp and their current corporatist take over of all 5 branches of government but it will take a majority drop out revolution from the status quo to change course.
Graham, in defense of his position on cap and trade said: If we fail on climate change and energy, where will our new jobs come from to pay our Social Security and Medicare bills?
Good interview although I don't like the way Rachel keeps harping on the divisiveness on the Right and ignoring Paul's point, that it's not a Republican vs Republican issue. It's Americans vs the established Republican AND Democrat parties. I really wish she would be more objective and focus on the immorality of both parties.
He came to my campus and I had a chance to speak with him (I said "Hello", but that still counts). Very sharp and can get fired up when provoked. Held up a booklet of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and preceded to make his case. I must have fallen asleep whenever he went into his anti-Jew tirade. It was nice a nice breath of fresh air from the liberal ideological cloud that choked the campus forums.
I was surprised Maddow didn't spew some Obama love talk during this interview. She is such a tool for the fascist government. Notice she did try to bait RP into the whole " I am taking over the Republican party" thing.
Are you joking? She's OFTEN spoken against Obama, specifically about his broken promises. For example, she's brutal on him for not dealing with Don't Ask, Don't Tell. If you think she spews "Obama love," it means you never actually watch her show.
That was one example. I love how you have nothing better to do than make gay jabs and repeat yourself. There have been several issues she's been at odds with Obama on, and you pretty much confirmed my first comment in that you never actually watch her show, or you would know that well enough yourself.
Might want to not comment on things you don't even watch. Or are you really only interested in the base political polarization of things?
You are correct, up to a certain point. I do not watch her show anymore. I enjoy her intellect and impressed with her ability to make an opinion so clearly and succinctly. It is my opinion that someone in her position should report on issue without bias. This is where she fails. I did not vote for Obama and do not watch Fox because their constant Obama attacks. I no longer watch Maddow because she is biased.
Couldn't agree with graham more....thank god. the republican party as we know it today is failing. and people like ron paul Can take it in a fresh, grass roots direction.
Tea party groups do not equal ron paul libertarian group.
I see tea party as those regardless of political affiliation that are just angry and really don't have any actual philosophy or platform to actually correct the system.
Ron paul's libertarians(is there a better way to call them?) has essentially had their platform as libertarians stolen by tea party groups and the republicans that lead the tea party groups(Dick Armey is still a republican). I prefer the Ron paul over the tea party.
very surprised by maddow's conduct in the this interview. she conducted it very nicely. well done. ron paul always shows up to present his message fueled by austrian econmics and libertarianism. good job both!
"conservatives , republicans" are liars and cheaters...as well as "liberals"
cnn, cnbc, msnbc, fox, you all the media are nothing but extremists ....you sensationalize everything...you are to the point of not different than the islamic extreemist, or any other extreme people..
we NORMAL people, are sick and tired of you !!!! enough already.
this is what a man should sound like when he knows and sees the truth for what it is. no sloganeering, no buzz phrases in key interviews, just straight substantive talk anchored by principles and not identification of one party or another. ron paul party? is that meant to have a negative connotation? beats the corporate bankers party...
I have a good Obamanoid friend who just plain hates hearing Ron Paul's name and calls anyone who follows him crazy but they actually agree on many issues. She also closes her ears and yells shut u p a lot. What's up with that? I love hearing RP talk.
I have found that there are generally two types of liberals. There are the ones that are anti-war, for civil liberties, etc, and want to help the poor and (mistakenly) believe that the government is the best way to do that. Then there are liberals who just hate conservatives. They don't care about helping the poor, civil liberties, war is bad, or whatever, they just hate conservatives and refuse to have anything to do with them.
Liberals like bringing out the Ron Paul monkey as a Republican to dance for them on anti-war issues, a part he plays well. Of course, he's too much of a coward to bring up his total disagreement with them on the welfare state during these appearances.
What is eccentric about sound money? Rachel doesn't understand economics any better than the Keynesian fools who have been running the show for decades. She just repeats what she has been taught.
I think he goes a bit overboard on the fateful collapse of the dollar. Too many economists reject his beliefs. Many say a weakened dollar is good for America's exports, thus good for our economy. No reputable economist I have read from talks of hyper-inflation. Besides the master of all trades, Tricky Dick Morris on Faux News. He's a joke.
Yes, many economists disagree with RP and the Austrian economists. But these are the same fools who told us everything was fine and didn't see the collapse coming. The Austrians predicted it!
just the fact that your name is "socialist liberal" should warn people that you support personal choices, while promoting big government enforcement, which is, in fact, a hypocrisy.
Constitutional Conservative. is very different than "conservative" and there is no such thing as Conservative Libertarian, you're right, it would also be wrong.
Socialist, I believe Maddow views him as a useful idiot for stirring up inter-party strife amongst Republicans. He doesn't turn down any of these interviews because he can't afford to with his miniscule national support base.
I disagree, I think that Rachel, like me, views Ron Paul as one of the few people on the right side of the spectrum who is willing to have a civlil discussion and doesn't just tell lies.
I sense nothing but respect in her tone, and an agreement to disagree.
Also, Left and Libertarians have common cause opposing the wars. It sucks when your nation has to add an "S" to the end of the word "war".
I am sort of skeptical about some of the exact measures Paul would take but I still support him and here is why. The man is just so consistent and such a breath of fresh air when you hear him talk... nobody on the hill seems to have any integrity or principle today.
I think his message about the two party system, politics as usual hoodwinking the American people is completely legitimate, we need his voice louder in government regardless of your views of fiscal policy.
The fact that the media is so quick to write him off and tries to discredit him (surprised that Rachel hasn't here) makes me even more skeptical of our neo-con dominated government. Ron Paul is too genuine to ignore, period. ANd he is right that all this partisan bullshit is a deliberate distraction from the real issues... you can't see that??
@bobshenix I'm a progressive and I like Ron Paul. Surprised? I don't think Congressman Paul is a vicious guy but his Senator Rand Paul scares me. He doesn't sound at all like his father. Maybe that's just me.
If Ron Paul did win any presidential election he would never get anything done . No one in politics agree with him . The MAJORITY of Americans don't agree with him .
The Congress and Senate would stop him in his tracks . Republican and Democrat .He should just stay in good 'ol Texas .
A bigger majority of American then you think agree with him. As far as congress and the senate we need to fire 90% and vote in people who have actually held a real job at least ten years and who support the Constitution. Oh and no more lawyer especially class action ones.
What 2% ? Hell I'll give you 10% , and he still couldn't win anywhere other that TX . I bet money on that . Oh , wait , I forgot you don't deal in money . Let me go buy some gold and then we can bet .LOL , you people are so fuckin' FUNNY !!!!
If Ron Paul had been elected it would have sent a message to the unprincipled Congresscritters that the American people were fed up with the status quo. He would be setting the agenda and Congress would be responding. His popularity would run across party boundaries and not be a partisan spectacle. If only Americans were better informed.
If you voted for Obama you are certainly not informed. I would call you an idiot. He (Obama) has done nothing but talk and continue the failed policies of Bush.
I voted third party because voting for the stooge the Dems or Republicans put up every four years is the definition of insanity...doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
Your the idiot then my friend because you vote didn't count for shit . As it won't in the next election . Obama has tried to change this country and the republicans have tried to stop him at every pass . He has a lot to fix after Bush and I don't expect it all to get done in his first year . Anyone who thinks it should is blind . Also anyone who thinks he'll do everything he said on the campaign trail is also an idiot .
I am very well informed in REALITY , you might want to give it a go .
My vote didn't count for anything? Why should anyone vote for those who have no idea about solving this nations problems? You wasted your vote. Thing will be worse after Obama but you will still vote for the stooge the media tells you to vote for.
You think I voted for Obama because the media told me too ? Then you really are a fuckin idiot . I voted for him because he stands for a lot of the things I believe in for me and for my country . I'm sure you came to the same conclusion . Oh , wait , no you didn't , you said you voted for the third party because you were tired of the same thing over and over again .
That is why I said your vote didn't count . Nobody on a third party ticket is worth voting for . Hence , worthless vote .
Obama is the reincarnation of FDR. Nothing new there. He thinks more government is the answer. As I said before, Obama will make things worse but you are too uninformed to understand that. How do you expect things to get better in this country if you vote for people who make the same stupid mistakes over and over? What great ideas does Obama have?
Obama and his advisers do not understand what caused the Depression of the 1930's so they are making all the same mistakes Hoover and Roosevelt made. They will prolong the downturn for years if not collapse the entire system.
If you were familiar with RP you would know he understands what caused the Depression and would take a different course. He does not buy into the phony Keynesian system of economics.
The Keynesian system worked fine after the Depression . Why wouldn't it now ? And what would RP do different ? Please since I'm SO uninformed , Inform me !
The Keynesian system has not worked fine after the Depression. Inflation has devalued our money and we still have the business cycle with the booms and recessions.
Continuing FDR excise taxes also on fruit juice, soft drinks, cars, tires (including tires on wheelchairs), telephone calls, movie tickets, playing cards, electricity, radios and many other everyday things. Which meant that the New Deal was substantially financed by the middle class and poor people. New Deal taxes were major job destroyers during the 1930s, prolonging unemployment that averaged 17%. Higher business taxes meant that employers had less money for growth and jobs.
Truely I don't think Obama cares I think he wants a welfare state. You are right in that they are making the same mistakes .FDR might not have intended to harm millions of poor people, but that's what happened. We should evaluate government policies according to their actual consequences, not good intentions.
FYI FDR extended the depression 8 years with his policies. You can find that information at the library of congress. He also preached about being a good American you should buy war bonds which 85 million Americans bought $185 billion dollars worth along with high taxes pay for WW2. He died a rich man and only had $400 worth of bonds. FDRs New Deal programs were financed by tripling federal taxes. He put excise taxes on alcoholic , cigarettes, matches, candy, chewing gum, margarine, and more..
There was another country that voted for their leader because of what he said, without paying attention to party contributions, to the lies he spewed on the people to coax their vote, and he also gave good speeches. In the end, it resulted in WWII, and everyone who voted for him was marginalized when the country was retaken by the people.
I wonder if you could guess who that is? and i wonder if when the votes are counted, and when his reign is over, if you will admit you voted for him.
Uh oh , you figured it out . Obama is Hitler in disguise . You devilish genius . Did you know he is the antichrist too ? Fuckin' idiot . I can tell you one thing for sure , he's more of an American than you are or ever will be .
I love Ron Paul because Republicans and NeoCons don't know what to do with him.
But I don't know if I completely agree with his ideology of destroying the Federal Reserve as the solution. While I believe it's gone unregulated for too long which has helped escalate our military industrial complex & banking monopolies, I differ w/ his position of simply killing it. I don't subscribe to the solution of curing cancer by killing the patient.
Drealist87, I wasn't referring to the fed as the patient - it's become more of a cancer because of out negligence to regulate it properly.
But while the fed has been grossly unregulated, it's also been the catalist for much of our advancement. It's a hard truth, but much of our technological advancements have come as a result of war technology which our banks have funded in part & the banks have been backed by our federal reserve. Life would be considerably different if there were no fed.
@zibbadow: Obama is on par to mess up worse than Bush. He is spending faster than Bush. They are both equally bad. Bush got us more in debt 5 trillion over 8 years. Obama has added 2.5 trillion dollar to the debt and he hasnt been in office for one year. Obama is making Bush look like a coupon clipping housewife.
Thumbs up if you think Rachel is gorgeous.

Why is MSNBC so friendly to Ron Paul all of a sudden. LMAO !
Hmmm. It's not because they are trying to keep the Tea Party people and the Ron Paul people from joining forces. Is it ?
Nahhhhh. ROFL. You liberal media peeps sure are acting worried for some reason.

Actually Maddow led a thoughtful discussion that allowed Ron Paul to state his ideas. I was surprised Maddow didn't spew some Obama love talk during this interview. She is such a tool for the fascist government. Notice she did try to bait RP into the whole " I am taking over the Republican party" thing.
duckmannow 2 years ago
Are you joking? She's OFTEN spoken against Obama, specifically about his broken promises. For example, she's brutal on him for not dealing with Don't Ask, Don't Tell. If you think she spews "Obama love," it means you never actually watch her show.
DeadlyChinchilla 2 years ago
That is because she is gay and the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy hits home. Other then that, she does spew OBAMA LOVE, and it's gross.
miamiboarder 2 years ago
That was one example. I love how you have nothing better to do than make gay jabs and repeat yourself. There have been several issues she's been at odds with Obama on, and you pretty much confirmed my first comment in that you never actually watch her show, or you would know that well enough yourself.
Might want to not comment on things you don't even watch. Or are you really only interested in the base political polarization of things?
DeadlyChinchilla 2 years ago
You are correct, up to a certain point. I do not watch her show anymore. I enjoy her intellect and impressed with her ability to make an opinion so clearly and succinctly. It is my opinion that someone in her position should report on issue without bias. This is where she fails. I did not vote for Obama and do not watch Fox because their constant Obama attacks. I no longer watch Maddow because she is biased.

She was being way too polite by not exploiting his eccentricity for his constitutionalist monetary policy.

Higher business taxes meant that employers had less money for growth and jobs.
quizerry 2 years ago
Truely I don't think Obama cares I think he wants a welfare state. You are right in that they are making the same mistakes .FDR might not have intended to harm millions of poor people, but that's what happened. We should evaluate government policies according to their actual consequences, not good intentions.
quizerry 2 years ago
FYI FDR extended the depression 8 years with his policies. You can find that information at the library of congress. He also preached about being a good American you should buy war bonds which 85 million Americans bought $185 billion dollars worth along with high taxes pay for WW2. He died a rich man and only had $400 worth of bonds. FDRs New Deal programs were financed by tripling federal taxes. He put excise taxes on alcoholic , cigarettes, matches, candy, chewing gum, margarine, and more..
quizerry 2 years ago
There was another country that voted for their leader because of what he said, without paying attention to party contributions, to the lies he spewed on the people to coax their vote, and he also gave good speeches. In the end, it resulted in WWII, and everyone who voted for him was marginalized when the country was retaken by the people.
I wonder if you could guess who that is? and i wonder if when the votes are counted, and when his reign is over, if you will admit you voted for him.
