I really enjoy Tangents..doing tribute show on 9.22. "Zawinul died this morning of skin cancer.. innovator, compositional genius and cross-pollinating pioneer. Weather Report led by Joe & Wayne Shorter (& later incl Jaco Pastorius) the most important world jazz fusion group of all time; recorded on 5 Miles Davis albums. innerviews-dot-org/inner/zawinul;" Tangents tribute, 9.22.07 10p-12a [PST] (91.7, kalw-dot-org) Dore Stein,Producer/Host, Sat, 8p-12a [PST] on KALW (91.7, SF) or webcast at KALW
Every year, for 35 or so, we could count on the musical surprises and heavy chops of this great.
How much we will miss that wonderful feeling of the first listen? I can't imagine, and the vacancy is already present in my head; Now what? Thanks for hours of joy and truth Joe, your music is the SHIT!and always will be.
Nice to say the least that others are circulating the word.. i've been doing so for 35 or more years..forming a band of like minds in central california.....any takers.....open minds and evolving play/ers
It is so great to see people smiling and enjoying themselves playing such great music. Certainly beats watching a bunch of jazz stiffs take themselves too seriously
Incredible group, musicians, singer, feeling.

Some say Beethoven is a great genius but to me Zawinul is the greatest contributer to musical joy, innovation and style.
