1993 was a strange year because it Milo had the pressure of Olympic glory and naturally went of peak. Gina Gogean had only just begun her career, Lysenko could have done better but she stepped out on floor. Lilia Podka was error prone, Fabrichnova and Piskin looked promising.
Obviously you dont remember the final or even the Worlds that year. The 93 Worlds first of all was one of the worst gymnastics fields ever to begin with. Shanon Miller was favored to win all 5 golds that year and won the AA even with a big mistake on beam. The field that year was only Miller, out of shape Milo who wasnt nearly as strong as 91/92/94/95, Gogean who wasnt up on COP yet and had mostly 9.9 SVs, Dawes closer to 92 version than 94-96, and past her prime Lysenko. Nothing else.
I think Milo should have won - Dawes form was really deductible and they did. I was just surprised by the big difference between 9,725 and 9,85. Milo should have got like 9,75 or maximum 9,775.
I agree 9.85 was a bit high. She actually was much better on beam in 94 than any other year, just had problems hitting sometimes. In 94 though Milo had a fluidity on beam she didnt have in earlier or later years.
On another note do you know what happened to her on beam in the 92 Olympic AA. She scored only 9.85 which while huge in 93 was very low for a top gymnast in 92. If she even matched Gogean's 9.9 she would tie Gutsu for the AA gold. I didnt see her beam there, did you?
One thing to remember is Dawes had a 9.9 start value, atleast I am pretty sure she did. Something about event final rules, she didnt meet a COP requirement even though she did for beam in the AA. Considering that a 9.725 was high for her too. That mean with a 10 start value the routine was worth a 9.825 and with the form breaks, wobbly last side jump, and hops on the landing I doubt that.
@russianskatingfan Don't hate Ludmila Prince just because you've never heard of her! She had one of the best layouts on beam EVER. Not saying that she deserved to win, because she had some pretty major problems (didn't hold her 1 arm handstand long enough, big wobble on LOSO, cowboyed double tuck). BUT, she could have been a contender for silver/bronze, since she got a 9.7 in prelims.
If Li Li wasn't overtime, I would've liked her to win!
@russianskatingfan dawe's steps wheren't that big on the landing, and she did have horrible form ill give you that, milo did deserve to win but she lacked some flair for me, but she did deserve it
@bbhouk1 she had only a 9.8 start value and had a badly cowboyed double back dismount which she still didnt stick. So no she shouldnt have won. Maybe a bronze at best.
@TuesdayPillow whatever, she did deserve to win since she had the best routine in the final. Who deserved it if she didnt. Dawes with that horrible form, only a 9.9 start value, and a huge hop on the dismount. Gina with a 9.7 or 9.8 start value. Li Li with two tenths off for going overtime and a couple balance breaks. You must really hate Milo if you think anyone else more deserved the gold here than she did.
i would've have ranked Milo any higher than third this year (1, Dawes, 2,Gogean 3, Li Li). she scored way 2 high just b/c she went last and didn't make a major mistake but stylistically & technically this was far inferior 2 most in the field.
thats not her- thats a big ole bull diegarr

Now beam finals itself:
Dawes- only 9.9 SV, horrible form in 93, big steps on dismount
Gogean- only 9.8 SV
Li Li- a .2 deduction for going overtime
Shannon Miller- fell 3 times
Fabrichnova- fell
Xuemei- fell
Ludmila Prince- who!?! See what I mean about the weak field that year.
I know you hate Milo but she won by default, there really was no other possible winner. Who else should have won if not her.

I agree this sucked but so did the final. Who should have won exactly? You do realize they had to give out a gold medal.
