I've owned a coupe of Taurus' . For me they are the most comfortable car I've every owned. 16 hour drives with no problem. The one I have now has the Vulcan engine, over 150k miles and still uses no oil between changes. Only had to perform normal maintenance. Not super fast or anything, but the engine is the happiest engine.
ive seen many 80's car commerials from both ford and chevy. they featured a fully electronic cluster like the one shown at 0:11-0:12 but i never saw them before. were they standard or did you have yo order then special from the dealership?
My aunt had a golden 86 Taurus MT-5, it was very reliable and fuel efficient. She sold it in the late 90s with over 150,000 miles. Then she bought a brown 88 Taurus GL with the 3.0 V6 and 4 speed auto, it was reliable but not as good as the MT-5, anyway it never had problems with engine or the tranny.
Now my cousin has a white 97 Taurus GL with over 180,000 miles. It was a rental car (and I´m sure it was very abused) but the tranny is still working good. Pretty reliable cars
My family had one (86 taurus wagon loaded) it was a nice looking wagon for its day... but it was kindof unreliable. not terrible though. we were never totally stranded I think.
@94fordtaurus so your going to make a decision about buying a car based on some rapper that probably bought his taurus because he couldnt afford anything better at the time? this right here is why america is falling apart.. dumbasses like you
@Hurricane012345 It certainly got you upset enough to respond, so you know that that makes you? A BIGGER dumbass. So why don't you take your Eagle Premier drivin' behind and 'keep on pushin on' like you're used to doing to get to work. lol
@94fordtaurus im not upset and its not like it takes that much effort to write back a comment. i was just pointing out how stupid people are when it comes to buying cars.
@Hurricane012345 In case you were too dense to figure it out, most of the comments here were made by people who 1) like old commercials or 2) have a special admiration for the Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable. Everyone seemed to be enjoying reminiscing about both until you had to butt in with stupidity. Your original response was a waste, and so are you. You're the dumbass.
@94fordtaurus actually im pretty sure you were saying how accords and camrys cant compare... so if you think about it you were the one who started this. its not like im going to be like most people on youtube and start a fight, i just try to thin out the ignorance in the world.
Both the sedan and wagon are stunning! The same can be said of the Mercury Sable. I refer to the 1st generation (1986-1991). The second generation (1992-1995) still looks good, except for the Sable sedan, I hate the rear end. After that it was all downhill. If only they made cars this stylish with today`s improved quality standards and safety features.
This is hard to believe - after the first generation, they fell woefully behind the times, and are more or less completely unremarkable if you do not look at the SHOs.
Look for a brand spanking new Taurus to arrive in late 2009 as a 2010 model. If you search the internet for "2010 Ford Taurus" you will see some photos. It is an incredible looking car! I can't wait, I may have to get one.
I had a '96 Taurus. It was okay as for driving, but eventually became unsafe and too beat-up, and I had to get rid of it. I might look for a decent one from the '80s, since I've heard great things about them.
Yeah, they're pretty good too but they didn't have passenger airbags until '94, you should really try lookin' at a '92 to '95 Taurus, they're alot more common, they're bigger, and usually cost under $4000..
Thanks man. I got these commercials from an advertising agency in Toronto in 2005. I found out from Ford that they had done ads for the Taurus in 1986 and asked them if they could send me them on DVD.
They couldn't find them in their archives, so it took alot of waiting and phone calls until they finally found them, and sent them to me. So these are DVD quality commercials.
There weren't all that many commercials on it, pretty much just the ones I've uploaded a couple more. But since they had gone through all the trouble of looking through their archives, and because it was free I was in no position to complain.
what is all this keep hereing about the taurus tran being bad is this just a rumer or was it true and are thay relly plauged with trubles i no i want one but what year was the best one thanks
if you get one get a 3.0L the 3.8L made to much torque for the tranny to handle. the tranny cooling on all taurus's are designed badly but if you really want one get a 3.0L then put a tranny cooler on asap. my dad had a 91 and we did burnouts with it... i remember as a kid but we never had a problem so i bought a sho

Maybe you could get an 88-91. Same design.

My friend had an early Taurus in about '91. Was about 4 or 5 years old. The motor mounts had broken and the car accelerated in an odd manner.

I wanted a 1987 Taurus LX station wagon. Too bad a loaded car cost almost $20,000.00 back then and I was 15 at the time. Damn!

In 1987 they would have had a 1987 Ford Taurus.

@91Taurus Do you know if they also did the "Taurus: For Us" jingle? I'd assume it was probably a different company.
