  • I was new 2LT at the 22nd Repl Bn next door to the 6th CC.. thought the bad guys were coming to us next but they went out to sea... a bad night... wrecked the CC with satchel charges..... I have many slides and pics of the mess... proud to have served with those who were there.. All The Way, Sir!

  • My name is Charles C. Sumblin, and I was asleep in the hutch when the V,C.s penetrated the permiter at tht 6th cc. We immediately got dressed and rushed over across the bay to provide security for the area. I was a SP/5, and served as the assistant Supply Sgt. I remember the night that the brother was shot by the capt. at the village gate. My phone is 404-3443-3989.

  • This attack happened about 2 weeks before I arrived at crb air base. I lucked out at crb, only misguided rocket attacks and 2 sapper incursions the whole time. The rockets are the same kind that are now being used by the Arabs against Israel coming from Lebanon. It's a small world after all.

  • I was sationed at the 6th CC, was the duty driver the night of the attack, ended up with an M60 on the water tower on the north end of the compound. Other than that attackThe 6th Comvalescent Center was pretty good duty. Sp5-E5, Barry T. George

  • I was working in the bomb dump that night. We heard mortor rounds coming from the beach and explosions from the hospital area. A C-130 gun ship showed up shortly after the attack, circled all night until the sun came up and then left - never fired a round. The pilot wrote an article in Private Pilots Magazine in the 1980's talking about that night - he was waiting for orders to fire. Great war.

  • I was sent there from Chu Lai in February, 1970. By that time, a big wall had been built along the beach front. Should've been there in the first place. By the time I arrived, the place was out of control. That is, out of the control of the lifers. Just before dusk every night guys gathered at the outdoor movie theater and started getting high. Out in the open. Officers and such just walked right on by.

  • I'm the guy in the sun glass's and the mustashe at the start of this video. I was sent to 6th convalescent center from camp davies where I had come down with hepatitus A from contaminated water. The army played down this attack because it was worst then reported. I was lucky again, not wounded after diving through a screen door in one of the wards that was hit from a sapper. I made it to a bunker where I stayed for hours with another guy from jersey. NEVER let down the guard, many paid for that.

  • Where can I read more information about the Vietnamese sappers? there is not much information available about them in English even though these guys were extremely lethal and experts at infiltration.

  • @titocarrollton Vietnamese sapper = Dac Cong (special operation forces) .You can see rare movie about them (in Russian ) right here /watch?v=fgj05R8BJLE

  • @bangbaohieu Thanks man! I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. Are you Vietnamese?

  • I was at the 6th Convalescent Center from December 68 to March 69 and was a Sergeant (E-5) they would snag me as Sergeant of the Guard. At the time, they had ammunition on a truck but they did not issue it to the guards (permanent cadre who checked a rifle out when they had guard duty). When I questioned not giving ammo to the guards, the response was, "If we are attacked, we will bring them ammo". As Sergeant of the Guard, I was given a 45 Automatic with two loaded magazines... t.

  • Too bad young George Bush wasn't there. He would have taken care or 'em.... er...right?
