hello from australia I was born in lawmoor st in 1958 moved to bishobriggs in the 60s and then australia in the 70s , enjoyed the presentation thank you .
So much for Glasgow benefiting from the Industrial revolution....al that did was make a few individuals very wealthy, while the vast majority of the populace lived in abject misery and poverty.
I wonder if anyone could tell me about Norfolk Street in 1944. I was brought up by my mother at No. 111 until I was adopted at 14 months. Any information, no matter how little, would be wonderful.
I appreciate seeing these photos. I'm able to see many of trhe streets I've read about from 'Gorbals anecdotes.' Brilliant photo of the Toll block, Eginton Street showing the tram shelter. Our Scottish friends are regulars at the Star Bar where you can get a 3 course lunch for £2.50 (Can you believe that?) Have you listened to Robbie Mallon's song 'Eginton Toll' on youtube? - filmed at the Star Bar. Thanks for sharing the photos:)
Memories, met this girl the summer of 58 at Blackpool,i lived and still do,in Scunthorpe down in England, she lived in Bridgeton on James St on the corner of Glasgow Green in a tenement on the third floor. The first time i visited i arrived at ST Enochs station towards dusk, and i decided to walk to take it all in,so i asked the police for directions,as you never saw one always two, they told me to follow the edge of the green, then changed thier minds as i was English and carrying a suit case
When I read No Mean Streets I thought it was a great book, but after I watched the different videos on You Tube about "gangs in Glasgow" it seemed that I wasn't the only person who has read it! I'm sure the book must have influenced (in a bad way) some of the Glasgow youths today, which is a pity, as it doesn't do anything positive for the tourism trade.
the first pic is of my old school..St John's primary..it was in Nicholson St(nee Warwick st) & it had two playgrounds..one on top of the other..I think you can see them in the pic.
I was born in Crown Street in 1958 it's amazing to see it how it was before the old tenemens were destroyed. I remember watching them come down. Thanks for this vid who ever you are 8:)

Interesting choice of music! Antony would have been kicked to death in the Gorbals for being a "poof"
