  • My great great great grandfather was in this battle, got wounded, stayed in the Infantry about another year. Went home married and raised a bunch of kids.

  • i wish i still lived in kennesaw. if i can imma move back one day

  • My great grandfather was wounded in this battle, survived to fight again. N.B. Thompson SCA

  • We all know that thw whole battlefield of Atlanta is city now, but for us civil war buffs we want to go to the places in atlanta were the fighting took place like east of the city where the battle occured and go where the union siege lines were and the confederate positions in atlanta. And places like Resaca,Dalton,Tunnel Hill, Allatoona pass, peachtree creek, where the armies clased as Sherman advanced.

  • Kennesaw was, in my opinion, Sherman's only blunder in his Atlanta campaign. But he carried out his threat that he will make Georgia howl. After a long siege, Atlanta fell and was burned to the ground, Sherman's army destroyed everything that could be used for the Confederate war effort and marched towards Savannah,Ga in his famous march to the sea.

  • A big factor in this battle was when a truce was called. Confederate commanders allowed union wounded to be evacuated from being burned to death from a brushfire. Confederate troops helped in getting the wounded down Kennesaw Mt. This was a good sign of honor among both sides, but the upcoming battle of Atlanta was yet to come.

  • Kennesaw is the most boring place on earth...

  • Continuation.... some also wore it because the Confederates, most of them, weren't issued a huge standard uniform like the Union. A lot of them wore what they had on when they enlisted and used the rifles they brought from the farms. Hope this helps ya. Have anymor question, ask on my profile page man.

  • wow, for foraging apples n stuff thats cool, never knew that. thanks for your help man.

  • Oh, and also letters. A lot of soldiers could easily also carry food that they've foraged, and letters from home and such. When I re-enact, I carry one apple, one hardtack, a "letter from home" and some Civil War currency in it. That's what a lot of the men used when marching and foraging during Sherman's March.

  • sorry, but this re-enactment is hostorically incorrect. a fifer would not carry a rifle like that...maybe not even a weapon at all. and the music was a bit off tune too, but other than that, they did a well-done job. gettysburg had a big band. i'm a federal re-enactor.

  • ChaserRox u said u were a re-enactor then ur prob a good person to ask, why did the confederates and union use those french tiny hats? was it for military-esque organized look or what? and did the confederates go back to the old farmer hats that actually provided shade or did they use the hats that actually served a purpose THEn use the french hats? sorry if this question is a little confusing

  • Well it depends. First off, it was the military fashion of the time, almost every army was wearing some-what similar uniforms, just like how they all wear cammo now, you know? Or during the Revolutionary War, how they all wee tall stockings and a tri-hat or tall hat with the same kind of coats almost? Mainly, the forage caps though made it easy to forage and carry apples in or such. The farmers hats from Confederates, it depends on the division your in. Some were issued it like Federals.

  • well done

  • That fife and drum corps sounds good. Any video of them marching, playing their instrutments?

  • Actually no, this was the last time that they played together.
