its actually North Queensland Aust, see Townsville on the road sign? The reason we drive on the RHS of the truck/car dates back to the first cars, when the controls were out side the car, on the right hand side, but when cabs became enclosed, the controls went inside, and were located in the centre, to the drivers left. Uk, Aust Sth Africa Asia etc, just learned to use their left hand, all the others , switched seats.
@379peterbilt530 The main exports for the Argosy are now Australia, South Africa (where this one is) and New Zealand - the Argosy is now a export only model!
Just too many (distractions) dash guages for me. All that I need is a speedometer, tachometer, fuel, air pressure, temp, alternator, guages. Nice truck though.
How can cat, cummins or detroit use something like a jake brake and it messes up a engine? That's true engineering from the USA and been tested by Engine builders in detroit! An argosy are one of the most productive trucks in S.A(fuel, maintenance,no delays with deliveries and feel at home environment) In S.A you get the 440hp,500hp,530hp and 610hp and the best mountain pass climbers in the world
I used to float gears, but I did not do it with jake on. I used to clutch on a cummins, but when I clutched on a cat with the jake on, the engine cut out. I don't why.
it's just me or bykashka is a retarded?=))))))))) "wrong side of the road" ...it's australia goddamn it! PS idiot...a turbo (the size of a horse that's monted on that cat engine) can produce 20psi+ of boost...
ahhh, the " Agony ", hmmm, just looking over at the passenger side at all the leg room for the unashamed left hand drive, makes me flex my left leg in sympathy!!
Freightliner, please realise that there are other countries out there besides the good ol US of A !! some of us drive on the right side of thre road !!
@spitoinkr i often wonder why the uk, australia, and a few others drive on teh left side of the road. vs the right?, wondered why this was done, i never seem to get the same answer twice lol. love this truck tho. btw, that guard in front, might i ask its use? and does it affect visibility any? kinda reminds me of a moose bar
@jessehodder whic im assuming would be on the right?, left arm held reins or shield? ill be damned this makes perfect sense. and these countries said hell lets just keep on same side as motorists. why fix it if it isnt broken.
@454sskilla I had a c16 in high rise and that would do 220kpa boost and it went hard real hard ate 99 % of other trucks out there even if i was 10 ton heavier 2.02 km per litre was average even from day one did just under 500,000 km in it.
Now, that is some great driving! Usin' the Jake and downgearing to save the service brakes, then progressive shifting--this guy (or lady) is a gearjammer!
You think a C16 is powerful? Dad knows a wood chipper that has an industrial C18that is set at 780 hp stock. That will kick the KTA's cummins ass. Sad, but true.
well yeah they have chippers diesel up to 1000 hp in the uk i think.but the only truck engine highway engine ive seen is a 700 hp kw on youtube .but i just love cats no matter what anyone says bad about them .they are powerful torque wise
quien es el idiota que activa los jake brake con ese pabimento yan mojado eso es lo peor nunca se recomienda hacer esa manibra pero de que suenan de pelos suenan pero en esas condiciones nooooooooooo
Because of the braking power of the jakes the back wheels of the truck will sometimes lock if the road is wet and slippery. But if you are an experience driver you will immediately "feel" this happen and deactivate the jakes either by depressing the clutch just a quarter of a inch or by switching the jakes off on the dashboard.
Yeah, you're right, it works with oil pressure and once you're drivin' a truck and the oil pressure goes belows normal the first thing to stop working right, is the jake brake. A solenoid on top of the valves is activated and with the power of the oil pressure it closes the outlet valves of the engine and this biuld-up of compressed air in the engine on top of the cylinders is used to retard the engine.
South Africa, I feel sorry for all those who live there and try to make a life for themselves. It is a beautiful country in a world of political, criminal and ethnic shit. Be safe out there and enjoy the scenery, some of the earth's best.
i have a c-15 single turbo with 550hp and 1850trq cat in a 2004 kenworth t-600 and i out pull 515 detroits and 525 isx cummins all day. if that 3406e kept blowing head gaskets more than likely they were not put on right. i have a friend that has a 600 cummins in a 2008 W900L and its making the same torque that i am.
essentially the same as in cars. the roadranger autoshift is quite clever though how it can determine a starting gear from load. but yip, once you know how to use one unless your lazy its just gotta be manual.
elcamino1966350 all i can say is...your ignorant. Cummins is a good diesel but the cat is capable of much more torque and power. You've probably never even sat in control of a big CAT. What you did to reach your conclusion???you must have graduated from WYO Tech of something...LOL!!!
Buildings, shacks, stadions, skyscrapers, but mostly shacks from the squatters..! Just kiddin'. No, we are supposed to be a 3rd world country. Just not that many two lane highways here as in the USA.
Go and have a listen then at my other video of the FLD120 with the N14 Cummins. That one's loud going down the mountain pass with the jakes resonating against the side of the mountain. When I drive, I hardly listen to music. I only listen to the engine and the straight pipes. Don't drive so much anymore, but when I do, I prevere to listen to the engine. Then the MP3 player with 6x9's and sub and amp can wait. No substitute for pure hardcore engine noise. Anyway, the CAT will always be my engine.
I guess that your the one with the degree, boy! Must have "years" of experience with engines then. Pitty your only wet behind the ears and bad mouthin' other peoples pride and with what real experience?
my pa has been drivin for 25 years and i have been drivin for 5 years the old cats were good and strong. we owned 1 3406E and yes it was a big piece of shit, kept blowin head gaskets. and series 60 are good on mpg but not really great for power and torque. the ISX does have good mpg, great hp, and great torque
That's what I'd expect someone without a CAT to say. CAT engines are the best. Don't get me wrong, Cummins and Detroit also make very good engines, but there's no way you can insult a CAT!
Nope, that's the handbrake lever on the far left of the dash. In South Africa the SABS does not allow the red and yellow handbrake knobs that the truck is fitted in the USA.
Ok, thanks. Now that I think about it, I think I have seen that type of lever used on the Renault trucks here in the US, but I am not sure - memory is fading.
Tell you what though, if you have a 5.1 surround sound with a powerful subwoofer, to listen to this, the bass frequency would offer a feel like you were sitting on an Harley Davidson while listening to your progressive shifting.
Comes through loud and clear - I've always been a CAT man myself. But an ol' Detroit can be fun, too.
Fitted with a Smart Shift gearstick (righthandside of stearing wheel) from Freightliner. Can either shift manual or automatic. This Argosy pulls a tri axle fridge and is loaded to the limit most of the times. Have to keep the revs to 1350 at 88km/h (55mph) and drive though there's an egg under the accellarator. Once you hammer these big C16's you will get around 4.4mpg. But its sometimes worth it when passing other slower trucks or even a car.

how do jake brakes work?
is it an oil pressure thing?
(i've never ever driven a truck, but it looks skill intensive and i believe that a well rested trucker is one of the best drivers on the road)

Yeah, you're right, it works with oil pressure and once you're drivin' a truck and the oil pressure goes belows normal the first thing to stop working right, is the jake brake.
