  • @trickykid73, Lady Hamilton (neé Amy Lyons) was the wife of Lord Hamilton and the mistress of Admiral Horatio Nelson. She was born poor, and had an early job posing as a nude model for a quack doctor. She was very beautiful and became the mistress of an English nobleman. The nobleman had to get rid of her when he needed to marry a wealthy girl, so he sent her to Naples to be the mistress of his uncle, Lord Hamilton, without telling her why she was going. She was furious when she found out, but

  • I bet you say that about all the actors from blackadder series 3

  • Blackadder is such an awesome series. I'm a sucker for Brittish comedy, but it's just filled with awesome actors and it has such black/dark humor at times.

  • BEEEH

  • He played comedic roles and nitwits in his younger years, and now has the gravity to play a character like House. Laurie is one of those actors, like Clooney and Downey Jr. who's gotten better-looking and sexier with age.

  • Who the hell was Lady Hamilton ?

  • OK, the shows are way different, and both great, OK !!! I love House, and Blackadder is hilarious, so don't piss on good shows! Both great, in their, own way!!!

    @pretorious700 @Antipsychiatry123

  • I love house, but nothing will ever top Laurie's performance as the Prince Regent in Blackadder.

  • Lot's of racist british people in here.

  • American network TV=bollocks

  • The Prince regent may be my all time favorite TV character. So sublimely dense, he's what the Brits affectionately call a "thicky".

  • Lol

  • I FUCKING LOVE BLACK ADDER- The whole series was GENIUS!

  • Now that Cuddy is gone from House, am I the only one who thinks it would be awesome if Fry or Atkinson showed up as the new hospital administrator who is every bit as arrogant and obnoxious as House?

  • @dkupke as delightful as that would be, however, I think House fans would get upset, and the entire tenor of the series would shift from "loose cannon genius" to "Blackadder: Hospital Edition" I welcome the change!

  • Great!! I never seen this before, i've seen pretty much everything with hugh or fry in it

  • @lennartz79

Listen. Watch the whole series if you can. Every era is slightly different from the next, but all are equally brilliant in my opinion. And so damn funny! Watch it if you can, it'll be well worth your time.

  • @Domzdream Yep, Blackadder Goes Forth is my favorite....I own them all.

  • I am a big fan of Hugh Laurie!! Blackadder or House. He is awesome!

  • Why does this video black out every now and again?

  • ive never seen two comments more worthy of being the top comments. both so true

  • @puffin51 No Heaven, soz.

  • That's the thing about "Blackadder Goes Forth". The soldiers of WW1 watching from Heaven - they're all in heaven because they'd been through hell already - are all laughing their tits off. It says what they were saying - different style, maybe, but the same ideas. It's their voice. And without a word of a lie, it's deeply respectful of them.

  • Holy dead Canadians.

  • @ashburnhouse yeh lots of canadians got mowed down too :(

  • Wow... Baldrick is Bald... Ironic.

  • at 2:22 is that robbie coltrane?

  • @PRINCEMISHKEN Yes, it is.

  • BEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHH XD

  • Fascinating... as is the move from comic buffoon to sharp-edged dramatic doctor with an American accent. Hugh Laurie is a great actor.

  • I always find it odd that laurie plays and idiot in most of his british roles but send him across the pond and he's suddenly the smartest man in the room

  • @3isnotaletter Perhaps their is something to be learned from this.;)

  • @3isnotaletter sign of a good actor

  • @3isnotaletter Amazing what a British accent will do for the American public ... :o)

  • @3isnotaletter true that

  • @3isnotaletter Isn't being able to play a multitude of character types the sign of a good actor?

  • @3isnotaletter And idiot in Britain is a genius in America :)

  • @prokentsful what a load of nonsense! I follow Stephen fry's every move and he has never said that!

  • Who gives a shit if Hugh has turned to be "more american" after his success with House. People change and we all have to realize that Blackadder is history now allthough it´s still one of the best series ever made...

The worst thing he or Atkinsson could do is to start making new Blackadder episodes.

It will just falls flat after all these years...

  • whats the name of the song at the begining?

  • So sad that he sold out to America.

Now he's doing House which isn't even funny in the slightest...

  • @prokentsful You dumbass, he sold out ? he had nothing going for him at all and he picked a high paying job in american TV, I new who he was before house but your and idiot not to take the job, stupidest thing I ever heard, thats like someone selling out from a job at mcdonalds because you won the lottery....

  • @Afroman018 He sold out because he's no longer in comedy. He's in a shitty American soap opera... which isn't funny in the slightest.

If you've seen Blackadder or A bit of Fry and Laurie then you would understand where I'm coming from.

He should have never been in House. It was a great move for his career, but a horrible move for his fans.

  • @prokentsful I have the fry and laurie boxset and it is hilarious and i love it, but House is great too its one of america's top shows and he never left england, he even has said in the past he can't wait to return to england and do comedy again, House is a good show its not whats NOT good its what you personally like

  • I like to know that I knew hugh laurie befoore I knew about house.

  • Hugh got much better at acting.

Roan and Tony did most of the work.

Do you want some rat o van?

    What is rat o van?

Well it is a rat and it was run over by a van.

  • @AlekSensej You can't possibly suggest that Tony Robinson was any worse than them.

The man's a bloody genius, nodody can play an idiot like him.

  • @rahagbab Do you really think that his level of abstract craziness can come close to Rowans Mr.Bean, or to Robins genie of the lamp or to his latest roll as Dr. House?

  • Comment removed

  • @AlekSensej Not any more, probably.

But Robinson was damn good actor, whenever I heard the words "cunning plan", I would be glued to the seat.

  • Whats the name of the song at the beginning of the video?? Must be an old 80ies song??

  • @Balutheswabian

The Human League - Love action (I believe in love).

  • @PatanaGore Thx!!!!

  • To clarify the problem with the "Pal's Brigades" concept: it made reinforcing understrength units difficult.

Generally speaking, though, it WAS an incentive to recruitment. People would be more likely to join up if they knew they'd be training, living, and fighting with people they already knew.

...It's the same as anything, really. People do better in a comfort zone.

  • I bought the box set and kind of wished this doco was on it as a bonus. Kinda feel jipped off!

  • I'm American and I feel that British comedy is much smarter and well done than American comedy! Blackadder, Keeping Up Appearances and Ace Rimmer have me in stitches!

  • Blackadder is easily 5,000 times better than "House".

  • @pretorious700 But they're, uh, they're entirely different shows in entirely different genres

  • @pretorious700 the shows are so different that they cannot even be compared

  • @phillipchew1 yeah, one is brilliant, the other is shite. You're right-no comparison.

  • @pretorious700 Hugh Laurie needs to go back to do the George/Wooster stuff like he did in the old days.

  • @pretorious700 How you now can compare comedy to drama

  • @frameloose2 lol, you think House is "drama"?

  • @pretorious700

    especially with prince

  • @pretorious700 different cant really compare those two i think

  • @pretorious700 You can't compare them to each other. They're both completely different TV series.

  • @pretorious700

Nah, oranges and apples. They are 2 completely diffrent TV shows. You might like one over the other but saying one is better then the other nah.

  • @pretorious700

Blackadder is shit compared to House. Kill yourself.

  • The dimensions of this are way off. Is there a better version of this?

  • I've noticed that now Hugh's voice sounds a lot more like House than even Maybe Baby, which was barely even before House IIRC, not to mention in Blackadder.

  • Love the cleaned up Baldrick!

  • Rowan Atkinson sounds funnier when he talks.

  • @WinnieNotThePooh Well that makes sense doesn't it? He's rather quiet when he doesn't!

  • Blackadder goes forth is very very very underrated. I think there is a depth to it that makes it different from the other Blackadders. I love them all though.

  • This is the first I've ever heard of "Blackadder" Where can I download it?!?!

  • @ilykitwenppltrnmeon Or you can buy the DVD box set and reward these fantastic actors and writers for one of the greatest comedys of all time.

But if you do really want to download it then don't hesitate to get lost.

  • @ilykitwenppltrnmeon Buy the DVD.

  • @ilykitwenppltrnmeon i watched the whole season of blackadder goes forth right here on youtube

  • gregory house a descendant of king george

  • Seriously, my top three comedy series are Blackadder, The Office and Spaced, in that order. I love Blackadder, so much so that when I left for uni and couldnt take my parents boxset, I bought my own.

  • They are available on DVD, on amazon i think... i have it and im watching this just because he's so great, i think it's sad that he's totally lost the accent but nevertheless, still my favorite actor

  • @2:30 we see precisely where Ardal O'hanlon found his inspiration for "Father Dougal". Hugh Laurie is brilliant, someone I'd love to meet and have a beer with!

  • What I love -- and can't figure out -- is that Hugh Laurie does not look like "House." Bertie Wooster and Prince George/Lt. George resemble each other a great deal. But even with the same, scraggly, half-beard, when Hugh isn't actively playing "House," he doesn't really LOOK like him. He somehow, in little ways, changes his features when he's playing that character in a way he didn't in those previous roles. His voice even changes, and I don't mean the accent. It's just remarkable.

  • Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson so need to be guests on House one day

  • @dkupke Yes! YES!

  • @dkupke That's what im talking about... especially in season 8!!!!

  • @dkupke

i totally support this idea! adding some hints at blackadder in house would be great..

i know of one where house is disguised as george(?)

  • @dkupke Don't forget Tony Robinson, it would be epic if House would have to remove a big turnip from Baldricks head

  • @dkupke Stephen Fry said that he met up with Hugh Laurie recently but he wasn't the same person.

Steven Fry said that he's become 'An American Citizen'.

So I doubt that we will ever see them together again. =(

  • @dkupke and with an american accent, all 3 of them

  • @dkupke Stephen Fry's on Bones occassionally

  • @dkupke Stephen has been said to be threatening Hugh to appear as House's cleverer older brother.

  • Eff me, that was loud

  • No freaking way.

I did not like him as much in black adder as much i like him in house.

He was not a good actor in those days.

Now he has changed so much he is not the same person he was and i like it.

  • I love Blackadder its my favourite tv show ever and its a great example of our British humour

  • Whats the name of the song at the beggining?? Anyone please? :)

  • @elliosano It's a Human League song which I think is named Fascination but don't hold me to that.

  • @Stangelycoloured Thanks stranelycoloured.. I have looked or rather listened around and its Love action by The Human League...

  • @elliosano The song is 'Love Action' by the Human League

  • JESUS BALLS the dumbass prince regent is now Dr. house?

    huh

thats a kick in the pants

  • Blackadder is brilliant & underrated -Would love them to make more.

These days most entertainment/comedy is so disappointing

  • mind blowing to hear baldrick speak intelligently. love him

  • @MissExecutive If you think that's mind blowing, time team is a no-go.

  • I actualy like him more in Blackadder series than in Dr.House

  • Once more i say, Rowan needs to make an appearance on House

  • @GabrielKnightz YEEEESSS! I AGREE!

  • great gaping holes throughout. Otherwise, enjoyable to watch!

  • Anyone else notice he was doing house's limp 0.30-0.35? Thats dedication

  • @nutsypanda That's not dedication. He is really hurting his leg for limping 14 hours a day!! The articulation gets worn.

  • 5:45 beeeeee

  • Melchett's crazy sheep noises.

  • Love Hugh Laurie, but I am very bored with House. The character is great but for the rest of the show the novelty wore off after a couple of seasons: now it is just another American medical drama. Stuff like Blackadder, ABOFAL and Peters Friends is where Hugh is at his best.

  • 4:38 I've been there, its in ypres, and its massive

  • @wiggaroo Year 9 school trip by any chance?

  • @FGP02 for me year 10. A quotation from the last Blackadder was on our mock exam.

  • I've tried playing Blackadder to my American wife and her brother. Neither of them liked it. Her brother loves Mr. Bean, but fell asleep during Blackadder. Go figure. I cannot. On the other hand most American comedy leaves me cold - the exceptions being Mash, Cheers, Taxi. I think there's something about self-deprecation that irks Americans. Perhaps all a question of ego, a thing that they suffer from, in spades.

  • BAAAA

  • It's weird hearing Hugh Laurie speak in a British accent. The first time I seen him in anything that I remembered him as an actor was House, so it blew my mind years later when I found out he was actually a comedian.

  • @crusader8463 With me it was the other way around

I was used to seeing him in Blackadder and it took me about 2 or 3 episodes of House before I realized it was him and even then I could hardly believe it =D

  • Thanks for uploadinggggggggg

  • That music at the beginning...urgh!

  • mmmmmm very sexy hugh laurie!!! rowarrrrrrrrr!!!!!

  • it's sad to see that americans only see blackadder as a combination of house and mr bean...

  • @bassetts1899 He also races cars. :D

  • Great show with legendary actors

  • Thanks for uploading :)

  • Stephen Fry was in his twenties? He looked more like he was at least in his late 30's and early 40's. Gawd I don't watch House at all, and it never dawned on me that Hugh Laurie was playing him. He does a great American accent.

  • mmmm Hugh Laurie. What a beautiful man.

  • Prince George was so funny. A perfect contrast to scheming and sarcastic Blackadder

  • Here's something, what would happen if House met George? Man the feathers would fly, because George is a bithering idiot and House doesn't suffer fools gladly. Not that I'm sure George would understand a thing House is saying.

  • Like most, Laurie's best days were here in Black Adder, Wooster, and earlier. The irony of his "celebrity" in House in America, is that in the early 80's series "Fry and Laurie", Hugh Laurie was playing American actors in sketches that were openly spoofing the very American crap he ended up ulitmately playing.

  • hugh laurie is one great actor.

i loved to watch him in "jeeves and wooster" with fry :)

  • Hehe, it's all wrong this side of Laurie :P English accent and acting in Black Adder (however great Black Adder is of course, yes it is).

  • 'It's an extraordinary gift.' :)

  • All the Blackadder cast was exceptional, especially Stephen Fry's brilliant portrayal of General Melchett!

  • I loathe the whole thing about how in 2002 when Laurie was on Friends Rachel Green is nobody, now Hugh is amazing because he is House. Blackadder was on before friends, and wholly superior to in, in 2002 Hugh Laurie was superior to Anniston in every way.

    Love Baldrick not being thick.

  • the best series

  • I love the prince regent... he has spunk.

  • Hugh is the best.

  • Hagrid!

  • I absolutlie ADMIRED Hugh Laurie in hes reincarnations in Blackadder, young, working, talented actor.

However in the opposite side 20 years later i can never say the same for doctor House who's character i somehow just can't stand to watch due to the fact that House is too popular in the US.

  • Never watched House, but don't worry, we in the US don't let what is popular in the UK affect us at all.

  • beeehh

  • thanks for posting this! I am a new American fan of the show. Series 4 is amazing. I love the entire cast!!! (Hurrah for Prince George)

  • It's a pity the four Blackadder series are not better known in the States. They are very funny and in the best traditions of British humour. Probably the best comedy since the classic Monty Python productions.

  • In the late eighties, American cable network A&E showed all four Blackadder series, albiet edited for American audiences. However, they never showed the episode from the second series where Edmond was trying to curry favor with his wealthy fanatical Puritan relatives while hosting a party of drunken rowdies at the same time (for which Laurie was casted as one of the drunkards, ironically enough). This was when A&E was a network that showed quality programs instead of the crap they have on now.

  • @76juno Indeed. My cousin recently married a British man and while discussing UK TV he introduced me to this awesome show

  • @hathawbj I'm pleased you like it. The first series isn't great but that's probably because they were still developing the characters at that early stage. The final series "Blackadder Goes Forth" is a work of comedy art and the final episode where they go "over the top" makes you laugh and cry at the same time. Pure genius.

  • @76juno: "Blackadder" is very enjoyable but I like "A bit of Fry & Laurie" much better: More variety, more insanity... Just love it.

  • @76juno Bloody hell, is it? Where abouts?

  • @76juno Baay !

  • @76juno I agree. Especially the forth series, which is a masterpiece, maybe the best collection of comedy writers and actors ever.

I like House, but for me the things Laurie did together with his (probably best) friend Stephen Fry, is his best work. Jeeves & Wooster, A bit of fry and laurie, and the 4. blackadder.

  • @higfny the 4th series was a tragedy, that's why it was so funny!

  • @76juno I totally agree with this...and it's a shame it took so long for Hugh to become a household name here in the states [and so many people have no clue he's even English, much less a comedian]. I loved Blackadder, George was a great character.

  • @76juno Well those who do know it love it:)

  • @76juno As an American I can proudly say that Blackadder, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, are just some of the funniest comdey series ever produced. let's not leave out Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster, The Two Ronnies Benny Hill. I can go on and on. Americans have finally got to wake up and realize that so much of our "classic" comedies were directly stolen from our friends across the big pond. Long Live British Comedy!!

  • @76juno i know! i was shocked that mr. bean got rowan atkinson famous in the states instead of this. all he did in that was go on the set and act like an idiot

  • @76juno It's probably because of the very british humour. Monty Python itself had to be forced down americas throat and that was without the many years of english history.

But I do agree, Blackadder is one of the greatest comedys of all time, It made comedy out of tradgedy. Completely, completely amazing.

  • @76juno Hostly I think A Bit of Fry & Laure, Little Britain and The League of Gentleman are more in the vein of Python but yes Blackadder is damn relevant.

  • @Diggensek And don't forget Jeeves and Wooster...

  • bit weird seeing Blackadder as a simple stepping stone to House... Blackadder is huge in the UK and is probably in higher regard than the House series..

Also Fry is equally amazing, but doesnt't get the credit over the pond...

  • @freekicking85 You're right about that, Blackadder is a series from before I was born, but is still huge loved by the teens and twenty somethings, for a combination of the brilliance of all the actors, and of course Mr. Rowan Atkinson's amazing writing. It's sad that all he's known for in the US seems to be that stupid Mr. Bean. I like House too, but it is not on the same plane as Blackadder or Fry & Laurie.

  • its a well known euphamism for the atlantic ocean.

  • john lloyd should be knighted

  • @gossieuk Agreed

  • BEEH!

  • He was also in the Black Adder goes Fourth!

  • all these guys have come a long way since Blackadder

  • Seeing Hugh Laurie as the stupid Prince George in the Blackadder the Third series, then contrasting it to his character of Dr. Gregory House in the Fox series. Wow! Hugh Laurie is a major talent.

  • @sarniatownreggae Exactly my taughts too!

  • Love him, and all the Blackadder guys. That last episode was a heartbreaker.

  • @badmovebaker I know what u mean. That last episode really got to me
