The VA Appeals system takes, on average, 2 years to make a decision.

I called my Congressman's office (Tonko, NY, 21st District) 6 months after going before a VA Judge and THREE DAYS LATER they made a decision to up my PTSD rating from 30% to 50%.

If I get 4 years of retro disability pay is another story, but if you make the system work for you, shit gets done.

I've been fighting the VA for a higher disability rating for my;PTSD,TBI,ankles, knees, and back, and have been slow balled all the way.

First thing you need to do is get an American Legion VA Rep to fight for you.

Second, call your Congress person and tell them you are a young Vet and you need help getting shit done.

Do this and shit will get done, if not then you are a sucker, sorry and you are welcome.

The VA has many different arms,if you will. This report isn't saying that this veteran received bad health care. What they are saying is that the compensation and pension section of the VA is not responding as it should to the needs of veterans.

My step father works at a VA in Arizona and is always talking about the lack of staff and long wait times most vets have to deal with.

I'm not sure how you call this "crap" if you actually listened to it. I recently had a traumatic head injury and I can tell you first had, that it can be hard dealing with many of the post concussion syndrome problems. Add to that Post traumatic stress syndrome, and I can't blame anyone for asking for additional medical help.

However, I've met many Vet's that haven't had many good experience with the VA, so I would suggest that a closer look at the issue is warranted.

Plus, if the treatment of this ex soldier is anything near what this video portrays, as an American I am outraged.

The VA's only problem is inconsistency. I go there and have had no problem getting treatment or compensation. They are a little slow right now but thats just because of the influx of people. You have hundreds of thousands of cases where before there were thousands. That and traumatic brain injury is a relatively new medical diagnoses. It takes a set amount of time before standardization of treatment and benefits will come about.

my best friend returned from Iraq having been shot 3 times. They shot him up with so much morphine in the hospital, he became addicted. He came home and ended up being a druggie and was busted for possession of a controlled substance, so the VA dropped all of his benefits because he got a criminal record.

It's bullshit, I've known the guy since we were 6, and he's always been a straight, clean guy. Now he's a multiple felon, on probation that cant find a job. It's fucking pathetic
