Cool video nice looking explorer .I have a 94 with 31's am going to try to go higher soon . as for the people who think they know every thing about off road driving well they must not have ever been on a leaf coverd wv hill side I live about 20 miles from swiss and that is rough slick country down there so cool video and the all the negative commenters who cares anyway thanks for the video
and may i add to 77winklemans comment this song sux balls id rather have everybody not have any sound on there videos instead of this fucking gay ass song
Do you have all 4 diffs locked on your explorer? cause if you dont i would advise it, can dominate any terrain.. no way of getting stuck when your in a light vehicle and all diffs are locked
Love the explorer! I'm what my g/f says is "obsessed" with'em lol. They definitely look better SAS'd I've often thought of taking one of mine and doing a D30 since I only do mild off road but read on EF that the IFS D35 is stronger than the D30 Did you get the HD done yet?
really nice explorer!!!! i've been kicking the idea of doing a SAS on my 94,,,,I was planning on using a d44 and a 9" out of a 79 f150,,full width,, the only thing stopping me is im just not sure of the "total cost involved",,,, i've guestimated and added up everything that is nescessary and im at 2000 bux, with driveshafts,,,, but that is NOT including gears or tires,,, plus it is my daily driver,, so i really dont want to void all practicality,,can yours drive at freeway speeds comfortibly?
I know someone with a 95 sport SAS'd and she said its like both hands on the wheel all the time its not worth doing unless you're doing 100% right and even then it won't handle the same.
@siTTinLo420 i have a 94 with what u want i run 37 boggers and walked that very same spot and did not break traction.. i have 514 gears and it is to low geared for freeway use it will turn 3500 rpm at about 63.. i think 456 and 35s would be road worthy..
Couple quick questions though...What gears are you running? What leafs did you use? Did you use the steering box out of the first gen? And i assume you went sprung over in the rear so i was just wondering if you had to get your driveshaft lengthened?? sorry about the load of questions ive just never had contact with someone with an sas sport
The gears in it in the videos are 5.13, but I changing to 5.38. I've learned go as low as possible. The rear leaf springs are 4" lift springs from superlift, when I bought it that's what was on it. Also in the video it is a first generation steering box, but again I've been upgrading and I have found a 79 F150 box that works a little better, it mounts on the outside of the frame. As for the driveshaft, I did not modify it at first, it was a little too short, but was ok for street driving.
It handles decent, its no sports car to start with. The only small problem with the handling was my track bar was a little short, big bumps would make the truck bounce a little funny. If you use a Dana 30, try to get the track bar with it, then you will just need the frame side mount.
This is my next mod to my sport when i get the motivation...Right now ive got the 3" body 2 inch tt, with custom leafs in the rear and 33's...The only thing holding me back from throwing a waggy 44 under it, aside from motivation is the fact that i beat the living fuck out of it and ive never broken anything in the ifs, or one the truck for that matter. Ive had an alternator die...Anyway your truck is exactly what i want mine to be. good work man
The original axle swap was a Dana 30 from a jeep cherokee, but I kept breaking axles. The axle in this video is a Dana 44 from an early bronco, 66-77. I am currently in the process of a new swap, a HD Dana 44 from a 79 F250.
thanks a lot! awsome!!! , and the dana 30 from de cherokee fit fine? or you have to cut some to short it out? is not to big? or to short so you have to put some spacers on it? thank you so much! im trying to swap my cv-shaft for a solid axle! and you are helping a lot with all your information!
The Dana 30 was a nice width, it fit well and the wheel bolt pattern is the same as the rear. You will lose your ABS brakes though. I'm sure I have some pictures I can Email to you if you want.
there are a couple diffrent ways to lift an explorer. CHeepest and easiest is a TT and Shackle lift. TT stands for Torsion Twist, if you tighten your torsion bars down you can lift it up to 2 inches in the front DONT GO ANY HIGHER THAN 2 In the front! and for the rear you can get lift shackles for 20-70 bucks and there you have a 2 inch suspension lift and then you get a 3 inch body lift from Performance Accesories for about 200 and fit 33 inch tires under it, message me for more info.

it is a 96 explorer. Tires are Q78x16 Super Swamper TSLs. The lift is custom built, by me of course. It is about 10 inches, but I never measures.
