@fordfreak17 I sold that General to get another one... bigger motor, long hood, longer wheel base, and a sleeper. I have videos of the "new" one on here.
@caseman1134 Yes you did! I wrote that story for Double Clutch magazine put out by the ATCA. My wife submitted it to Farm and Ranch and it also appeared in Highway News and Good News, TFC's magazine. It's amazing I still get people say they read the article somewhere!
beware of those cheap nylon straps! I almost lost a bobcat with those, then I pulled out the chains since the straps fell off somewhere on the highway
@theguyfromavonlake I know they cut easy if you have them on something even remotely sharp. I have nylon sleeves on most of mine to be against whatever would be against the strap and I use heavy cardboard or plastic edge protectors also when it looks sharp. Thanks for the warning though... every one needs to know they aren't the same as chains.
@undertuker13 I sold the truck in this video, but I actually have two more now and soon I will be selling one of them. I don't have a video up yet of the one I will be selling, but if you like the GMC's there are plenty more videos on my channel with my latest General and if you really want to buy one let me know.
@undertuker13 Hey, I bought my first car at age 12... in my book you are running behind! If you find one that needs work now, you can get it cheaper and have it running by the time you turn 16. Do you get any of the old truck magazines, Double Clutch, Wheels of Time, or Old Time Trucks? Great magazines with old trucks and often you can find local chapters to get together with local people with the love of old trucks like yours. Check them out.
@undertuker13 Wheels of Time is put out by the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) and Double Clutch is put out by Antique Truck Club of America (ATCA), and Old Time Trucks is the name of the magazine and the club. Check them out, they are all good!
Thanks! I agree with you about the driving, we usually try to gather a few friends together when we head to shows. I see you are from Pa... do you ever get to the Grease Steam and Rust tractor show in McConnellsburg in October? We have gone every year for the last 16 years and spend the weekend, except for this year because of the rain!
Yes I have been to the Grease Steam and Rust Show. I found out about it a few years ago and the first year I went the featured Massey Harris. I wanted to bring a tractor last time, but the rain put a stop to all of that. great show and love the big parade as well. What part of Pa are you from? I'm from Greensburg (40 miles east of Pittsburgh
We are from the Lebanon/Lancaster county area. Except for last year we are always there. We park down on the pavement beside that buisness. It is where alot of campers park as well. That way when it rains we can get the big trucks out. Dad has a Massey 44 Diesel, I have an Allis RC & a C, a JD H, and I just got a Farmall F-12. I had a Farmall Super M but sold it. Friends have these tractors: JD D, Farmall Cub, Farmall M, Sheppard Diesel, bunch of Cases & Cockshutt diesels. Maybe you saw some.
A General convoy would be awesome! Count me in! I even have an extra one someone else can drive. We should also include the Chevy Bison. Let me know when you set something up... :>)
GREAT VIDEO!! JERRY REED THE THEME SONG FROM SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT!! GMC General 5 star and KW C/O!! If there is awards for good video for trucks I think you should be nominated!
That is a Rumley Oil Pull and it is me driving. I was very thankful to him for letting me run it and after I parked it, he told me that he had recently got it and that even he had not driven it that far before!!
The Great Jerry Reed....Really Enjoyed the Music and the Vid, Started My Boyhood Dream out in 1985 with a 1971 KW with 335 cummins and a 9 spd. Now I need another One to Carry My Antique Tractors to the Shows. Good Job Guys.
Thanks! Your story sounds familiar... we got into antique semi trucks, because we suddenly had too many antique tractors to haul with a pick-up truck and trailer. This way looks cooler too!!
It is a '65 with newer front fenders. You can check out more of his truck... look for DingleKW in my friends. That is his channel and he has some good videos of his truck and others on there as well.
Yes it sure did pull great! I had to keep letting off at the top of the hills to wait for the KW ;>)! The KW has a V8 Detroit and runs great as well. Thanks for the comments.
haha them Detroits were the screamers. but id take a Cummins over anything. in my opinion, they pull the best and run the best. one thing about the cab-over's, they were bug catchers haha my dad ran an '88 K100 with a 315 Cummins and every time he'd clean the windshield, more bugs would splat on it haha. hey, a 5 star General makes a 5 star video!!!!
DingleKW just had to use age as an excuse ;>) ! It was a fun run! I will actually be posting a video of his truck soon. Thanks for all the compliments!
The guys who moved the tractors for me are just a great bunch of guys...and they make a great video with really cool music. Maybe Smokey and the Bandit should have included a rig hauling old tractors as part of the convoy that "hid" Bandit on the Interstate chase scene!
Nothing like the good old days of trucking!

Makes me wish I A) had the know how to work on the old trucks, not just drive a truck, and B) the room to keep one!
Steelgears13 2 years ago
As far as how to work on them, the older they are the simpler they are. If you had the opportunity to work on one, I'm sure you would figure it out.
But... I have the same problem with the storage issue as well. They're BIG!
