I'm beginning to think that this or the train parts in "Dumbo" got me loving trains. Also,Walt Disney got this wrong. Casey Jones crashed into a freight train at the end of the train, not head on.

the reason they cant make them like this anymore is because there are hardly anymore animators. It takes many years of study to master traditional animation and Disney stopped their apprenticeship programs. There are very few places which offer traditional training because people got in charge who do not see the monetary value in training others in the artform the company pioneered. Even Calarts, the school that Walt made to train animators, has now become a house of elitism and politics.

I remember watching this along with all those other classic american west disney cartoons back in the 80's with my grandpa. back before most people had cable, he had a satellite which he recorded alot of these from. i'd always look forward to spending the weekend over there and watching these great cartoons. i also love them because them were produced in a time before political correctness had taken over society, forcing people to be ashamed about their country and history.
