  • @marissaxoxo52511 Capitalize Jesus's name, please.

  • This is my fav Religous song <3

  • I actually like this live version better than the studio version that's on White Limozeen. I'm not religious by any stretch of the imagination, but the first time I heard this (I remember it was on VideoMorning on CMT, any of you guys remember that show?), it gave me chills.

  • ok this is deffo in my top 10..down from dover, slow dancing with the moon, eagle when she flies, deffo appalchian memories...any more suggestions i also like better get to livin' and made of stone..god dolly has TOO many songs lol

  • I remember watching this, back in '89, as well. The first time I saw this performance, it made the hair on my neck stand up. All these years later, I am still amazed at Dolly's perfect performance...the fact it was performed live just adds to how talented this woman is. Forever a Dolly Parton fan...

  • WOw I miss the days I could flick on the TV and ther'd be an all star cast singing the praises without one profanity and all to the Glory of our Savior AMEN! Come Lord Jesus so we can get our our good old fashioned variety shows back

  • AMEN...THE TRUTH

  • I remember watching this CMA award show, live on TV. My hair stood on end and I could feel the Holy Spirit in my heart when she sang this. Wow...so powerful. Thanks Dolly and thank piamn77 for posting.

  • WOW! If that don't get your stirred up in the spirit then your salad spoon done fell out!! AWESOME PERFORMANCE DOLLY!!

  • god is love,he is alive, and he loves us. john 3:16.:))

  • nope chuck testa

  • You might like not Dolly or you love her but Dolly sings this song from her heart and you can feel her love for God!!..Plus every cds Dolly makes Dolly sings a song about Gods love and CMA awards told Dolly they didnt want her to sing this song and Dolly said then i wont go on stage but Dolly got her way and Dolly sang it so beautiful !! Wish other big singers like Dolly and stand up for what you believe and Dolly loves God!!!..THANK YOU GOD AND DOLLY FOR SINGING BEAUTIFUL ABOUT YOUR LOVE!!

  • @ bharfar i have never received such an insightive comment, i dont do 'religion' in a conventional much contrived sense, just this one song 'moves' me, guess i need more inner inflection x

  • @dollynutter ...your words are kind.................suppose IT really happened. Staggering.

  • Yep Don Fransisco did an awsome job writing this song so many were blessed by it and so many also sang it he needs to get the credit for all of it not saying dolly is a bad singer.

  • yes he is !!!

  • I cant repeat enought, this song is so envocative! im not sreligious but can be spiritualist, esp given this song xxxx

  • @dollynutter what you perceive to be "religious" is not at all, except for some traits, ideas, sounds you associate with that idea. Further, naming someone or something as "religious" is sometimes a subconscious way of distancing oneself from the ideas the "religious" might maintain, a sort of way of not having to think about it. Now more than ever every individual must think about their status with God....I'm going to do that today - we don't know how much time we each have here.

  • You done very well. The best song she ever did in my opinion. I love this and ty for posting.

  • @MrRoxie2009 Actually, the song originally done by Don Francisco

  • LETS SEE BRITNEY TRY THAT

  • @1IIIIIIIIII1 Britanny Spears? I doubt it, since she is a walking, talking turnip.

  • There are no words in the English language to describe this but my best try would be---"A woman gave gave the voice of an ANGEL to and a song inspired by God, Himself."

  • So Dolly was always beautiful woman even when she was poor and yes she always had big boobs even when she was younger so Dolly wears make- up but look at every woman they have some make up on..Dolly might wear makeup but God gave her a beautiful voice and she shows it singing for God even on tv she give Thanks for GOD LOVE..so you never wear makeup..Dolly brings more people to God then you judging!! God said judge not!!! dont look at others sins but yours!!!

  • I never saw this before. Maybe someone got touched by the Holy Spirit on this one, whatever the gender of the singer. I don't think she could sing it this way without God in her heart.

  • wunderschööön

  • ............Im stunned...........

  • I may not be christian, but it is impossible to deny the power in this song

  • jesus is really alive i know because i believe and he gave the previlege of aperoal revelation to see him. so i can relate with this music because the experience is still fresh in my mind just like yesterday. oh i just love dolly for this relationship nshe shares with jesus.

  • JESUS IS LORD

  • Amazing. This performance brought more to Jesus and the Kingdom than all of the sermons of, Let' s see, Jerry Falwell, Oral Roberts, Robert Tilton, Jimmy Swaggart, Joel Osteen, Benney Hinn, shall I go on or do you get my meaning. Jim Baker was so honored as a man of God. Yea, right. Amen and Amen. Just because they perceive to be holy doesn t make them so. Beleive your own heart, not anothers because they tell you that they are true.

  • shes so pretty and what a voice

  • Don Francisco is still reaping royalties from this performance. We should all be so lucky that the Goddess performs our song.

  • I love you Dolly Parton

  • @MrEntertainer1000 Excuse me but don't love Dolly, love the Lord. Check out Don Francisco, it's better, he wrote it and he doesn't sex himself all up like the Lord hates.

  • @RhonaYoga Dear RhonaYoga, let me rephrase what I meant... I love /take great joy in the fact that Dolly Parton (a secular artist) chose to sing this strongly Christ-oriented song at a very secular singing event. And yes, Don Franciso is definitely led by the Spirit in writing his songs, he's been one of my family's favorite christian singers for a very, very long time :) I hope this clears up any misunderstanding that may have arisen from my previous comment.

  • @RhonaYoga Dolly sings from her heart and giving thanks for God ..WHATS SEX have to do with Dollys singing shes not stripping but she looks beautiful outside and her heart..If your talking about her boobs shes always been big plus a beautiful but Dollys giving Thank you God and your running her down dont the Holy Bible say judge not or you will be judge?..Dolly was saying THANK YOU GOD AND YOUR BLESSINGS and You without sin Rhona ?? you act like it!

  • @BLUEOHIO I'm a sinner like everyone and want to improve. I am learning what the Lord loves and what He hates.

Dolly is a beautiful woman by Hollywood's standards and seductive. Is there a man that could resist her?

People model themselves after famous people. I am trying to find something Godly about Dolly.

    you can google this:

    The Truth Hidden Behind Makeup

If you want to dig deeper you could also google how famous people get famous, They allign with the dark forces. They make a pact.

  • @RhonaYoga Plus you say your best book is ''The Incredible Human Potential'' ..MY best book in the world is the ''''' HOLY BIBLE '''

  • @RhonaYoga : You're crazy.

  • @RhonaYoga Dolly did not sexed her self and what is wrong with one trying to be all they can be even if it means being sexy. You sound like one of the people Christ warned about who can cast the first stone. Think about this am not a practicing Christian but each time I hear Dolly sings this song I feel i have heard a message and ignore the Lord isn't that do what the song and message of it suppose to do? Touch the souls of man.

  • I had forgot how powerful Dolly voice is this is one best songs JESUS LOVES US

  • A song of feelings and emotion/...BUT IT's MY SONG ABOUT MY WALK WITH JESUS.. Love Lillie

  • I love this song. You know what; I hate television. I am not impressed with celebrities and glitz and marketing. Yet rarely, I'll see true talent, and rarely, I am a fan. I always thought Dolly was awesome, for her gospel songs. I respect Dolly , the person, not the celebrity. Thanks for posting this song.

  • I love this.

  • The days when people wrote songs about Jesus and God in their lives ~ along with the music of their fiber and passion ~ be it blues, country and/or rock ~ radio embraced them ~ are they over?

The Christian music industry has SOME talented people - who are genuine in their faith and passion ~ but to throw the name Jesus in a song, make a record and make money is not "moving" anyone closer to God or giving peace and healing ~

    Peace,

    V

  • WOW I remember watching this when she sang it on the show and I still get goose bumps and cry when I watch the video! What an amazing song by the BEST female singer to ever grace this earth!!!!!!

  • First of all, I think Dolly Parton hung the moon! Secondly, when I saw this on the CMA's I was floored! I thought it was the most inspirational close they had EVER done. I got goose bumps, I tear up, it still moves me the same way everytime I hear it! I love you Dolly and I think you never looked prettier, or sang sweeter, I hope I can save it forever and look at it whenever I want! Thank you and God Bless you!

  • She did a fantastic job!! Thank you, Father, for the sacrifice Your daughter is praising You for here and thank you for the promises You've made so that ALL of us will see You come again!! Amen!

  • this is from peter's perspective. Mary comes to tell them His body is gone. Peter is no longer feeling guilt for denying him 3x because Jesus only showed Love.

  • Naw...the fact that she's singing a song from Peter's perspective is irrellevant. Great performance! Great song!

  • I can't find any record that Dolly won an award in 1989?

    What did she win?

  • Dolly gave me chills at the end! :D

  • I love this song and Dolly is doing an excellent job. This is a great vid with the most important message a person can ever hear.

  • Regarding the "controversy" of Dolly vs. Simon Peter and whether or not this is a man's song...I believe Dolly or anyone who sings this song, for that matter, does not sing it to portray Simon Peter, but rather to tell of the belief that Christ does exist. True, it uses the story of Simon Peter, but if you look beyond the actual Biblical story it is based upon, the story is actually the testimony of any born again Christian who has discovered Christ's love. Go Dolly for being a witness!

  • @fltwoodmacrox81 "soliders at the door... to drag us all away..." makes me think of Christians hiding in China or Arabia

    .

  • @fltwoodmacrox81 The other possibility is that this is Mary of Magadalene sharing her Female viewpoint

    .

  • @1967December1967 Right on! :)

  • Love Ms. Dolly! :)

  • wow

  • I didn't dislike it, but I don't particularly like it either. I love the song. Even after 30-plus years, it remains my all-time favorite Christian song. Even so, the words are from Simon Peter, and Dolly--as good as she might be--just can't pull off a convincing Simon Peter. This is a man's song, and lest you think I'm sexist, I wouldn't expect a man to sing "Mary's Song" either. Thankfully, most songs are gender-neutral, but this one isn't. The writer's version is WAY more convincing!

  • @MrSecureT True, but Dolly brought this song to a lot of people that would have never heard it otherwise. :)

  • @MrSecureT Not to be rude or cause trouble, but really? The overall theme of the song is "He's Alive" and this somehow is supposed to take second place because some have a problem with the gender of the person singing it, I mean seriously? Either way, amazing song and performance.

    God Bless You Dolly.

  • @Sessylius The overall theme of the song is Peter's experience on that first Easter Sunday morning. It's about the events of that morning and about Peter's anguish--not just his agony over Christ's death but also over Peter's betrayal of his closest friend and Savior. It's about Peter hitting the depths of sorrow and then rising to the peaks of joy at the realization that Christ has risen from the dead and forgiven him. Yes, "He's Alive," but also "I'm forgiven; Heaven's gates are open wide."

  • @Sessylius In addition to the powerful chorus of the song, there are eight equally important verses. It's a story about Jesus AND Peter. In fact, one could make the case that the song is more about Peter. Certainly Peter is the one telling the story, and he's shouting for joy in the chorus because of the forgiveness he has experienced. That's not to say that Peter is more important than Christ, but Peter is the primary character of the story.

  • @Sessylius It's a story about betrayal and redemption, and the primary character is Peter. He's singing about his own joy, but also about the joy that we all can have. It tells us that no matter what we've done--no matter how horrible it might be--we, too, can experience the joy and "sweet release" of forgiveness. It's a man named Peter telling a story of what happened to him and what we, too, can gain from his experience. I'm sorry, but a woman just can't tell that story convincingly.

  • How did anyone dislike this?!

  • Amen, Dolly, Amen!

  • Oh Dolly. I just luv ya, girlfriend.

  • I saw this on the awards show 22 years ago, and it still gives me chills

  • He is alive is Dolly's most sacred songs of our Lord an Saviors sacrafice for us. Please know you are blessed each time you sing because of your sweet voice & kindness you have shown unto others, Thanks, again for the lovely song.

  • it jus sums up my my emotion the way dolly is singing, full of joy and happiness. moves me 2 tears each time

  • I remember seeing this and had goose bumps for a long time. Dolly at her prettiest and she is still amazing. How many years ?? Certainly one of the most talented singers ever..

  • I was raised on the sound of Dolly's voice, along w/many other Classic County Musicians. I think that this is true art...and Dolly, thank you for using the gift that God gave you!

  • wow

  • I love this song. In fact, it's my all-time favorite Christian song, but Dolly just isn't a convincing Simon Peter. Look for the Don Francisco version. He wrote the song, and no one can sign it as well as he does.

  • There will never be anyone like Dolly. She is truly one of a kind.

  • This song bring hope to my heart the hope that the one I love and lost by death I will see again in haven

  • Im an Athiest and I love this song! For real!!......Dolly rules!!!

  • Wow! I had no idea Don Francisco was so popular, Dolly sang his stuff!

  • HE IS ALIVE!!!!! I'M FORGIVEN!!!! HEAVEN'S GATES ARE OPEN WIDE!!!! ALLELUIA!!!

  • A wonderful Easter song

  • He's Alive 3:42

  • 3:42

  • Such a beautiful woman with a beautiful heart for the Lord. The first time I ever heard her version of He's Alive was during the Heartsong show at Dollywood. Have been hooked ever since.

    He truely is alive!

  • @cowboyfan1113 oh - and seriously - whoever told you an IQ test is an indicator of a person's level of ignorance is a bit of a numpty. I'd welcome you to score higher than me - hey, you may well do!! But that doesn't make you any less ignorant. All it means (literally) is that you score higher on an IQ test than me. But what is the point in proving how intelligent a (rather convoluted) test says you are if you can't actually put that knowledge to any productive use?

  • @cowboyfan1113 lol- why do you keep changing the subject? Why can't you answer a simple question? let me answer yours - Yes I have been to America - in fact I lived there for almost a decade in Poway, CA. Sure - let's do an I.Q test - they are inherently flawed of course so if it helps to rock up with my credentials instead- I have a Masters and 2 post grad law degrees. Now let's see if you are man or woman enough to answer the question you set me. I answered loud and clear - your turn

  • @cowboyfan113 You would say you liked her before 10. I guarantee you haven't seen her in person nor been to as many concerts and trips to Dollywood. Probably don't have 4 kids who follow in your footsteps loving her as much as you do either. I'm not wasting anymore time with, you have ticked off plenty of people on here before me. Wonder why they always jump you???? Oh but I'm sure you're the victim...

  • I wanna hear her sing I'll Fly Away next! Way to go Dolly!

  • @cowboyfan1113 If I misread the comment, I apologize. However I highly doubt you like Dolly more than I do. There aren't too many people who start being a fan at age 10 and continue on with it through their adult lives. I guess it isn't for anyone to say who like her, so many people love and adore her and she is very much deserving. I'm confused at your arguments with others also, you seem to go back and forth and it is hard to tell that you are in fact defending Dolly...

  • @sammijo79 liked dolly before the age of 10, glad u like her too. Show me anything i have said against Dolly, not one comment i made is against dolly, have always admired her and always will.

  • Awesome song and loved the choir backup but still prefer Don Francisco's version as well.

  • Much prefer Don Francisco's ORIGINAL version. Do not care for a female singing a song written from a MAN's point of view.

  • Awesome...thanks for posting this and Happy Easter!!! Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed!

  • I heard this about a decade before this was recorded. Amen!

  • Dolly can really deliver a messge - - one of my all time favorites!! Complete chill bumps at 3:56! HE'S ALIVE!!! Happy Easter all.

  • I love this song, first time I heard it I cried, Amen he is alive :)

  • @cowboyfan1113 really? Are you saying that Dolly is only known for the size of her breasts? She is a superb person inside and out and extremely talented. What an insult to this amazing woman who helps so many people around the world. She is not selfish nor vain and is REAL! You have a serious malfunction!!! Dolly is the best!

  • @sammijo79 Did u read the comment that i responded to....probably not? Someone said that noone even knows who Dolly is and i simply stated that everyone knows Dolly. I like Dolly as much or more than you, she is a wonderful person inside and out. I have a serious malfunction? Thanks...........read the previous comment first.

  • Did u read the previous comment? The one i responded to? Obviously not? Someone said that noone knows who Dolly is? I disagreed.......have never met anyone who did not know who dolly was. You are right that Dolly is a wonderful person inside and out. I like Dolly as much or more than you. Just read the comments before you tell someone they have a serious malfunction.

  • I thought she was Mary Mageline

  • I thought she was Mary Magalene

  • I have Mix Feelings...I love Dolly Singing. she does sound like an angel singing. But i Feel that this is supposedly Peter singing right? Maybe I am being bias. And I am sorry for sound that way if I am . But the ONLY one that should sing this is a Man's Tenor or The Original artist Don Francisco. Like I said. Granted Dolly does have a Lovely Angel voice and Does a BEAUTIFUL job singing it. But I think being that its from a Man's point of view it should be sung by a man. :) God Bless

  • I remember watching this when it aired and being stunned. It was glorious to hear such a talent singing JESUS on TV. Thank you for posting. And PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS SON JESUS!!!

  • @earnestly2 AMEN! I remember watching it as well. I always wished I had VCRed that awards show that year or something. Never thought I would see it again. Then I was so shocked to find it on YOUTUBE. Thanks a lot or posting it.

  • Now THAT'S an Easter song... :)

  • I just posted this video to my Facebook page. I think it says it all about Easter and the Resurrection.

  • @Boots16316 I just posted it too! Happy Easter!

  • always have to play this song on Reaurrection Day

  • Awesome cover of an awesome song! Dolly, I'm sure you made your mamma smile in heaven. Brought tears to my eyes. Praise God, HE'S ALIVE!!!

  • Yep this is awesome

  • 22 people are CRAZYYYY!!! THIS IS awesome!

  • i saw this and my hair stood on end.. for me this is THE EASTER SONG

it still gives me chills ..

  • @FORKUU2 Same here my friend!

  • @FORKUU2 AMEN!!! I love this song!

  • @FORKUU2 I sang this in church after I heard Dolly do it. I messed up when I looked out into the congregation and caught one of the members crying. Everybody stood up at the end anyway. This song still moves me. I love the Don Francisco(the writer) version as well. It gives me chills too.

  • @maggarita2019 Have you heard the version done by David Phelps of the Gaither Vocal Band? It is absoulty breath taking.

  • @FORKUU2 me too

  • what a beautiful song for Easter !!!! God Bless Dolly !!!

  • awesome

  • I cant beleive this is the first time I heard the lovely Ms Dolly sing this. It is so beautiful and so true. I hope you Ms Dolly get a blessing for singing this. Love

  • The CMA's told her she could not sing this on the awards show ~ so she said then I will not be on the show ~ so they allowed her to do it ~ Go Dolly!

    Peace,

    V

  • @MegaVeronicaLodge Dolly did good. This performance is grand.

  • @MegaVeronicaLodge wow I didn't know that! lol Go Dolly!!!

  • All ya'll that are fighting about who's perspective it's from etc are kinda missing the point that it's about love and forgiveness and Jesus fulfilling a promise. It's a beautiful song no matter who we think it's a perspective of let's just rejoice in that and enjoy it together in peace k :-)

  • @KKEnterprises that is certainly one way to look at things...

  • For years, I mistakenly thought this song was written from Peter's perspective. The following link has Don himself saying that it was written from Thomas's perspective:

    youtube dot com slash watch?v=HIndrry40Ks&feature=related

(replace the spelled-out words with their appropriate punctuation marks)

For a song from Peter's perspective, look for "Too Small a Price." When I heard the latter song sung live (by Don), I almost pulled my auditorium seat out of the floor!

  • @snickpickle sorry - but that's not correct. he says he started trying to write it from Thomas's perspective and it didn't work - so he used Peter's perspective instead. You weren't mistaken all those years...

  • @mlusby Hmmm... maybe I'll have to listen to Don's interview again! I admit that I was somewhat distracted when I initially listened to it. Peter's perspective certainly makes more sense in the context of the lyrics...

  • @snickpickle It worth the listen - it's an interesting backdrop for the song! The good news is - you were right all these years. :)

  • @snickpickle Peter denied Christ. So, recheck the lyrics and don't let others interpret it for you. If it said I denied him...check the Gospel and see if that was Peter or Thomas. Gospel of Matthew, btw. You see a lot of people allow others to tell them instead of "knowing" the truth for themselves. Have a wonderful day. :)

  • Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

  • @cowboyfan1113 oh - and just becasue I know the kind of person you are - and that you will be utterly unable to do anything other than try to respond telling us all how right you are and hjow wrong I must be - here is the reason behind the song from the mouth of the man who actually WROTE it... youtube. com/watch ?v= HIndrry40Ks. Can't post the actual link - but that'll take you to Don talking about why he wrote the song.

  • @mlusby Some people just dont get it....that link does not mean the song is about Peter. I guess you could say it's about Peter's version of the resurrection of Christ. The fact is it's called "he's alive", he is jesus. The song is about jesus being alive....yes u r correct it is peters version of events. You are funny..."utterly unable"?!! that was good. Thanks for giving me my laugh for the day.

  • @cowboyfan1113 Wait, hold on just a minute. Don Francisco - the guy who wrote the song! tells you HIMSELF what it is about and you are STILL arguing your point? That, my friend - has truly made me laugh. But let's use your "He's" means it's about Jesus argument - "I spent", "I went", "John stood there beside ME", "Jesus stood before ME" etc... now please - we've all had a good chuckle - but you really need to just shut up and sit there quietly for a while. OK? thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @cowboyfan1113 you are a fantastic representation of everything that is wrong with Christianity...judgmental without reason, argumentative without cause, assertive when you are incorrect and opinionated when you really ought to shut up. The song is about Peter - the subject of Peter's story is about Jesus. You assume it's a Jesus song because for some strange reason - you actually believe that strongly in someone else's interpretation of a fairy tale that it can't be anyone else but Jesus. wd!

  • @mlusby you stepped into a comment that i said to tell me i was wrong and you have repeatedly told me to shut up but yet you say i am whats wrong with christianity? Listen i do not claim to be a "good" christian........i believe in jesus but yet i am far from perfect, thank God that "he is alive" because i have no chance without him. I actually do not claim to be a christian just someone who needs help from Jesus....obviously u do claim to be a christian but u tell me to "shut up". WWJD?

  • @cowboyfan1113 I stepped into a comment because you were and are wrong - you don't know what you are talking about so why would you willingly misinform someone and spread your ignorance? But anyway, you're changing the subject. Can you say "I am sorry I was mistaken"? That was a challenge you gave to me - but now that I've shown you that you are in fact the one who is incorrect - can you freely admit it? You have other arguments going on here - so you can carry on with those if its important.

  • @cowboyfan1113 oh - and again, for teh record, absolutely not a Christian - nor do I believe in jesus or indeed god. how on earth you got that from my posts is absolutely beyond me. I think I actually tacitly referred to the whole religious thing as someone else's interpretation of a fairy tale - so honestly - not trying to defend Christianity at all here - all I said was "technically - it's about Peter" to correct your inaccurate (but very confident!) statement that it was about jesus.

  • Happy Easter! He is risen!

  • Loved this performance of this song. WONDERFUL!

  • Dang, Dolly nailed it on this version! Nobody can hold a candle to her on this song!

  • @aarons1584 I truly prefer the original...but this is nice

  • I will never forget the day after this performance in Nashville. EVERYONE was talking about it. So Awesome!

  • I MAY NOT BE PERFECT BUT THIS SONG STILL REMINDS ME THAT THERE IS A GOD AND THAT HIS ONLY SON, JESUS, DIED FOR US AND OUR SINS..... AMEN TO U MISS DOLLY LOVE UR BIGGEST FAN, GABE FROM CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS

  • Not a bad version, but it's hard to beat the original Don Francisco version.

  • @goaliebrent well, it would all depend on whether or not you are a country person or a big city person? rich, upper class big city than u would say Don Francisco..........I say noone beats Dolly. You should hide ur head in shame for even suggesting something like this.

  • is this song about jesus???

  • @MegaChloeh I believe that u r joking but I will answer ur question anyways........it most certainly is about Jesus.

  • @cowboyfan1113 technically - it's about Peter...

  • Yes it is from Peter's view .... but still it is a powerful song!

  • I love this song. It makes me cry every time I hear it. Knowing what Jesus did for me, and to know that He forgives, and He is ALIVE!

  • glad I found this song....love it...remember her doing it on the awards show and got so blessed

  • I'm guessing we won't be hearing this song at the BET/MTV video awards.

  • "CHILLS"! This is the best version of this song that I've found. Thank God for Dolly!! Nuf said! :)

  • Amen praise GOD! He IS alive!!!!!

  • THIS SONG MAKES YOU THINK OF YOUR FUTURE AND YOUR PAST

  • Spectacular.

  • I have seen this video about 100 times and everytime I see it, it brings chills to my arms and chest when the choir chimes in. Awesome Song Ms. Dolly! No one can deliver it like you do !!
