I argue that the spectrum of genre between Boxcar Racer, AVA and blink-182 isn't significantly different enough to have 3 separate bands. If he was wanting to do some shredding and arpeggios, that would be a different story. I say, if you're going to have a side project, it should be like an alter ego that you never would have pictured yourself being. I grew up playing blink-182, and now I listen to All Shall Perish. Even in between like Incubus or 311. True artists have nothing to prove.

Tom making Angels and Airwaves along with Mark and Travis making +44 was the worst thing to happen to punk probably in it's existence. I'm just happy that they realized how important blink-182 is to the music scene, that blink-182 stands for more than petty arguments and fights. I believe the fight between Mark and Tom started when Tom did his side project Boxcar Racer, didn't invite Mark on bass, and told Travis he saved $ by using him instead of a session drummer. Everything happens 4 a reason

The fighting started during the tour following their Self Entitled release. Tom stopped talking to Mark and Travis and it even reached a point to where he changed his number so they couldn't call him. BTW, Mark does sing in one of Box Car Racer's songs "Elevator"

I think that he wanted Blink to stay with its punk roots. Boxcar Racer should be seen more as his own personal solo career rather than a band. His ideas that didn't fit with the image of Blink were thrown into this new band. I think the point of BCR was to have people take him more seriously as an artist rather than a immature punk guitarist/singer. He chose Travis to be the session drummer because he was already good friend with Travis and Travis kicks ass.
