@PeppiBle sebastian vettel used to ride GO kart until he was like 16, go karts are not as dangerous as bikes, and dont exceed 100 mph... his parents are stupid
shit happens everyday to people young and old only difference is would you prefer to go doing something you love??i would.rip little man keep her lit in the big track in the sky...
Then you'll be one of few brave dads. Not many can accept the risk their child might die so young because of something they let them do. It can be a wonderful reward for both dad and son, but it can also be a tragedy, like in case of Peter Lenz. It all comes down to many factors like skill, experience, maturity but ultimately, chance. You may control where you'll be with your bike, but you can't control other bikes that may come up behind you, and this is why GP riders die.
@mickeypopa thnx, its not bravery. Broken bones are common in motor racing, but its also with soccer or hockey! Tragedies like Peter Lenz and Marco Simoncelli are so rare that its almost irrelevant! Dont get me wrong, sure i'd be worried, alot infact! Its just, we people tend to blow up these uncommon incidents. R.i.p Peter Lenz, strenght to his family, but it wont stop me one bit for my son to race bikes if he chooses to!
I understand. I just have to disagree that these accidents are that rare...just a year ago Tomizawa died and now Simoncelli the same way. Not to mention Lenz a week before Tomizawa!
In my book, 3 deaths in a period of one year are not rare. As time goes on, new riders are being pushed ever further to be faster and faster, and I believe that is why this is happening. They need to stop and think how fast is fast enough. That's all.
Your right people. Lets just shelter our children from ANYTHING that could hurt them. Its what the kid loved. When you hear him talk about it he loves it. Its a tragic loss for the family and motorcycle community.
I hate reactions like this, Peter would wipe the floor with every single person asking the question "how young is too young?" Age does not come into it whatsoever, from the riders perspective accidents are equally traumatic whether you're 5 - 80+ years old.
Speaking from experience, when a young kid is forced to ride, or feels obliged to ride because of the parents generally he/she does not perform very well.
Im 16, and I race touring cars.. and my parents FULLY back me. They are not stupid or idiots, they want me to do what I love... and that is driving a car at over 150mph. And its safer then your average football game.
I'm 13 just like Peter was and I race bikes too... we know the risks, we accept them and we race. Some of the kids that race are so mature you wouldn't believe they were only 12 or 13. If we were scared of dying whilst racing, we wouldn't do it. We do it for the love of the sport. He died doing what he loved and what every single girl or out there racing loves doing!
R.I.P. Kidda, I miss you and love you. My favourite racer. Always have been. Always will be. R.I.P. #45
While I totally agree that accidents happen and always will, I still can't see how they allow 12 year olds to race motorcycles, and I know it makes me sound like an overprotective mother or something, but I LOVE motorcycles. I just can't see the logic in it, its perfectly fine to race bikes over 100mph on a track, yet you have to be 16 to ride a 50CC moped?! or 18 to buy a beer? and a grown man of 35 can't smoke a joint in his living room? The laws are ever proving to be fucked up!Either way RIP

ISN`T HIS PARENTS FAULTS. ITS AN ACCIDENT, ITS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME N WE NEVER KNOW WHEN THE ACCIDENT COMING.
ISN`T BECAUSE HES TO YOUNG EITHER, WELL HOW OLD HE NEED TO BE A RACER? ITS ABOUT HIS FUTURE, HES GONNA BE GOOD RIDER WHEN HE`S GROW UP, BUT EVERYTHING`S CHANCE BECAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
The facts are that Peter, as well as the other riders, are very well trained, and are very safety oriented. I have heard Child Development Specialist keep saying that, "Normal kids at this age aren’t fully developed and they don't have the maturity level to make sound decisions." But these talented young men and women are extremely mature for their age and they are fully aware of what is going on and the potential dangers that are associated with this wonderful sport.
@padrak18 Wow. That has absolutely nothing to do with this topic or my post. After viewing your profile, it looks as if you are about 14 or 15 yourself. How do you spend your time? Play Xbox? Trolling other pages? At least these kids have a dream and are doing what THEY love. That's right; THE KIDS are following their dreams. The parents are there supporting them, not forcing them. At least there are some parents in this world that recognizes their children’s talents and supports their dreams.
@MultiWes89 Excuse me but I wasn't cutting any one down for racing bikes. I think it's cool myself. I was simply saying tha if a 13 year old is allowed to make a decision to do things that could kill him then the argument goes that at 13 kids should have the right to consent to having sex. Where do you draw the line ? Hmmm?
@MultiWes89 Of course that would mean with other guys as well. Even older guys as 13 is old enough to make decisions right ???? Or are you now going to make something up to suit your personal believes? Interesting question isn't it ?
@padrak18 And I just finished a report for a class that I am taking, and I did the report on Youth Motorsports compared to "Traditional" Sports. You would be surprised at the numbers that come up on severely or fatality injured kids in normal sports (30,000 +). And compared to motorsports, those numbers are out of this world. Youth motorsports as a whole has extremely low severely injured to fatality injured numbers. Even everyday activities for kids showed a huge injury and death rate.
@MultiWes89 Once again dumb ass, read the whole post. I never said he didn't have the right to make a judgement on bike racing. I agree that he should be able to as well.
@padrak18 I'm just saying, what line are you talking about drawing? Drawing the line at racing? Drawing it at sports all together? Or drawing it at eating (since we can choke), riding/driving a car (since we can get into a wreck), or what? I'm not meaning to jump on anyone. I'm simply stating that people need to see both sides of the fence. The kids who race are not the normal 13, 14 year old that gets off of the school bus. They possess the rational thought and the skills required to do this.
@MultiWes89 You know it breaks my heart to see that this kid died and I am not blameing his parents either. You are trying to answer my question with a question.
You said "He posessed the rational thought and skills required to do this." Obviously not enough for him. He's gone. I will ask again, if a 13 year old can concent to racing then do you feel they can consent to sex even with someone older than them ? I mean "They certainally posess rational, right ? No I am not a molester either.
@padrak18 I refuse to answer your question on here. I don't know if this is a personal issue of yours or what, but this is not the time or place to ask that.
As for your comment about him not having rational thought or skills. I guess him not having such is what made him a nine time national champion, nine time regional champion, and the points leader at the time of his death. I guess 19 year old Shoya Tomizawa didn't possess rational thought and skills either.
@padrak18 Oh no, you're not going to pull that reverse psychology on me. I have my opinion on that subject, but as I said, this is not the time or the place to talk about that. Go create a blog or something about it, and see what is said about it. Until then, keep it zipped (figuratively speaking).
@padrak18 Reverse psychology is when you do something and hope to get the opposite reaction. So when you said, "That's what I thought your reply would be. Thus following the same response as anyone that simply can't answer. Oh well." That is you actually saying, "If I say that he doesn't have an answer, then he will answer my question."
And since reverse psychology is a persuasion technique, then yes, I am using reverse psychology on people trying to get them to understand this sport.
@ ALL OF THE NAY-SAYERS OUT THERE IN WEB LAND....You need to get your facts straight before you start criticizing others. Read the article that I wrote about Peter at flannelw.blogspot.com for my view on this topic (Since I can't post it all here). Please try to see this topic from both sides of the fence.
@maniac111111111 fair play m8...your a fucking disgrace and hope you never have kids of your own...you obviously understand absolutly nothing about motorcycle racing.
you think the boy was forced by his parents to race?
watch some videos of pete lenz away racing with his family....youll see everything was done on pete's terms.
your an absolute fucking idiot that has no compassion at all. i feel very sorry for you.
@lmlmlml I hope YOU never have any kids too. It's the parent's responsibility to care for his child until he's old enough, because children aren't fully developed physically and mentally, so they might make wrong decisions. In this case it's pretty obvious that it was bad parenting of the child, if the kid got killed and the parents allowed him to race.
@maniac111111111 I happen to have watched him and his dad at the track several times. To say it is bad parenting is just stupid. He had great parents that took time to teach him the right way with the best safety gear and training available. I also started riding when I was 5 years old, but did not have the safety training Peter did, does that make my parents bad. His parents spent more time with him than most ever do or would. This is just a very unfortunate accident. They happen.
@maniac111111111 seriously you are a fucking absolute retard....i used to work for jonhsey quad racing in the uk....our youngest rider was 6 and had nothing but love and support from his parents. You really have no idea at all about racing or the family backing that comes with it. the children in the sport are never pushed to do things..they do what they want. if they dont wanna race they dont race!!
i suppose your gunna say now that lewis hamilton should never of raced karts.
@lmlmlml Wait a sec, in the comment which you first replied to, I just meant that the parents shouldn't be pitied for their son's death because they allowed him to go race, ie they accepted the responsibilities.
he was better than most pro adult racers, it could of happened to anyone it could of happened to a 80 year old and you all would of still been like ahh he was way too old to race bikes, people who say things like this blatantly quite obviously dont have anything there passionate about. leave the kid to RIP he and his career which he LIVED FOR will always be remembered as a one off amazing pleasure of mine to see. people bringing up his age should chill the fuck out and get laid or something lol
@danielcrawford1991 Not to mention he was hit by another person. It also doesnt make sense that they makea fuss about the 13 year old who died when an even younger kid hit him. wtf?
How can they even begin to enter this subject without all the facts, if they were to view archive footage of lenz, they would see why he is in racing, he had so much talent and experience. if we look back to just a couple of years to Craig Jones' fatal crash at brands hatch, he died in the same way, from being struck by another bike, both riders had years of xperience, at the speeds the bikes travel, it is hard to avoid such incidents. R.I.P Peter
Why is it that when a kid gets hurt or killed people always question or blame the sport they were doing? Every professional athlet starts when they're a child, that's how they perfect there skills to make it professional. Kids die in car crashes every day, does this mean they shouldn't ride in cars anymore? Or ride bikes? Or even cross a street? Accidents happen and always will.
i agree completely, it is a racing incident, it isnt the first and will not be the last unfortunately, if the kids werent talented enough the class wouldnt exist and youd have a bunch of wobblers on track, these kids are the future of racing, so yes they should be on these bikes. R.I.P Peter
@evilevo15 This is a very good point. Kids seem to matter so much more to the world than adults. Even at prize givings, any organisation that supports children always gets more votes of confidence than those working with juveniles, or young adults.
But I agree, of course it's tragic that Lenz died but then isn't every motor sport death tragic? But then Peter Lenz will be remembered by a lot of people. Who remembers Roland Ratzenberger? Greg Moore? Gonzalo Rodriguez? How fair is that?
@jakesanson Without exception, every sport death is tragic (I wouldn't even limit it to motorsport - all sports carry risk of injury and a huge number, a risk of death).
When it's a minor, though, there's a chance to sell newspapers and increase ratings for sensationalist programs on commercial news stations.
Feeding into and from that is an army of bloggers, vloggers and commenters who call for big government to put a stop to it and for someone to "please, think of the children."
@evilevo15 We should lock everyone below 18 in a sterile, padded chamber with failsafe (sterile) air supplies and feed them sterile food through a peg (no risk of choking if it goes directly to the stomach) and pipe sterile television in for entertainment.
When *everyone* dies young from obesity and related illnesses there won't be anything tragic about it.
Or perhaps - just maybe - we should let people live the way they choose and face the consequences when they arise.
I'm not sure what to think. Giving a 13 year old an experts license ? He had serious injuries last year requiring several surgeries. I know my Wife wouldn't let our 13 year old race under those conditions. Keeping them in Karts until age 16 is probably best.
@KevinFL The track is actually safer than your drive to the grocery store. I had the pleasure of watching Peter and his dad in the pits several times, and he had a talent. He was a blessed athlete. Kids die on bike rides around the block all the time, but don't receive the press that this did. Does your wife let them ride a bike, or walk to school, or anything else? He had an experts licence because he earned it. I know what it takes to get one. It took me several years to earn mine.
@KevinFL BTW, check the safety of Karts. They are far more dangerous. I guess my whole point is that they didn't just give him an experts licence. Peter was on the way to being a World Champion. RIP Peter.
@kenbouy No!! I love soccer as well, Im just saying that every sport is dangerous, and every time your child plays a sport, their is risk involved, so motorsports should not be treated differently then your average ball sport

Wild idea eh? ;o)

I agree completely. His life was tragically cut short, but at least he was living life to it's fullest.
No one should be blaming the parents in this case, I think it's great that they allowed him to pursue a hobby like this.

RIP Peter.

@kenbouy I raced karts, Ive flipped, been thrown out of it, and run over... and my biggest injury EVER was playing a soccer game at lunch in school
vivaSchumi7 1 year ago
@vivaSchumi7 In your one case. So, are you are saying is that kids should not be allowed to play soccer?
kenbouy 1 year ago
@kenbouy No!! I love soccer as well, Im just saying that every sport is dangerous, and every time your child plays a sport, their is risk involved, so motorsports should not be treated differently then your average ball sport

@vivaSchumi7 I agree.
