Played with such a freedom and what an awesome control. I have been a conductor of an orchestra and appreciate the perfection of control over the band.
It's called a penny whistle, cause in the old days it cost a penny to buy... It was an affordable instrument in townships in the 50s and 60s in SA. SA Township jazz often includes the penny whistle.
Hi. The guy playing the whistle is (Warrant Officer) Willie van Zyl, a totally awesome world class sax player. The conductor is Commander Mike Oldham. I used to be in this band - the Senior Staff band of the South African Navy when I worked in South Africa (Leading Seaman Simon Harpham) - trombone). They are based at Naval Base Simon's Town near Cape Town.
i could listen to this all day and never get tired of it one bit. i love the recorder in it. if im not mistaken thats a sopranino recorder. very beautiful. BRAVO!!!
Excellent music . Missing my own band days. North West Command Army Band Potchestroom 83 -84. Smallest band but one of the best.
