  • (cont'd 4) for crying out loud folks, if you are going to protest, or make a statement, PLEASE do so in such a way as to allow the naysayers NO ROOM for making any point that you dont even know what you are trying to say, or that it is just an excuse for a 'hippie party'. in the end you do the movement much more damage than any 'riot squad'. live what you say. walk your talk. make them take notice that they are dealing with well educated/serious people who know what they are protesting for.

  • (cont'd 3) irresponsibility and recklessness is NOT going to make anyone take you seriously. it saddens me that if there IS a real cause for a statement, or a protest, that so many will go about it in such a way that they just give the detractors ammunition against themselves by having so many problems such as assault/drug use and OD/ not really knowing the law well enough to know that if you are on private property you CAN legally be told to leave. (cont'd)

  • (cont'd 2) it just makes those who made these 'hippies' so to speak seem right about them. how *can* he be so cruel to his wife and child when he is running around singing about peace and love? it reminds me of the reports of sexual assaults, rampant drug use, and even the woman who died of an OD in recent "occupy" movements. those behaviors allow detractors to make it seem that they are correct in the stereotype of those protesting. (cont'd)

  • this is the problem i have with any *movement*. absolutely they had something to say and something valid. but they ruin if for themselves by being irresponsible and thus proving to the stereotyping naysayers that they are right about them. this scene is heartbreaking. Lafayette is portrayed as one of the ones who is "right on". if he really understood "cosmic consciousness" he could never ever be so cruel to someone who loves him and has his child. (cont'd)

  • x generation doesn't have the freedom to speak out like they did in the 60 's and 70's .

  • What a magnificent voice LaFayette's wife/girlfriend had! Wow!

  • little boys thoughts: why the fuck you singing momma?!?!

  • this is soooo sad.. :(

  • @Prismwriter- we get it!!! Once is enuff

  • how can someone with that voice not be still singing today,, omg put's all them slags today to shame. the only singer today that can compare I think as funny as it sounds is Christina Aquilara, she has that deep soul tone to her voice, and as we say in the theatre she can BELT a Song

  • yeah, im crazy, were all crazy. lets shake on it

  • It wasn't just the age of hippies. It was the age of revolutionary change, war, the draft, spiritual turmoil in every single social sphere. The hippies, the panthers, SDS, The Cops, The Military, The Industrial Workers, The Common Students, parents. It wasn't easy for any of us. And the thing turned on a dime, when Kent State dawned our consciences. No telling what would happen if folks went that radical these days. But that's what change is all about. Dig it. Not just the promise of hope.

  • Sad/////////////////////

  • Jeannie is so adorable!!

  • @scopietta Oh gd.

  • Was that Nicholas Ray as the General in 7:41?

  • @19GirlBad Yes.

  • I love how they just randomly jack his car

  • haha if berger tried to take my keys, i'd knock his teeth out. even tho i do think he's a swell guy

  • oh my god jeanie is adorable. "yea I'm crazy let's shake on it."

  • I find it kinda funny that all these hippies from the 60's and 70's are the same ones that are infatuated with winnebagos and their retirements. I guess we all have to grow up and join the machine.

  • Such a beautiful, heartfelt song. I love the power and conviction in her voice.

  • who sings the song at 9:00? I love it...Please let me know.

  • Vou falar a verdade. Hoje doeu.. Mas quem sabe finalmente eu esteja aprendendo?

  • Our tears remain; those few who came to know the meaning of our purpose

  • Dude. This movie would have been 48 x better if they had stayed more true to the original script. I was in the musical, and it's just so much better.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying this movie lacks credibility. I think ppl in it did well. They're sooo talented.

I'm just saying I would have loved to see that talent applied to the original script, or a screenplay that stayed more true to the play and original story.

  • POOR little boy... but, if my mom was belting like THAT in the middle of NY, I'd cry to...

  • She has a lovely voice the one at the beginning!

  • dit MOET je raken

  • Sowieso^^

  • This totally floors me every time I hear it/see it . I wish more music was used as powerfully as this ..More people would listen...and maybe one day..we could all be better people...

  • Best comment Ive ever read on here!

  • @MsLouis3 You got that right!

  • @pinkydogbear...thanks for keeping it real friend..peace to you

  • This scene and song lyrics are perfect...there were so many people back then who fought for love and peace, that was all they did, they tried so hard to clean up all of the negativity in the world. But they could not have family peace. A very unfortunate situation, but we are always torn between the very close ones or the rest of the universe. Oh gosh, this movie makes me cry so hard, the whole movement, all the love and love and love breaks me up into a thousand pieces. What happened to us?

  • Our liberty was eradicated and we succumbed to pressure, only to watch the world evolve into cruel and heartless place where greed is king.

Gone, is our ability of expression. It has been replaced by an enormous rule book to keep us under control. It has many guises. Anti-Terrorism, Heath and Safety and Human Rights are just three.

"Let The Sunshine In". Those glorious days have to return. Don't give in.

  • This song is song of power as one listens to the lyrics.

  • i think that lafyette is in a hard situation. u can't abandon your baby but you also can't abandon a woman who is pregnant with your baby

  • well yea but he ran out on his baby when he didn't even know jeannie he shouldn't have done that in the first place

  • yeah but he did sleep with jeannie and she got pregnant and there's nothing he could do about it after it happened, so i think it's a hard situation

  • poor child :'(

  • lucky child;) its a good movie with awesome actors

  • that gets me all the time. seeing that baby not understanding and probably just wanting his daddy. (surprised they didn't show that...most kids would just run to their daddy) when i see his tear in his eye it just grabs me. they all come together at the end though. (i think)

  • She is so damn right!

  • 0:11...Lafayette cant be runnin out on kid at home! i mean runnin from a chick is normal self freedom preservation!, but when ya gotta kid there aint no more runnin!

  • this is the greatest tune from the great musical "Hair." it dares to challenge any liberal philosophy that ignores: "charity begins at home." We should listen to the lyrics, and learn.

  • Amazing voice

  • aah that child sooo sweet

  • I love this song...its very bittersweet..

By the way, who is the artist? I don't know her name.

  • My personal favoraite from Hair. I haven't seen it for 10 years I think,

Thank you so much for uploading!

  • thanks to SugarPlumJade :-*

  • i wish the age of hippies would return :(

  • we can bring it back ^^

  • :)

ok. id love to try haha

  • @kanumbra It hasn't left - just gone underground. The hippies have been proven right, they were prophetic. Look at the mess we're in now.

  • T@kanumbra That would be niCE!

  • it will =)

  • @kanumbra... It wasn't just the age of hippies. It was the age of revolutionary change, war, the draft, spiritual turmoil in every single social sphere. • I LOVE THIS SONG!! Didn't know this was from Hair!

  • It's the cold hard truth..

  • I always want to cry when they show the baby crying.=(

  • I've had this song ("Easy To Be Hard") stuck in my head all day, but I couldn't figure out where it was from. It was bugging me so much! But now I figured it out. Ah, I love Hair...

  • Wow. She didn't even break a sweat!

  • I actually cried during this song.

    So emotional.

  • The song is very touchable and deep. And she sings it with so much feelings like she carry`s the sorrow of the world on her shoulders. And the movie is the one I could watch over and over 100 times.

  • Awesome, awesome song!Great voice! Great movie!

That little boys is soo cute

  • this song is tearing me apart....

  • haha, got to love 2:54 - she stops to take a breath but the continue singing...

  • Beautiful song, one of my favourite parts of the movie. The singer is phenomenal- very moving.

  • everyone must give something up for the change in society and thought.Claude became a draftee, Hud became a partisan for peace and love, with the rest of the platoon, berger, the platoon leader changed more than he wished, into a dead soldier. It happens. A strong leader for peace gets swept away in current events and becomes a symbol of whats most violent and disturbing,What is more violent than a body bag? More disturbing than a grave for the young?Lately seems, what doesnt happen there, happens!

  • Hud is the coolest

  • Woof has such a funky coat!

  • It looks a lot like mine...

  • thanx for posting this...the song burns bright for anyone who has ever had to leave the loved behind, and the whole film has much to say about war/ peace/ and the reality that prevents peace in favor of war. this movie would be shown in every HIGH SCHOOL in america, if that were my power.

  • Nah, the musical did a much better job of it. So, maybe it could be performed in every high school? AND the movie, too.

  • WOW! I remember crying when I first saw this.

  • Brilliant song...so beautifully sung...thanks so much for uploading this film.

  • Magnifique passage plein de mélancolie et de retenue...une voix en or...

  • Omg i love when the little boy looks at his mom like...

    "wtf are you singing for?"

    GOD I LOVE THIS MOVIE!<3333

  • aww, when i see that little boy's face, it melts my heart

  • When I first say this film I thought, no this girl is NOT crazy, she's stupid. And to think that she will be having and raising a child. I thought this when I was 13. I am 21 now, and still think the same thing.

  • Oh my favorite song from the film<3

  • the little kid is her?whats name the amazing girl..that sing this gr8 song?it is her kid?

  • This is haunting and amaZing. I loved the Three Dog Night version of this song. But this scene and version puts poignant meaning and soul to the song. Aquarius and Hair had been hits in 1969, but this came later.

  • One of my favorite movies. Thanks for putting it up

  • Makes me wonder why we never heard a lot more from that absolutely beautiful voice over the years. 0:-)

  • to me.. its the best song of the movie

  • George and his hippie freinds carjacked the

Lincoln from Steve and Sheela was in on it.

I ll bet when Sheela got back home she'd

    be grounded for a year.

  • I love how she sang this song (Easy To Be Hard} with such heart. Made me tear up too! What a wonderful voice! Thanks for sharing this video.

  • to me.. its the best song of the movie

  • Cheryl Barnes Trivia...Unlike many members of the cast, she was not a professional singer before she took her turn in Hair(1979).In fact, she was a maid at a hotel in New England when she was encouraged to audition by her friends.

  • that little boy is sooo cute!

  • I dont understaind this scene... Lafayette and the girl... where they in love?

    is she his girlfriend?

    why is she so jalouse?

there were more men over there..

  • ok , yes , they are in love and , yes she ís her girlfriend and the mother of his son .

Why She is jalouse ? hmm . You dont know much bout Love , I guess .

Youre sure young , so you dont know that much right now .

There is at the moment no other man in her eyes , than Lafayette ( and in her Heart ).
