  • I love how sometimes when he's speaking, he's standing in first position(:

  • the part that made me cry in the movie was when he saw his parents after so many years and you could see the guilt in his eyes, then his parents were crying.

  • I can hear his Texas accent through his broken English. How awesome!

  • @itsaboutamy His English isn't broken at all! He speaks better than many but his accent is half Chinese, half Australian. Not Texan. Very awesome :)

  • @swingdancin Hm. I guess you're right, either way, he's amazing.

  • @itsaboutamy How is that English broken? And where is there any kind of texas accent?

  • He is a great man. A great example.

  • Awesome, Bravo!

  • Hats off to you ;)

  • 'Dung' Xiaoping mispronounciation

  • This is a fantastic record that Mr Li Cunxin had the courage to tell us. All my heart goes to him and hope that he will be even more successful !

  • I just finished reading his book, it was such an amazing and emotional life story! It was so good I only took two days to read it!

  • Out of the 1 billion people of various ethnic Chinese descent, I am glad to be one of the mere 6.5 million Ethnic Canton Man, born in Hong Kong under a democratic british colonial rule and eventually, just like Lee, I move from California and finally into New South Wales.

  • @MingTheMerciful I was born in Hong Kong too in the late 80s, I have moved around the world with my parents since literally since born, I lived in Hawaii, mainland China, Canada. Trust me when I say that I appreciate western style of living, but I'm still a Chinese and will always be one, I can't imagine spending the rest of my life anywhere else besides China, because it is my nation, Chinese culture is my culture, the Chinese are my people and it's my birthplace.

  • @devilhunterred well put mate! being a chinese man, i am so proud of it and i tell people wherever i am that i am chinese. i feel much more comfortable when i said this to others. i have enjoyed learning and studying the western cultures but at the same time, i feel this process of learning brought out the good in me as a chinese. i grew then more and more proud as a chinese native. thanks to the very little knowledge i've learned about the west, i see more and more beauty of my own culture.

  • james as a victim of a fascistic regime i deny all what you say, it shows me whow ignorant you are and try to defend such inhuman regimes, you should dont talk about thinngs you necer suffered, i could not see my family for mayn years because of fascist policy, so please shut up

  • 1 Li’s family did not pay the costs for him to become a ballet dancer, but the government did. The government also paid full costs for him to get further training in Houston.

2 Li has not paid back anything for the investment, but keeps on complaining about the past, and uses it to make money from people who do not know the true background of the culture.

3 Li would have been a professor in Beijing to teach more students to become world class dancer and more successful in his ballet career.

  • Jamesl2262 fwee times! How u doo dat?!

  • @ThePoopoo098

A novel is a novel. The reality is the reality. You should visit China and talk to the people before you make any judgment.

  • I lived in China the same time as Li, and left there 25 years ago.

    1. The things happened in China at that time were similar to those happened in World War II in the West. China is completely different now.

    2. The Chinese government contributed most to Mr. Li's success in his life. We need to see the full picture.

    3. If you have been to both India and China, you will understand why.

    4. His book did not sell well in China. The Chinese people lost interests on this top. Mr Li should move on

  • im currently reading his book and im loving every part of it ! his writting style is so attractive!! cant wait to c the movie:)

  • To think that the government can send someone to walk into the classroom where your child is and just take him away without your authority is an atrocity. Under Communism, nothing belongs to you, not your body, not your children. It is the harsh reality of total state control. Think of those in this country who promote control from the state versus those that promote individual freedom, free markets and choice. Which is it that has made us the beacon of light for the world?

  • such inspiration from a very wise man. i can't wait to see the movie.

  • The guy who played him in the movie is hotter.

  • I loved his book. he is TRULY an inspiration.

  • The people announcing him didn't pronounce his name right.. the Cun should sound like Chuen...

  • @Elryaen Um. He's pronouncing it perfectly fine for a non-Chinese speaker. The consonant of Cun is supposed to be pronounced like a "ts", and together "ts-wen".

  • GREAT MOVIE, GOOD acting, Perfect plot.. overall 8/9

  • That movie was goooood. I like that movie.

  • I read this book a longtime ago...... its really good if you are familiar with dance

  • I was crying as watching the whole movie. How scary the people were in living under that stupid policy. Some part of movie is exactly as same as what my mom told me. I am touched by this wonderful movie.

  • gooo watch the movie; i am still in high school and the movie changed my life. i am not kidding. seriously; rent it buy it. really inspiring

  • His book is a must read such a heart felt story so beautifully told. i would love to give his mum a hug ;-)

  • Li is a good story teller, I was deeply touched and entertained by his way of portraying.

  • the sad thing about his story is that its the 21st century and yet billions of people around the world still live in destitute conditions and are starving...

  • @bwoodsfinest

  • @Jamesl2262

My statement was not only about China which is why is said 'around the world'. What I said is a fact.I'm not passing judgment on China nor do I need to visit there to verify what I've said. Even in progressive nations like the US people live in squalor. The conditions of which he spoke of extend far beyond China's borders. The point that I made which clearly went over your head is with the knowledge and resources we have today, no one should live in these conditions.

  • @bwoodsfinest

I have recently visited Qingdao where Li used to live nearby. The people there appeared very rich and happy. The city Qingdao was the host city for the sailing competition of Beijing Olympic Games (please see the website). The government has done pretty good job for the people.

  • @Jamesl2262

I'm going to say it in the dumbest way possible.Maybe then you'll understand. The point i was making is that with all of the technology and resources that we have today, no one in the WORLD, china is not the only country in the world just in case you didn't know) should live in the conditions of which he spoke of(people in every country in the world still live in similar conditions). Do you get it now or should i dumb it down some more???

  • the part of the movie that made me want to cry was the scene where the Li family sat down at dinner to eat sweet potatoes. Peasants in China between the 50s to the early 70s could only afford to eat sweet potatoes and little else. That was a true reflection of what went on in those days. I know because that is exactly what my mother went through. Seeing that made me so emotional and grateful for what I have today.

  • @Eyecandy4u I'm pretty sure they ate yams... that's what the book said...

  • @Eyecandy4u It was a terrible times during the Great Famine in China.

  • @Eyecandy4u it was yams... even worse

  • Maybe it worth risk-taking? Maybe........

  • I am deeply moved and touched by your story Li. Your life is one of hope.

I will use you as an example for my own child and the children that I teach at school to guide and light their fire inside so that they too can move to the light like the 'frog" - and you..... THANK YOU

    Catherine

  • I am reading the book now and it's truly the best book I have read. A truly gifted and wonderful man. Thankyou Li for sharing your story.

  • saw the movie.. very moving.. i definitely cried at the end :(

  • Just saw Li speak yesterday...truely inspirational

  • I bought the book yesterday. I read the first couple of chapters on the train home. I was so captivated by it, I got home and couldn't put it down. 3.30 this morning, I finally finished it. I feel like crap having little sleep but it was sooo worth it. The best book I have ever read!! Thank you Li xxx

  • I read the book after I listened to him speak at the Brisbane Writers Fastival in 2008. I fell in love with the book, and became increasingly interested in Chairman Mao's and Communist views. Now, I am not a communist, but i just like the history of it. It also amazes me that so many people lived in such poverty just a few years ago. I saw the movie 2 days ago, and i thought that it was brilliant, with just a few things missing that were in the book. A deffinate must see!

  • Im not sure whether I want to see the movie. Is it as good as the book? Thanks xxx

  • The Movie was amazing. Full stop =)

  • i would say it s even better than the book. =)

  • i read the book

  • i watched the movie and it is a very good movie but it is kinda sad for him when he was growing up

  • such strong words.. very moving

  • i met him

  • he went and did a talk at my friends school, lol.
