  • your chain needs a sharpen.

  • @davh1231 yeah, this was at the end of a day of work, just had the chains sharpened by the local small engine shop, they're better at it than i am and it supports local jobs. eric GardenFork

  • Good video but I read that foot on the log is a no no. Informative nonetheless....

  • @tenzentura thx for the thought, i'll check that one out, eric.

  • very informing even though i will probably never own a chainsaw. nice dogs.

  • @avor nothing wrong with not owning a chain saw, thanks for watching! eric.

  • Have to point out that your kneeling position towards the end of your cut was what we call an illegal operating stance......you might want to think about that for next time.

  • @jonnythunder75 thanks for the heads up. i was not aware of that. eric.

  • I would warn you that several times your leg entered the cutting plane, something to be avoided. Also, an unbalanced position when you use your right foot to brace the log - the log should be secured and you have both feet under you, or it is unsafe.

  • @sholleran thank you for that. i will pay more attention to both those points from now on.

  • @sholleran thanks for that point too sir. eric.

  • I always get my saw chain sharpened by a Stihl dealer. Can you put up a video on how to do this yourself? Would save me a lot of time if I knew how!

  • @ivankinsman i'm not very good at the hand sharpening of the chain, the stihl dealer sells a hand file and a guide to do it by hand. thx, eric.

  • @erochow I cannot find the vid on how to shapen your lawn mower blade. ;(

  • Our ex-nanny was using a chainsaw recently and cut of three of her fingers so you definitely have to take basic precautions. I always wear gloves, keep aware of where the saw blade is, how I'm standing in relation to the tree/wood etc. The clothing you recommend is OK but a pain in the butt to put on each time. I just use gloves, normal boots, ear protectors and sometimes goggles...

  • @ivankinsman a few years ago i came close to cutting open my thigh with the chainsaw, because i had on the chainsaw chaps, i didn't rip open my leg. so now i wear them all the time.

  • Your bar is probably fine. Each time you have the chain sharpened, put the bar back on upside down. Helps to even out the wear and doubles the life of the bar. Only needs replacing if it's bent or chipped or heavily worn on one side.

  • @loki1200 thx for that info, good idea to turn the bar upside down. eric.

  • Now you need a video of splitting the logs, I used to use a single blade axe, later I found out my Uncle had a hydraulic wedge and much easier.

  • damn. he is so ready. i was cutting limbs up in bare feet, with nothing more than a pair of glasses on, last week. don't do this.

  • This is something I would never ever attempt myself! I know my limitations.

  • @SpookyElectric777 more people should think like you do. thx, eric.

  • If the village people are getting band back together you got a shot

  • @ericash28 i could grow sideburns for this...

  • OK There is nothing good I can say about the chaps, LOL Thank goodness they are for safety reasons. Houston we are ready for take off. I know what you can be for Halloween! I know safety is no laughing matter. Thank you so much for these great tips. Safety is always important. Hugs and Love ♥

  • @Tanyia48 i especially like the orange color!

  • @erochow Better to see you with my Dear, LOL

  • I cut down a tree and it fell on me. Luck I had my phone to call for help. I did follow the procedure but a wind gush blew it my way.
