Yea! 5 years ago I discovered the total awesomeness of the Teva sandal for wading and relieving my poor feet at the campsite. They are a must have and worth their weight in gold. Very much recommended!
Thanks for the great reviews from just another hiker.
Thank you so much for taking the time to produce these informative and entertaining videos! Your modest, 'not-the-expert-of-experts-but-this-is-what-works-for-me' approach inspires others to do their own research rather than rely entirely on the experience of another! Well done!

Caveat on that Gorilla tape: it will complete lose its adhesion if it get very cold. Ordinary duct tape won't. Found that out during winter astronomy.
Hey Nutnfancy, have you ever tried the NiMH Eneloop batteries from Sanyo? They're pretty expensive, but they hold their charge for a really long time and as a photographer they're the only batteries I use (mostly for my Flash gun).. Do you think they might be a better value compared to the Lithium batteries you use in your flashlight?
P.S: Your videos rock, I respect anyone who is as knowledgable as you are no matter what fields of expertise they work in..
telescopic fishing poles are the most compact poles they make. they arent as strong but still work...and you take your shoes off while sleeping?? i wouldnt unless they are wet.
Nutnfancy, I'm noticing your comments on extra weight and yet I see so many things are stored in nylon or such storage containers. I honestly feel you could save probably two to three lbs on your trips if you used freezer bags, then when you get back home, put them back in their storage container. Some you couldn't, yes, but many items you could save a lot of effort haulin' in the nylon. Something you might want to consider. Enjoying this series. Thanks.
The Diawa reels are pretty durable, I have 2 pack rods, one telescopic lite spinning rod that breaks down to about 7 inches, and a 7 piece fly rod which goes down to about a foot, both are very dependable and pack lite. Yes 2 complete outfits, but we all have our little perks that we must have along.
That Diawa outfit with the case appears to be cumbersome, I'd leave the case behind and use a small bungy to wrap the rod pieces and a small bag for the reel, same as I do with my fly outfit.

@Cloud8869 Like a horse? Learn to spell if you're going to use the internet as a medium to insult people. Otherwise, you just look like an idiot -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
from a distance would you shoot towards a thief possibly hitting them with that 25 if they are taking things from your camp sight that your life might depend on in your equipment I think I would if they actually started to leave my sight with my important gear. If they used it and sat there tell I got back I wouldnt. How about you?
I'd wear them in the sleeping bag that way your feet would stay warm and they'd be warm when you wake up. May not be the most comfortable but would work. The boot liners i mean.
Hey nutnfancy I went on Google earth and looked up your coordinates of your Airborne jump site, and well it looked to be in an old crater or possibly where a lake use to be, if you could share more that would be cool!
Oh and if anyone else looks it up it is the dense looking brown and black area if you type in the coordinates as i did!
i use a hyper light spinning rod, 4'6" 2 peice so i can strap it to my pack. take some really light weight line and tiny hooks, a jar of salmon eggs. get up stream, find a good looking lane and drop it in, line, hook, egg. catch a mess of em every time. has to be running water though
1. Consider using a bear canister or a Ursack for your food bag/bear bag. Lots of reasons why nowadays not to actually hang a bear bag. Park service recommends not hanging and use of canister (pending rec. for Ursack).
2. Look at Keen for camp/water shoes - they have several models which are as light as Teva's but provide some toe protection.
3. GPS? Im old school, I say nothing beats map and compass - classic orienteering is easy to learn and foolproof. Less weight, less can go wrong.
nutnfancy, you should bring Chlor-Floc on your next hiking trip. They're very effective and ultra light water purification tablets.(one tablet cleans a liter of water) They coagulate all the sediment to the bottom of the container and kill all the bacteria/parasites/viruses etc. The only downside is the directions say to then pour the water in another container with a cloth on the mouth to catch sediment. (I dont know if you HAVE to do that, you could just siphon the water off the top)
I have found a product that for me that replaced head lamps, its a little light with clips that attaches to one's hat, the brand that i have used is called cyclops there small lights with led's i highly recommend them. great vids finishing em up now lota great info thanks.
Per the sandals... I just baught a pair of vibram five finger shoes. I know they look funny as heck. But I love them. Perfect for forging rivers. And they add much much more protection than tevas. What are your opinion ?
Power Lumens: SureFire 6P with Malkoff M60 dropin (2x CR123)
My "common" battery standard is AA and I get amazing performance from the above lights. Headlamp has 3 output levels and is very compact, the NiteCore has a full ramping UI but getting max (1 hour) and min (40 hours) is easy and quick.
The SureFire is for defensive purposes and is built like a tank.
Another fishing option to check out is St. Croix's traveler 4 piece rods. Amazing quality, made in USA comes with a nylon-covered tube. At about $160 it doesn't kill you, pair it with a nice modest Shimano reel and you have a really high quality spinning outfit.
Should you hit a spot where you can land some fish, such gear really makes it a pleasure to be a fisherman.
I would recommend that if you take sandals for the water or around the camp site that you invest in a pair of keen closed toe sandals. I have a pair and take them paddling. They may not look the best but they are super comfortable and functional.
DEAD ON with the Gorilla Tape. All your reviews have been very helpfull and appreciated. Joby Gorillapod GoGo Flexible Tripod is a pretty cool accessory by the way. Thanks again for the reviews.
Diawa Mini-Spin. Have it n love it. Got it from LL Bean. Yeah, a tad heavy. But the case protects it well. Plus it has a small compartment for tackle. As for optics. I have mini binocs that one side broke on, so I cut them in half. (too frugal/cheap to replace them) now I love em. 1/2 the weight. For light I use a wind up LED again from Bean. Only casts light about 18 yards, but, no batteries. Lovin your vids!
Im learning a great deal just by listening carefully to all of your vids.
I do however am very interested in what your Sidekick- Allie the Moantain dog carries in her mobile bags.
I have dogs myself & would really like to involve them into taking them into the wild. (Only when they have the sufficient training and capabilities - of course, i mean they are like small kids)
