  • flip flops or sandals are great for slipping on for those midnight nature calls. loads better than trying to put on boots when you gotta go.

  • I didn't know Nutnfancy used duct tape.

  • I know you don't take everything you have displayed in this video. But of those things you do take, it's still an impressive and heavy load.

  • Is that a lantern attachment or are you just happy to see me?

  • (my 2 cents) maybe a pare of GOOD swim shoes instead of the sandles lighter mostly more comfortable, keep them coming we love what u do

  • Yea! 5 years ago I discovered the total awesomeness of the Teva sandal for wading and relieving my poor feet at the campsite. They are a must have and worth their weight in gold. Very much recommended!

Thanks for the great reviews from just another hiker.

  • Nutn i feel your pain on the cost of lithium batterys, because when i bought some for my fenix ld10 it cost like $15 for 2 batterys.

  • @JohnTheRipper723 Amazon, you really need to get some from there.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to produce these informative and entertaining videos! Your modest, 'not-the-expert-of-experts-but-this-is-what-works-for-me' approach inspires others to do their own research rather than rely entirely on the experience of another! Well done!

  • Those sandals are awesome!

  • Caveat on that Gorilla tape: it will complete lose its adhesion if it get very cold. Ordinary duct tape won't. Found that out during winter astronomy.

  • I was wondering. why doesn't Nutun respond to comments? Its always his sister? I love the videos i am just curious.

  • Hey Nutnfancy, have you ever tried the NiMH Eneloop batteries from Sanyo? They're pretty expensive, but they hold their charge for a really long time and as a photographer they're the only batteries I use (mostly for my Flash gun).. Do you think they might be a better value compared to the Lithium batteries you use in your flashlight?

P.S: Your videos rock, I respect anyone who is as knowledgable as you are no matter what fields of expertise they work in..

  • telescopic fishing poles are the most compact poles they make. they arent as strong but still work...and you take your shoes off while sleeping?? i wouldnt unless they are wet.

  • Nutnfancy, I'm noticing your comments on extra weight and yet I see so many things are stored in nylon or such storage containers. I honestly feel you could save probably two to three lbs on your trips if you used freezer bags, then when you get back home, put them back in their storage container. Some you couldn't, yes, but many items you could save a lot of effort haulin' in the nylon. Something you might want to consider. Enjoying this series. Thanks.

  • teva is probably an israeli brand. it means nature in hebrew.

  • The Diawa reels are pretty durable, I have 2 pack rods, one telescopic lite spinning rod that breaks down to about 7 inches, and a 7 piece fly rod which goes down to about a foot, both are very dependable and pack lite. Yes 2 complete outfits, but we all have our little perks that we must have along.

That Diawa outfit with the case appears to be cumbersome, I'd leave the case behind and use a small bungy to wrap the rod pieces and a small bag for the reel, same as I do with my fly outfit.

  • @Cloud8869 Like a horse? Learn to spell if you're going to use the internet as a medium to insult people. Otherwise, you just look like an idiot -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • im peticular about duct tape as well, and brigade quarter master is my favorite

  • I'm more of a traditionalist, map and compass man!

  • nice...good vids...

  • from a distance would you shoot towards a thief possibly hitting them with that 25 if they are taking things from your camp sight that your life might depend on in your equipment I think I would if they actually started to leave my sight with my important gear. If they used it and sat there tell I got back I wouldnt. How about you?

  • I'd wear them in the sleeping bag that way your feet would stay warm and they'd be warm when you wake up. May not be the most comfortable but would work. The boot liners i mean.

  • how the hell does that all fit? haha

  • Safe to say those shake/motion powered lights don't cut the mustard?

  • what happned when you said floor at 1:20

  • "I'm gonna go up to this portion of the floor"

  • Really enjoy all of your reviews, Very smart man. Very helpful. Keep up a good work.

  • 6:10 You have a guitar!?

  • whats a good bag for a overnight trip thats less than 100$?

  • u cud take a telescopic fishin rod

  • you can never go wrong with duct tape, but you have to remember that it is a smellable.

  • if you want a light weight fishing rod and reel i would get a fish pen

  • As far as sandals go, you could check out Vibrams "Five fingers", got mine around $75, very comfortable, very capable. Great vids!

  • those tihngs are fricking WEIRD are they rly good??!

  • Hey nutnfancy I went on Google earth and looked up your coordinates of your Airborne jump site, and well it looked to be in an old crater or possibly where a lake use to be, if you could share more that would be cool!

Oh and if anyone else looks it up it is the dense looking brown and black area if you type in the coordinates as i did!

    Great video like always!

  • i have the exact same headlamp!!lol

  • gorilla tape is amazing

  • do you have to fly fish to catch trout

  • no you can catch them with a hook and bober type set up in a river. just depends where you are

  • i use a hyper light spinning rod, 4'6" 2 peice so i can strap it to my pack. take some really light weight line and tiny hooks, a jar of salmon eggs. get up stream, find a good looking lane and drop it in, line, hook, egg. catch a mess of em every time. has to be running water though

  • That's what our Dad used. Salmon eggs and he got some nice trout with them. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • no you don't though I find it a lot more fun :D

  • they still sell those sorels at my local hiking/camping shop

  • i cant find the first aid kit

  • 1. Consider using a bear canister or a Ursack for your food bag/bear bag. Lots of reasons why nowadays not to actually hang a bear bag. Park service recommends not hanging and use of canister (pending rec. for Ursack).

    2. Look at Keen for camp/water shoes - they have several models which are as light as Teva's but provide some toe protection.

    3. GPS? Im old school, I say nothing beats map and compass - classic orienteering is easy to learn and foolproof. Less weight, less can go wrong.

  • have you thought of sailing booties rather than sandles for rafting? they'll keep your feet warmer, and they'll afford you much more protection

  • nutnfancy, you should bring Chlor-Floc on your next hiking trip. They're very effective and ultra light water purification tablets.(one tablet cleans a liter of water) They coagulate all the sediment to the bottom of the container and kill all the bacteria/parasites/viruses etc. The only downside is the directions say to then pour the water in another container with a cloth on the mouth to catch sediment. (I dont know if you HAVE to do that, you could just siphon the water off the top)

  • who woudnt bring a gps?

  • have you ever hike up at smugglers notch or the green mountains vt

  • I have found a product that for me that replaced head lamps, its a little light with clips that attaches to one's hat, the brand that i have used is called cyclops there small lights with led's i highly recommend them. great vids finishing em up now lota great info thanks.

  • TNP Rules!!!!

  • Great video. Nutnfancy is really organized and thinks ahead.

  • Per the sandals... I just baught a pair of vibram five finger shoes. I know they look funny as heck. But I love them. Perfect for forging rivers. And they add much much more protection than tevas. What are your opinion ?

  • i love those vibram five finger shoes they are funky but comfy. Also i like crocs cause they r durable but there downfall is not supporting. so...

  • Damn dude, I can not even imagine the amount of roughing it and camping you've done.

  • Have you had a look at Wiggy's brand mountaineering boots?

  • that is great tape! their glue works great to.

  • i use the pocket fishermen

  • lol Nice picture on 10:13

  • Comment removed

  • Do you oil your boots or just spray them with waterproof spray?

  • Would you consider the Fenix headband and just use the single Fenix L2D or L1D for a headlamp instead of both a headlamp and a flashlight?

  • Surefire too!

  • Ziess, Garmin, good stuff too have.

  • i use rechargabel baterys its a bit pricy but it is cheaper in the loung run

  • Nice bins, i have the Nikon premier LXLs

  • when your batteries start running out multiple times, you know your doing a lot of video lol

  • Some other nice lights to check out:

Head lamp: Zebralight H50-Q5 (Single AA)

    EDC: NiteCore D10 (Single AA)

Power Lumens: SureFire 6P with Malkoff M60 dropin (2x CR123)

My "common" battery standard is AA and I get amazing performance from the above lights. Headlamp has 3 output levels and is very compact, the NiteCore has a full ramping UI but getting max (1 hour) and min (40 hours) is easy and quick.

The SureFire is for defensive purposes and is built like a tank.

  • Another fishing option to check out is St. Croix's traveler 4 piece rods. Amazing quality, made in USA comes with a nylon-covered tube. At about $160 it doesn't kill you, pair it with a nice modest Shimano reel and you have a really high quality spinning outfit.

Should you hit a spot where you can land some fish, such gear really makes it a pleasure to be a fisherman.

  • 160 is aot of money

  • why did it say youtube on the top of the camera? I was wondering if i could use my camera to make videos.. but is it compatable?

  • I would recommend that if you take sandals for the water or around the camp site that you invest in a pair of keen closed toe sandals. I have a pair and take them paddling. They may not look the best but they are super comfortable and functional.

  • whats the burn time on the Fenix with lithium batteries?

  • A gps system with a compass for backup is a must for any thinking outdoors man.

  • DEAD ON with the Gorilla Tape. All your reviews have been very helpfull and appreciated. Joby Gorillapod GoGo Flexible Tripod is a pretty cool accessory by the way. Thanks again for the reviews.

  • Diawa Mini-Spin. Have it n love it. Got it from LL Bean. Yeah, a tad heavy. But the case protects it well. Plus it has a small compartment for tackle. As for optics. I have mini binocs that one side broke on, so I cut them in half. (too frugal/cheap to replace them) now I love em. 1/2 the weight. For light I use a wind up LED again from Bean. Only casts light about 18 yards, but, no batteries. Lovin your vids!

  • thank you sooo much!!!

  • Great video!, many thanks.

Im learning a great deal just by listening carefully to all of your vids.

I do however am very interested in what your Sidekick- Allie the Moantain dog carries in her mobile bags.

I have dogs myself & would really like to involve them into taking them into the wild. (Only when they have the sufficient training and capabilities - of course, i mean they are like small kids)

Bye ! keep on going with the series.

    Greetings from Holland.

  • tevas are the best

i had some better ones a few years back

    that i could hike in....

    i miss those...

  • I love these videos but for wait / space / ease of use you should seriously look into a telescopic fishing rod. I got one at wallmart for like 30 bucks

  • Due to your terrain types and vastness, the states are much more tuned to survival experience and such. We in europe, and especially I in Belgium have much more difficulties in finding good, reasonably priced items. I have done many comparisons and it sometimes comes to 3 times the price you guys pay for it. Also, many things you have a hard time finding or simply cannot get. So count your lucky stars with having this luxury there.

  • Yup, that's true, at least partially. Here in Poland you can get almost everything nutnfancy covered, same brands, same models, but finding a good deal is another issue. Haven't heard of gorilla duct tape, though.

  • I hate frozen boots in the morning.

  • i have found that candle lanterns are great.they also offer a minute amount of heat in winter conditions.

  • Oh, and I have the garmin GPSmap 60CSx and it's great! I use it for search and rescue mostly and it's amazing

  • You are right on with the gorilla duct tape. That stuff is super strong!

  • duct tape is good also for minor cuts you rup it around and it works. Sometimes the wound may heal too

  • Have you tried the survival tabs? ever considered carry some?

  • hey NF - EPIC series of vids here. This will go down in my book as THE reference on how to pack for an extended outdoor excursion. I feel kind of guilty leveraging all of your expertise without having had to go through the years of trial and error you went through to optimize your system.

Actually... scratch that ... not that guilty!

    :)

    5/5 stars.

    Superb series.

Thanks man.. your fan base loves this stuff!

  • can you tell us more about Allie the mountain dog and what she carries in her lil packs

  • If you ever want some help carrying that heavy-looking tripod on one of your hikes just gimme a call nutn. I think I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate greatly what you do. Keep the quality video coming!

  • yea its nice watching these videos in high quality and a full screen

  • Also with the sandals, after along day of hiking my feet swell and it would be nice to walk around camp without keeping the boots on. Good Idea man!! Your camera is great, it nice watching these vids in full screen without it being too blurry. *****

  • great stuff !

i love the fenix l2d its amazing

    awesome review tnx
