Some good instruction, but IMO, the hands are too far apart. Its much safer and easier to lift heavy weight if the hands are as close to the shoulders as possible on the bar. That way, u are more compact and have a far better "shelf" to rest the bar on. P.S. ... I have never seen anybody look more awkward doing squats as that kid was even with no weight on the bar. The guy sort of knows what he is talking about but not completely.
@dagerousdave "The guy sort of knows what he is talking about but not completely." Are you serious? Do you know who Dave Tate is?! He knows EXACTLY what he is talking about. GTFO.
@TheSilverDolfin Dave Tate knows how to squat, period. The kid doesn't have a perfect form but he is a beginner, no one will have it down perfect in a few tries. Just because you don't want to learn the "PL" style of squatting doesn't mean it's bad. I'm so tired of people putting Rippetoe on a pedestal and saying that everyone that is not teaching exactly the same thing as him is teaching a bad squat. Your the ignorant one who only can see Ripppetoes style of squatting as the only correct way.
@JPlevell, a flat bench can work but a lot of the time it's not at the correct height. If you're just an inch or two off try taking a 25lb plate and setting it on the bench for added height, if the bench is too high grab some rubber matting and place it in front of the bench to elevate yourself. Another option is using those stackable plyometric steps, just make sure they're strong enough to support you and are facing long ways out for stability
I find when I am squating 70-80% of my 1RM that my ass pivots and turns under my back slightly. What can I do to stop this? I'm guessing its either my abs or lower back that are weak.. or maybe both.
Excellent squat instruction from a master, and the idiotic comments elevating a former Crossfitter over Dave Tate do nothing to change that.

I know why most of videos have the "disabled comments" Too many keyboard Cowboys hating instead of training
