  • Unbelivable... 70 years

  • She is cute but that voice well let's say money up front.

  • I'm still baffled how we went from This to David Lee Roth 50 years later.

  • Great! Romantic Karaoke in the 30s! Lovely singer too

  • cigar...cigarette...cigar...cigarette...EDDIE VALLIANT!

  • 7:51 -A good WTF moment.*

  • 7:29 - jiggilo Cat. lol.*

  • i started out with the village ppl and ended here, i'm a happy man.

  • in Barcelona was famous with the voice of Nitta Jo and Andree Turcy heroines de la chanson realiste

  • Sounds a bit like like Eartha Kitt...

  • This is wonderful!

  • "AS LIFE GOES ON WITH OUT ME....." That is soo true in life. It does not matter what People think, life goes on.

  • She really sells that song - what a performer. Just little things but they all add up to a real performance. Wonderful!

  • Marilyn, I swear to fucking GOD! That you are & always will be the most beautifulest woman and most graceful woman to ever walk this earth. Their hasn't been a woman of your beauty since you. <3 How could disagree with me about this angel? NO ONE!

  • I just wonder, (In cartoon world that is) How many miles of Dick, she had put in her, Just wondering. And it is all the mans fault . Nope I would not fuck her if I was a Toon. But she could jerk me off. hahah

  • Ooooops!! Heeeeey!

    LOL

  • 7:42 HOLY $#!+ Kitty Gang Rape!

  • one cigar for 10 cent and twofor 25 cent ? lol a little bit of a rip off no ?

  • Bordoni had something of a hit in her early talkie feature "Paris" (1929,( a lost fim, sadly....) And so her inclusion in this short, at the time, would have been considererd a treat, to the audiences of the time... I always thought her voice was was quite engaging, actually... She was quite the thing at the time...

  • Oooh..i like

  • HASTA LOS DIBUJOS ANIMADOS DE ESA EPOCA ERAN INCREIBLEMENTE ATRACTIVOS.............LOS ADOROOOOO.........TODA ESA EPOCA LA ADORO.......

  • Viva la boop! love love love betty boop

  • Irene was a very good singer. And I like that ass sniffing cats in the end...the end

  • cute and ms. Bordoni was also a star in her own right back then!

  • betty boop was real??

  • lools "bouncy balls"? i love irene's voice and accent. wow hot ^_- wish i was there...

  • i luv betty boops tiny feet :D

  • Marvellous.

  • What's With The Cats At 7:09? I Thought The Whole Cartoon Took Place At That Night Club With BETTY BOOP.

  • I love this cartoon. The sequence between 7:10 and 7:28 is briliiant. The essence of early Fleischer cartoon, and you'd only find something like that in a Fleischer.

  • I thougt the lady who did the voice of Betty Boop would be singing this. Not sure where Boop is....didn't bother to see all of it.

  • This is so entertaining, the voice of a confident USA,untroubled by all the modern bullshit.

  • Max Fleischer was the Seth McFarlane of the 1930s!

I always loved Betty Boop! Growing up in Italy and being a child in the 1970s, the Italian TV was showing Betty Boop cartoons and, even if it was originally made in the 1930s, I always found it fascinating and educational, as if I was learning a piece of history. I always wanted to invent a time machine to go back to the 1930s and 1940s. i love that time period, which is also why I love the Squirrel Nut Zippers! :-)

  • @vampiroangelico Giusto! Anche i Popeye in lingua originale senza traduzione erano forti!

  • @vampiroangelico esatto proprio Fleisher.

  • Hot horns

  • Gotta love a cartoon with attitude! People need to sing along more, too.

  • I would describe this video as Trippy!

  • Beautiful example of period art, both animation, live film, and overlay editing. In context, cutting edge technology and a reflection of the historical times.

  • Check out my channel for the 1st ever Popeye cartoon - featuring Betty Boop. Simply click on the link.

  • did anyone notice the racial stereotping at 3;00 ( scots are tight). No PC back then!

  • grandma wasn't even born back then!! that doesn't change the fact that i enjoy this!! haha.

  • Pig!!

    That's MR. Pig to you!

  • The Famous Bouncing Ball. Pioneers.

  • No matter how many new versions of stream-of-consciousness and quick change of context non sequitur humor come along, Max Fleischer's cartoons never seem dated.

  • Love it! :D To be honest, I didn't know karaoke existed for so long.

  • The poster of this video is ugly and in no way does he own fifteen rabbits. I bet he has never even seen fifteen rabbits in his whole life, You lieing sack of crap. BTW nice video....

  • Great cartoon. And with Karaoke included. Thanks for upload it.

  • It sounds like the french singer Damia.

  • every time I see it, I love it.

  • Great old classic

  • It's the first time I hear this wonderful song!

  • It is a very old song. They played it at my friends wedding, cause he married a gal with money

  • Great cartoon - thanks so much for posting :) Wish they still made them like this, I wouldn't mind watching...

  • LOL i saw you singing along. not bad.

  • ahahhaha play 7:07 over and over again xD

  • just a gigolo is the name of the cartoon film ?

  • WONDERFUL !!!!!!! Thanks for posting

  • do you know what is the name of the cartoon ?

  • i think your right...but frugal? More like cheap for a 5 cent soda

  • Irene Bordoni was so popular back then, that her hairstyle ("the Bordoni Bob") was copied by many women.

  • It was the Depression. EVERYONE would get one bottle & 3 straws!

  • WAUW, this makes me happy..this should be emenate on tv again!

  • a breath of fresh air. Brilliant.

  • I wonder if it's a bad idea to be watching these types of bizarre cartoons right before I'm off to bed?

  • I would think not.

  • It's preposterous and silly and also magnificently and wonderfully artistic, so children can in fact learn that their own silliness is not without value; what it isn't is bestially, horribly stupid as is our standard network fare (all exceptions noted). It takes what's vulgar in human nature and renders it innocent, as opposed to, say, American Idol, which renders everything vulgar!

  • Whoa, a rare intelligent observation on YouTube!!

Thanks PrinceAndy and HelenAwaits (comment prior).

  • How is this offensive? These were meant to play before movies like "It Happened One Night", which may seem like films made for adults, but hardly on par with the sexy violent fart humor that prevails in today's media. I thought it was beautiful.

  • You know, I find it interesting and mind-boggling that people on here get upset about the messages in animations from long ago, when it is perfectly acceptable to watch The Simpsons, South Park et al on prime time TV. It's only entertainment and was not meant to be offensive back then - just funny. These days, cartoons are deliberately blatant about what they have to say and nobody turns a hair.

  • Not for children - these were made for everybody. Back then, people didn't freak out about cartoons ruining their precious childrens' minds like they do now.

  • @Hookedoncollies because people actually parented their kids.

  • Viva la Bordoni. Just a Gigolo, what a great song. The frenchy version is not that bad, the song evokes more the nostalgic of the memories of youth than in the Prima's. Funny, at 0:25 she didn't sing: corpz' et âme. 1932, reeespect!!!!!!!!! Madame la Bordoni your accent is nice and sweet.

  • Oh my, that's awesome!

  • classics... best shows ever lol

  • lol

  • Je l'aime trop...mon gigolo!

  • Very funny the part with the three Scotsmen and also the "gigolo cat"! Thanks.

  • you mean David Lee Roth didnt write that?

  • No, this song dates back to the 30s.

  • the very first karaoke!

  • irene is french!! and this is the best one of them all

  • in English, she sings in a way that Ethel Merman adopted later in her career.

  • who?

  • the only word I understood was cilentro.. what is she singing in Polish ?

  • This owns. Well done!

  • j'adore cette chanson. Bellissima. Oh mon gigolooooo

  • 1:30 fits in the "America - land of the free" *schuckles*

  • Perdón, Angelicalfenix,no usaban micrófono?

    Qué utilizaban entonces? Estoy intrigada.

  • While microphones were used differently and more seldomly then, they were still the mechanism used to capture sound. It is incorrect to say that microphones were not used.

  • A great timepiece. Musically, visually, in every way.

  • boop rules

  • agreed.

  • @kalindoscopy what rules mean???

  • Did she just sing "If you got any balls let ,me hear you make some noise at about 5:00!" This shows even with a crappy tv budget Betty Boop is still one edgiest, surreal, most submerged cartoons of all time. Thanks for posting this!

  • voice left

  • it was "if you got any voice, let me hear you make some noise" it was her french accent that made it sound like "balls" haha!

  • LET ME HEAR YOU MAKE SOME NOISE

  • excelent!!! :)

  • I'm disappointed that this "U.M & M." TV print [from 1955] omitted Dave Fleischer's credit as director, as well as the two animators who worked on this {originally, at 7:58, the Paramount logo was superimposed over Irene Bodoni's face to end the film}- Ms. Bodoni was very popular on radio at the time, and she was under contract to Paramount, where Max Fleischer got most of his "live" talent for these "Screen Songs". Mae Questel is, of course, Betty's voice.

  • I ABSOLUTLY LOVE IT

    GREAT

  • Was Betty Boop supposed to resemble Clara Bow, the "it" girl?

  • No, she's Helen Kane.

By a Waterfall was owned by Warner Bros., so it won't be in a Screen Song, as they used songs for which Paramount had the rights.

The Fleischer versions are fun and show lots of imagination.

  • Wow, a bouncing ball sing a long cartoon!!!

I will check back later. Where can I finfd more bouncing ball cartoons? Also how do you find cartoons that have 1933 songs like" By a waterfall"?

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!

  • freaky cartoon and brilliant song.

  • that was nice- never seen b4- cute :)

  • Betty Boop is such a Babe!

    Follow zee bounsinga balla pleaszze!

Quite a life's lesson in the lyrics...

    Life goes on without me?!

Gilligan's Island is ON whether I watch it or not?

And the RAIN, on that plain down in Spain, even THAT goes on without me?!....gasp!

Sorry...Merci for the très bien post.

  • In spite of the rather shallow comments and in-the-dark postings from people, I truly appreciate the animation, weird as it is and the glimpse into music history. Dumb comments like "this song fucking sucks" just embarrass me, not because of the song, but because of the limited thought behind the posting. How sad. In the meantime, people interested in animation, music, history and fashion will appreciate this odd little gem.

  • mmmmm yes. :)

  • Wow, I'm really not used to hearing that song in such a different cadence. I'm more used to Louis Prima's version. Good perspective on the history of music though. Thanks for that!

    - T3

  • :) my pleasure.

  • In "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", Betty Boop was also selling cigars. Nice cat fight at the end. LOL.

  • This version is alright. It's just shame that they ripped off David Lee Roth.

  • lots of people we're ripping him off in those days

  • Um, David Lee Roth was about 50th in line to sing this song-he did it well though!

  • Sinzirarenai! Applause!

  • fantastic clip . i love irene bordoni.would have loved to have see her in paris in the 1930's great thanks

  • why so much vibratto?

  • I like Louis Prima's version better!

  • you guys should be my real life friends cause you don't like this song. then i'll piss on you.

  • omg she did that first selling cigars ..well betty from the flinstones copyed and willma the weasel aka freds wife lol

  • You guys should all be my real life friends for liking this song/video.

  • SSHH, you're tired h0b. Go to bed.

    - T3

  • Whoa! Is this guy insane, or just so illiterate it passes for psychosis?

What infernal gibberish, sir! You should be ashamed of yourself; and the sad thing is, you probably are!

  • Hi, Ian. <3

  • I thought it was a Louis Prima song.

  • me too,i had NO idea this song was so old. this is like my gramdma's era.

  • Yes, a little history....

  • Sooooo, David Lee Roth stole this song huh? I wonder how old the song really is.

  • Awesome!

  • Fantastic!
