Je conteste un peu le procédé qui consiste à mettre ensemble un son et une image qui ne correspondent pas, mais cette note est spectaculaire. A Orange, en 84, elle ne se risquait plus à cela, mais la représentation avec une distribution incroyable était bouleversante. Rien qu'à revoir les images du salut final les larmes me reviennent.

Che cosa bislacca: le immagini da Orange, l'audio dal Met...una bella differenza. Corelli sopra le righe, la Caballè degli anni d'oro spara un si naturale acuto che dura mezz'ora, sarà pure bello ma è una nota assurda che copre la ripresa del tema dell'Imperatore. Insomma, puro teatro (invecchiato)...

@ofiammasoave You´re right. Nothing to do with Art or respect to the composer. But Caballe was like this and her fans were like that: poor Verdi or Bellini or whoever. Let´s ´steal´ the performance (ANY soprano can do that, just take a long breath and that´s it: but... nobody is allowed!!!), it doesn´t matter: Public accepts everything. Bread and Circus.

Caballé's 15 seconds lasting Bb is the best thing about this opera and its stupid plot: King Phillip II portrayed as a villain, Elisabeth and Charles in an incestuous flirt, and ¿what does Ana De Mendoza/Eboli princess has to do with all this mess? Ah! and the original Inquisition theme thrown in the mix. Such a travesty of an opera!

If Verdi degradates Spanish history, no Spaniard will respect him.

@ofiammasoave El Si bemol de Caballé es lo mejor de toda la ópera, que tiene un argumento que es una mamarrachez: Felipe II rebajado al mismo nivel de villanía que Hitler o Erzébet Báthory; Isabel De Valois y el príncipe Carlos en un coqueteo incestuoso; el socorrido tema de la Inquisición de por medio...¡qué estupidez! Para colmo Corelli se portó como un hijo de puta con Caballé, y ¿por qué no iba ella a dejar claro quien era la reina?
