This might also work (re: bedtime): I never had a bedtime when I was little. My parents let me crawl around and later (when I was older) read until I passed out in bed. That way, I was able to fall asleep just fine and not bother my parents. Also, my parents did not stay downstairs and watch t.v. while I had to sleep. To the child's mind, that's unfair and almost scary seeing as you are alone in a dark room. So, they just went to bed when we went to bed.
@BurntIceSlushie i think it's perfect fine that e parents finally have time for themselves and watch tv after all e hard work on their kids. it's only fair.
@Kilonoid Locking a child in a room is considered child neglect. MORON. It's about safety. If there's a fire or something they won't be able to get out. It doesn't even matter if the chances are low, it's still unsafe.
At 4:01 it reminds me when the beast says" This castle is your home now, so you can go anywhere you like, except the West Wing. And then Belle says" What's in the West...? Beast:{firmly} IT'S FORBIDDEN!!!!!
its great they have shows like this. whoever came up with it UR AN ABSOLUTE GENIUS! :) i plan to use some of these techniques if i have horrendous children.
@nintendaholic I received a lot of beatings as a kid, and all it taught me was to hate and fear my parents. I don't think anyone should beat his kids EVER.
there is a big differ between spanking & beating. spanking works when used correctly and itz not abuse. only thing is that u shud never spank in anger. this is the problem with raisin kids in u.s. u sud come 2 my country (Singapore) & see how well behaved kids r here & how respectful they r towards everyone. i have 6 kids & i rarely have 2 spank them as they know the consequences & i only have 2 remind them (by showing the belt). i have never left any bruises/ permanent marks from a spanking.
@vijay9509 If you see it like that, I was never really beaten. I used to receive hits in the head and "behind", but never with a belt. Nonetheless, it made me feel as if my parents did not love me. I am not saying that your children won't obey if you lose violence, but they'll develop a disturbed relationship with you. Children should not be treated like inferior creatures. They are humans like everyone else. You wouldn't go use a belt on an adult, would you?
@1029blue look, I understand a lot of people feel as you do but I disagree. I was hit by my parents when I did something very wrong, and it didn't make me feel like they didn't love me and whatnot. They explained to me what I did was wrong and why they were punishing me. I understood and I didn't do those things again.
@vijay9509 you are a wonderful warm and caring person and a great parent i can tell i have that gift..God bless you.!!!! you make the world a better place and your children will grow up and continue your good works .....love you!!!! lets have lunch
@Nine00 They don't understand yet. It's part of being taught. When the parent of a hearing child who is too young to read or speak reads to them, it isn't because they expect them to know what they're hearing; they expect them to learn.
They have a camera in their kids' bedroom? Yes, you want them to sleep and not run around. But teaching them privacy is important, too! Nobody should be observable at all time.
Okay, What if your baby was quietly sleeping in bed, you too. then someone breaks in there room and kills them. no camera there, no proof that YOU didnt kill her. see what I mean? thats not exactly what its for. but its just protection.
Yeah, I see your point. But honestly, I think that's a rather unlikely scenario. And I'd much rather invest in a good alarm system that prevents said break-in than in a camera that prevents me being accused. But I totally see what you mean, and I am aware that not everyone has the privilege of living in a peaceful area.
It's not known if the camera was simply for the show (to help Jo teach the parents the bedtime routine). If it was added on a permanent basis remember that the parents are deaf so this is the only way they can find out what is happening in the room (outside of going in there, which disrupts the routine).
You're totally right, of course! I can't believe I didn't think of that! I was misled by Jo saying that the new monitors will help them to stay in charge. But of course that doesn't mean it's forever. I feel embarrassed - apparently I am one of these people who believe everything they see on TV ;-).
but they're deaf they need to be able to see what's going on in their young chlidren's room...maybe when the kids are older the cameras will be removed but right now it's necessary
True, but they also need to learn that earning their privacy stems from trust. If they cannot follow directions why should they be trusted and given that right? They haven't earned it.
@elfzilla I use them with my 18 month old and they help soooo much. she goes to bed on her own, she sleeps all night, she's happy, she loves me and listens to me and we have the best relationship ever and i know, because of a lot of these tips, we'll always have a great mother daughter relationship.
@elfzilla I'm using the bedtime technique. It rocks! I've used it before when baby sitting my cousins, and it worked during the third time when I didn't say anything, glared at them (one of my own moves), and took them back to bed. I was so damn happy I jumped around when I went back home. LOL.
They should tell the children the story of the boy who cried wolf. There WILL be times when children really ca't sleep as they've had a bad dream or they feel ill.
So if refuse to go to bed every night, when they really do their mum and dad and can't go to bed, their parents wont listen and it'll serve them right.
In a way I agree with you, but you can really tell the difference between a child who just wants some more attention before bedtime and when they're sick/scared from bad dreams.
No I'm not stupid. There is no point in calling me stupid. Yes, my volume was broken. But it was up to 15. I could barely hear it. So I restarted my computer, listened to it over, and it's back. First of all it was just a question. You don't need to be so ignorant , we could just stop this by you saying ' No they were deaf when they were little'. See, No ignorance. Now why can't you just be nice and stop calling people stupid. If I was someone who was a little ill, you'd be a rotten person.
Because if you're deaf, you can't hear what people would be saying to you, so that means that they can't pronounce words or even the basic sounds of words, so they have to rely on sign language or some other form of non-verbal communication.
