Since they now have a BOSS 302. Wouldn't it be nice for them to make us a BOSS 351 in the new body style with this motor and the new TVic set up? It would make about 505 HP N/A at the same power per cubic inch.
I read an article in Motortrend a few years back where they tested a Mustang fitted with a 5.8L V10 called the Boss 351 (it was a 4.6L V8 with two extra cylinders). Ford was considering using the engine in the GT but went with an all aluminum 5.4 V8 instead. They never finished debugging the PCM so it was prone to stalling. Since they mentioned this engine came from a concept (not a prototype or mule) it's possible this was the 427 (7L) V10 from the 2003 concept of the same name.
Wow a v10 in a mustang that's bad ass. But I wonder if it's the 2 valve or the 3 valve. I currently own a f 250 super duty v10. The sound this engine makes is so damn unique. I've driven v8 Chevys with flowmasters. But I'd have to say that v10 sounds far superior. It's almost like a Lamborghini sound, it's really hard to explain. The mpg does suck but it's still real reliable for heavy towing and it can get up and go. It's all around perfect for a gas engine and I highly recommend!
sounds like a v10 through and through. he's not giving it the berries like you would hear on a lambo or an m5 but the engine configuration is remarkably similar, 90 degree, quad cam, so with a good exhaust tune this should sound as good or better than an m5 stroker. put this a daytona revival and you got another classic just like the gt ford!
i figured this would sound like a viper or a triton v10 used in the superduties, but this thing actually sounded like a high revving v8. too bad ford never produced this mustang.
@TreySpooner yes sir. a guy i work with has 1 thats jacked up and its a bad ass truck cept he dont like the 7-9 mpg he gets with it so hes gonna do a cummins swap
The guy at the bottom is right. They are building a twin-turbo v6 it's going in the new Taurus sho and a merc and rumored to be optional in the mustang gt down the road
also the 5.8L V10 was created by some upset ford engineers. they made the motor from 2 cobra/mach 1 blocks they kept one block and cut the other in half and grafted the two other cylinders onto the other block giving the DOHC 32V 281ci V8 a displacement of 350.9ci and they called it the 5.8 it's cc'c are 5.751. very close to a 5.8. hope i helped everyone. later guys
oh btw, i just looked at an old issue of 5.0 magazine and the cover car is the BOSS 351ci V10 wich happens to be this mustang! here are the specs on this car- 5.8L 351ci DOHC V10, 430hp, 405tq, 0-60 in 4.4, 0-100 in 10.3. 1/4 mile 12.88 @ 114.44mph. it has a T-56 6 speed and weighs 3,565lbs as tested. hope that helps everyone out and to stop all the bullcrap argueing about the motor! -Grant
actually you are wrong, if you studied this car and listened to what they said the motor was pulled from another concept car. not a truck also this motor is only a 351ci 5.8L V10 not the 6.8L 410ci V10 from the F series. this motor is definetly from the shelby cobra concept
dude the motor has 10 cylinders.....they said the cubic inches were exactly 351ci so therefor it makes it a 5.8L, if someone built a V6 that was 281ci it would be a 4.6L V6. ford has a 300ci 4.9L inline 6 motor ford also has a 5.0L 302ci V8..........you look like a damn idiot now man. how are you gonna say there is no 5.8L V10? when there clearly is!
it came out of the interceptor.. but that stang never went into production .. i hate V-10's in muscle cars... i like em in tracks and super cars.. i like my muscle with V=8s
IIRC Ford is still using cast iron blocks as standard equipment for the mustang 4.6 and to move the v10 from the superduty would cost less than the Al DOHC. If they offered it as a factory option, there is no reason for it to cost more than 15k over base if its a performance package with suspension and brakes, and another 5k max if the v10 is aluminum like this one.
Say 30 for the mustang, 20 for sport package. They would make serious money if they did that.
oh damn I completely forgot about the v10 in their trucks... I wonder if it would be light enough and powerful enough to be able to be put in a mustang and whoop some ass...
sounds exciting!
but im REALLY excited for the rumored (yeah I know how rumors go) but still, its rumored there gonna have a 300hp twin turbo v6... that would be absolutely orgasmic.
verses a cast Iron 4.6 with DOHC mach1/cobra heads there shouldn't be too much weight difference. and I wanna say that the newer 3v heads on the v10 are aluminum and have enough material removed to make it light enough to compete with a cast iron 4.6 with DOHC.
But don't hold me too that.
The v10 makes a fun car out of crown vics and some people believe they handle the stress of forced induction better than aluminum v8's.
I read something in Motor Trend a long time ago about this...it was planned for the GT40 revival or a future Cobra but never saw the light of day, sadly.
Since they now have a BOSS 302. Wouldn't it be nice for them to make us a BOSS 351 in the new body style with this motor and the new TVic set up? It would make about 505 HP N/A at the same power per cubic inch.

@pirochip thats cuz its a v10, just like the lambo lol. the key to the lambo sound is the muffler, not the engine.

@modeyus1984 It's a 4 valve. It has extended Cobra heads. Uses common Cobra rods/pistons.

shit it would be nice if ford started making a v10 motor a opiton in the mustangs

itd cost too much. remember the viper has a v10 aswell. so the mustang would be priced in the 100's to compete, which is too much IMO

I don't see why it would cost that much.
