we came back from 3 weeks Portugal : Porto, Coimbra, Lisboa and lots of FADO.
Love this video.I`m Dutch but never saw this on TV. Maria da Fe celebrated her 50 years artists jubilee a few years ago. She will be performing at the Great Night of Fado at De Doelen in Rotterdam on September 17th
19.30 hrs is correct, it was one of the best in a series of rather touristical promotionial video's. I kept it because of the excellent Maria da Fé fado's and villagers singing Portugese folksongs.
@ReneScheffer You could have visited the Fado evening in Rt (17 sept 2011) where Maria da Fé, Raquel Tavares, Ana Sofia Varela and Beatriz de Conceicao sang for 1,5 hours, "Até que a voze me doa" included. Surprisingly Maria even after more than 50 years of singing was the most enthousiastic of all. She moved and silently spoke the lyrics of the other singers when they held the stage. Ana Sofia came second in drama and Raquel third. I felt dat Beatriz had lost the fire Maria keeps all her life!
Até que a voz me doa (Until my voice hurts) I'll sing until my voice hurts To sing, always sing my Fado (destiny) Like the bird who flies so high And is free to sing anywhere I'll sing until my voice hurts To my country, to my land, to my people To nostalgia and sadness that hurts The love of the one who loves and dies absent I'll sing until my voice hurts To love, to peace full of hope To the smile and joy of the child I'll sing until my voice hurts
Well, I'm glad to be of assistance here. Of course I looked for your line in Portuguese in the Dutch undertitles for better understanding. I deeply regret not mastering Portuguese and my Spanish is very limited as well. But one consolation remains: Fado's do not need exact understanding of words, the feelings always come across anyhow.
Who knows!?! LOL the think with music, words, language and poetry. Sometimes it just seems so much more moving when said differently or in a different language... Portuguese isn't all that tough. And even though it is one of my mother tongues I lost a bit growing up and continue to teach myself. (Mostly thrugh music as it is a medium that I can relate to). I'll have you know, I probably do have flemish descent... That had a very large influence on my regional culture, and the accent I speak
I grew up listening to Maria da Fe. My favorite fado that she sings is Lencoes de palha. I agree with an earlier comment, I consider her, after Amalia Rodgrigues, one of the greatest modern fadistas.
You're right, her voice is incredible and deeply moving. This video of mine is the most visited of all my own reproductions. Pity I haven't got more videomaterial of her on tape.
Dobrigado for your comment! I cannot write portuguese... but I can understand almost everything, porque hablo un poquito espanol y italiano (y muchos mas de frances)! Saludos, Don

Thanks for the translation, I never new the title fully (thought it meant to sing until you can no more, or until my voice gives up on me..)
Fine service from Portuguese fans (of which there seem to be many!) :-D on

I've been looking for "O Teu Nome Meu Amor" for a while on YOUTUBE since a previous link went dead. Muito obrigadinho para ter compartido conosco!
... O teu nome... Meu amor... é um rio no coração que se agite no corrente! :)
